Priscilla J. Leach
9/15/1925 - 8/26/2010

Priscilla J. (St. Onge) Leach, 84, of Lyndonville, died Thursday morning August 26, 2010 at The Pines Rehabilitation and Health Ctr. in Lyndon.

She was born September 15, 1925 in Orleans, the daughter of Lee and Florence (Hardie) St. Onge.

In 1943 she graduated from Lyndon Institute. During World War II, she worked as a “Rosie the riveter” in the Boston ship Yards.

Priscilla attended college in Boston at the Wilson School of Medicine receiving and Associates Degree in 1953. She then began a career as an X-Ray and Lab. Technician for Brightlook Hospital, St. Johnsbury Hospital, and Northeastern VT Regional Hospital all of St. Johnsbury for more than twenty-two years. She had also worked as a Lab. Technician for Dr. Johnston and Dr. Abadi for many years.

On July 28, 1963 she married Durwood Leach.

Survivors include her two daughters, Carol Smith and husband Howard of Milton, and Rosemary “Posie” Jardine and husband David of Tunnel Hill, GA; three step children, Mark Leach and wife Shirl of Wakefield, RI, John Dwight Leach of Lafayette, LA, and Rick Leach and wife Christine of Waukesha, WI; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; her in-laws, Pat Leach of Barton, Millie McCuin of New York, and Kenneth Deuso of N. Hyde Park; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Durwood in 2008; her parents; and an infant sister, Virginia St. Onge.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 31 at 2:00 PM at the Guibord Funeral Home with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. Burial will follow in Lyndon Center cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

Leola "Lee" Fortier
2/6/1932 - 8/30/2010

Leola M. “Lee” Fortier, 78, of St. Johnsbury Center, died peacefully Monday morning August 30, 2010 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 6, 1932 in Hardwick, the daughter of Carl and Daisy (Downing) Loura. Lee graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1950. On June 16, 1950 she married Wallace Fortier.

Lee worked as a switchboard operator for Brightlook Hospital until its closing, NVRH, both of St. Johnsbury, North Country Hospital in Newport, and St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center totaling over thirty years. She was a member of the St. Johnsbury Woman’s Club, and was a Lady Shriner of Mt. Sinai Temple #3 of Montpelier. She enjoyed her every afternoon coffee with her dear friends.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, Lee also enjoyed music and was an amazing honky-tonk piano player. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Wally Fortier of St. Johnsbury Center; three children, Michael Fortier and companion Lisa Briggs of St. Johnsbury, Sandra Mercier and husband Philip of Hardwick and Maryland, and Cinthia Wheeler and husband David of St. Johnsbury; six grandchildren, Michael Jr., Sheri Lyn, Katrina, Daniel, Nathan, and Nicholas; two great grandchildren, Natalie Rose, and Eian Shamus; a sister, Beverly Phelps and husband Edward of Hardwick; and her afternoon coffee group.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Jack Loura; and a sister, Thelma Barnes.

Funeral services will be held in Lyndonville, Thursday September 2 at 2:00 PM at the Guibord Funeral Home with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary cemetery in St. Johnsbury.

Friends may call on the family Wednesday evening from 6-8 at the Funeral Home.

Virginia C. Wood
3/15/1925 - 8/31/2010

Virginia C. (McNally) Wood, of South Kirby, died at her home early Tuesday morning August 31, 2010 surrounded by her family, at the age of 85.

She was born March 15, 1925 in East Burke, VT, the daughter of Edmund and Edith (Farmer) McNally. She was a graduate of Lyndon Institute’s class of 1942. On February 17, 1945 she married Paul Wood, uniting North and South Kirby.

Virginia was the Kirby Town Clerk for twenty-five years. She and her husband and family also operated Kinship Farm in South Kirby. Ginny was the owner of Boot’s & Jean’s clothing apparel in East St. Johnsbury, was a licensed Real Estate agent, did bookkeeping for Don’s Wayside Furniture and Rod’s Used Cars in East St. Johnsbury for many years. She was a member of Eastern Star where she filled all officer seats over the years. She was a member of the Moose club of St. Johnsbury and filled many officer seats there as well, and was a charter leader of the S. K. Hilltoppers 4-H Club for a generation of farm youth.

Ginny enjoyed dancing with her husband Paul, and traveling on many bus tours with Nora and Al. She was a devoted mother, who supported her children’s dreams, and was devoted to her community.

Survivors include her two children, Mary Kay Wood and her companion Priscilla Hutchins of South Kirby, and Dennis Wood of South Kirby; three grandchildren, Michael Paul Wood, Scott William Wood, and Zeda Wolf; two great grandchildren, Kelton Wood and Connor Griffin; a sister, Jean McNally of Naples, FL; a sister in-law, Ruth McNally of Lyndonville; one nephew; three nieces; her companion/caregiver, Monica Smith; and her feline companion, Shadow.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Paul in 1994; her brother Robert McNally in 1981; and her sister, Elizabeth “Boots” McNally in 2007.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 4 at 11:00 AM at the Third Congregational Church in East St. Johnsbury with the Rev. Ann Hockridge officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant cemetery in St. Johnsbury.

Friends may call on the family Friday evening Sept. 3 from 6-8 PM at the Guibord Funeral Home.

Audrey A. Sheldon
8/14/1963 - 9/4/2010

Audrey A. Sheldon of Concord passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 with her family next to her.

She was born in Lancaster, New Hampshire on Aug. 14, 1963, the daughter of Janet Redmond. She was raised by her mother and her ‘Dad’, Denis LaMadeleine. Audrey earned her degree in human services from CCV.

Audrey’s health forced her to recently retire as the Postmaster at The Concord Post Office where she had served for the past five years. She prided herself in being proficient in the job she loved; she took the time and made it part of her job to know everybody’s first name who came into the post office.

She is survived by her husband Rodger Sheldon PO Box 241, Concord, VT 05824); three children: Jessica Tanner of St. Johnsbury, John Whitehill and Janet Gray of Waterford, Michael King of Concord; two grandchildren: Connor Whitehill and Gavin Tanner; her mother Janet Holt and husband John Holt of Victory; two sisters: Patricia Dalley of Lancaster NH, Terri Tirico and husband Mike of Raymond NH, three brothers: Steve Hapgood and wife Tracie of North Carolina, Scott LaMadeleine and wife Raylene of Meriden NH, Denis LaMadeleine Jr. and wife Susan of Concord; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Sayles Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 5-8PM.

Services will be held Thursday at 11AMat the Concord Community Church. Mr. John Sleeper will officiate.

Anne M. Roy
5/28/1954 - 9/3/2010

Anne Margaret Roy of Lyndonville passed away early Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center after being diagnosed with cancer three weeks prior.

She was born in Burlington on May 28, 1954, the adopted daughter of Theodore and Belle (Vance) Perrigard. Her father Ted passed away in 1990, her mother Belle in the year 2000.

Following her graduation from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1972, Anne met Ghislain E. Roy of Norton while he was an Army recruiter in St. Johnsbury. She and Ghislain were married April 30, 1973. They spent the next twenty years living in the various places Ghislain was stationed: Germany, Texas, Maryland, and New York.

Anne was able to return ‘home’ to St. Johnsbury; she and Ghislain lived at the longtime Perrigard home on Central St. until they bought their home on Brown Farm Rd. in Lyndonville in 2006. She will be greatly missed by all her family.

She is survived by her husband Ghislain, known as ‘Jason’; son Daniel Roy, his wife Yvette and their children Kyle, Alesha, Sierrah, and Elizabeth-Jane Anne; daughter Rachael Forney, her husband Bert, and their children Seth, Hallie, and Caitlyn; a sister Alice Bishop and husband Joseph of Waterbury; and Ghislains’s extended family.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury this Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Church at 11AM. Fr. Dwight Baker will be the celebrant. Cremation will follow the Mass.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Sunday afternoon 2-5PM.

Shirley P. Cross
5/17/1932 - 9/5/2010

Shirley Pierce Cross

Shirley P. Cross of Groton, Vermont passed away at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville NH Sunday evening, Sept. 5, 2010 at the age of 78 with her daughters Amy and Amanda, and her granddaughter Laura, at her side.

She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont on May 17, 1932, the daughter of Raymond and Louise (Bullock) Pierce. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice Cross Jr. on Nov. 17, 2006, and by two sons: Alexander Cross in 1981, and Arnold Cross in 1994.

Shirley and Maurice lived for over 30 years in West Danville, Vermont and moved to Groton in 1987. Shirley was a homemaker and proud to have been a hospice volunteer for over 20 years.

She is survived by four of her six children: Ann Bradtmuller and husband Warren of Addison VT, Andrew Cross of Groton VT, Amanda Swoyer of Cornish Flat NH, Amy Alexander of Groton VT; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Melville Pierce and wife Suzie of Barnet VT, Stanley Pierce and wife Claire of East Montpelier VT; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held in Groton, Vermont this Thursday, Sept. 9, at 11AM at the Groton United Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Candace Ricker officiating. Family committal services will be held prior to the service at the Danville Green cemetery in Danville, Vermont.

Memorial contributions could be contributed to the Groton United Methodist Church, PO Box 157, Groton, VT. 05046.

Lawrence A. Murray
10/21/1936 - 9/6/2010

Lawrence A. Murray, 73, of Lyndon, went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ early Monday morning September 6, 2010, while he was at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, surrounded by his family.

He was born October 21, 1936 in Clarksville, NH, the son of Raymond and Pearl (Davis) Murray. Larry graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1955.

A well respected businessman throughout the area, Larry worked as a meat cutter for more than Forty years. He owned and operated Lyndonville Food Service and Freezer Locker for several years. He then purchased the old Swift building on Eastern Ave. in St. Johnsbury and began Murray’s Meats and Smoke House. After selling his business, he sold Real Estate for many years.

Larry had a strong faith and was a founding member of the Lyndon Bible Church. He was a director of the Caledonia County Fair and just two weeks ago at the 2010 fair he won a blue ribbon in the cavalcade with his 1964 Chrysler Imperial Crown. He enjoyed horse pulling, attending auctions, and most of all he loved his family and attending family functions. He was a generous man who helped many people in need.

Survivors include his mother, Pearl Murray of Sutton; three daughters, Allison Branon and husband Glen of St. Johnsbury, Julie Keithan and husband Thomas of Sheffield, and Jennifer Sherburne and husband Michael of St. Johnsbury; a son, Michael Murray and wife Mary of Jericho, VT; fifteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, to whom he was known as Papa; three brothers, Wendell Murray of Sheffield, Robert Murray and wife Fran of Whitefield, NH, and Chester Murray and wife Marge of New Jersey; five sisters, Elizabeth Ford of Tennessee, Virginia Locke and husband Steve of Bath, NH, Patricia Tanner and husband Hayden of Sutton, Linda Langmaid of Lyndonville, and Sandra Goodwin and husband Neil of Troy, NH; his former wife, Nancy Whittier and husband Evan of Lyndon Center; many nieces, nephews, and close friends; and his Lyndon Bible Church family.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Lawrence A. Murray Jr.; his father, Raymond Murray; a great grandson, Collin Simpson; a sister, Gloria Murray; and a brother, Roger Murray.

Funeral services will be held in Lyndon Friday September 10, at 11:00 AM at the Lyndon Bible Church (located on Brown Farm Road just off of the Red Village Rd.) with the Rev. Joel Battaglia officiating. Following the service a luncheon will be held at the church. Burial in Hillside cemetery in West Burke will follow the luncheon.

Friends may call on the family Thursday evening from 6-8 at the Guibord Funeral Home.

Robert C. Rexford
7/21/1923 - 9/9/2010

Robert C. Rexford, 87, of Lyndonville, died Thursday morning September 9, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury.

He was born July 21, 1923 in Sheffield, the son of Clarence and Bernice (Roberts) Rexford.

Bob attended the White School in East Burke and then the St. Johnsbury Trade School until he was old enough to join the US Army where he served his country as a Corporal during World War II.

Following his discharge from the Army, Bob spent much of his adult life as a dedicated worker at VT Tap & Die Co. and Northeast Tool of Lyndonville. He retired in 1986 and then dedicated his days to loving his cherished wife, Audrey (Edmunds) Rexford, (whom he married on December 24, 1953), and their daughters and families.

Bob took great pride in caring for his lawns and gardens. He enjoyed caring for his daughter’s childhood pets including stray cats and dogs, and their horses and ponies. Bob and Audrey spent many summer weekends with their daughters traveling the local circuit showing their horses and ponies, bringing home many blue ribbons to hang on their bedroom walls. For two weeks each summer, Bob took his family to Uncle Ralph’s camp on Island Pond where they enjoyed swimming, fishing, telling stories, sharing jokes, and enjoying time away from the phone and television.

As Bob and Audrey’s daughters became mothers, Bob focused on being sure they were healthy, happy, and spoiled to no end. For as long as he was physically able, Bob wouldn’t miss the opportunity to watch his grandchildren play sports.

Nothing in Bob’s life was more important than his family, and anyone who wanted to be a part of his family was welcomed with open arms. He would happily give his last dollar to help a complete stranger or to make a child smile, and he touched the lives of many with his humor. Bob will be forever loved, missed, and remembered by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Audrey Rexford of Lyndonville (P. O. Box 611, 05851); four daughters, Janice Powers and husband Harry of Sutton, Debra Rexford and her partner Ted Ismail of Wasilla, AK, Nancy Hartwell and husband Bill of Lyndonville, and Pamela Scott and her fiancée David Chase, and his son Ched of St. Johnsbury; fourteen grandchildren, Kristen Heath Powers, Sarah Powers, David Jr., Dana, and Daniel Goodwin, Amber Sylvester Spear, Cassi Sylvester Gallagher, Robert, Bill Jr., Zachary, and Tyler Hartwell, Malinda Hartwell Howard, Karl and Matthew Scott; Bob was anticipating the arrival of his fifteenth great grandchild.

Other survivors include a sister, Shirley Temple and husband Ralph of East Burke; his in-laws, Mary Rexford of East Burke, Alice and Kenneth Nichols of St. Johnsbury, Allyn and Paula Edmunds of Lyndon Center, and Ashley and Jennie Edmunds of Lyndon Center; many nieces, nephews, and close friends; and his faithful and constant canine companion “Blue”.

He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Walter, Francis “Stub”, Clifford “Tom”, and Calvin Rexford; and his father and mother in-law, Alvah and Avis Edmunds.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon September 14, at 2:00 PM at the Guibord Funeral Home with the Rev. Ann Hockridge officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmont cemetery in East Burke.

Friends may call on the family Monday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
