Huntington, Mary
Mary Stevens Huntington, of Port Orchard, died on Oct. 12, 2007, in Bremerton.
She was 67.
She was born on July 21, 1940, in Butte, Mont., to Williams and Mary (Rowe) Stevens.
She graduated from Richland High School in 1958 and attended Columbia Basin College.
She married Arthur S. Huntington on June 10, 1961, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed horticulture, music, bird watching and crafts.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was active in temple work.
She is survived by sons Michael (and wife Brenda) Huntington of Tonasket, and Steven (and wife Julie) Huntington of Lynchberg, Va.; daughters Chris (and husband LeVan) Goodey of Los Alamos, N.M., Liz Karr of Blaine, Valerie Huntington of Port Orchard and Annette (and wife Jeff) Welton of Maple Valley; and 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Arthur and daughter Patricia I. Huntington.
A graveside service was held at Rest Haven cemetery in Richland on Oct. 18.

Long, Ronald
Ronald M. Long, of Port Orchard, died in Bremerton on Oct. 11, 2007.
He was 72.
He was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Bremerton to Myron and Margaret (Farley) Long.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1952.
He married Lila Fowler on Dec. 31, 1979.
He worked for 40 years as a torpedo engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport, retiring in 2006. He also worked for 18 years at McGavin’s Bakery in Bremerton.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1954 to 1958 in Long Beach, Calif., and Alaska abaord the cutter Sedge.
He enjoyed golf, model ship building, football, yard work and his dogs.
He is survived by wife Lila Long; sons Robert, Kevin, Kenny, Jamie, Teddy, and Ronnie Long and Eldon, Rocky and Steven Walter; daughters Ella Pecoraro, Cheri Johnson, Linda Arvizu, Shelly Payseno and Gimi Willie; brother Richard Long; sister Margaret “Peggy” Schram; and 25 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Oct. 18 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
Remembrances can be made to the American Heart Association.

Wallace, Florence
Florence Theresia Wallace died on Oct. 6, 2007, at the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil.
She was 82.
She was born in Frone, Sweden, on June 15, 1925, to Rudy and Hulda Johnson, and emigrated to the United States at the age of 5.
She served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist’s mate third class.
She enjoyed playing cards, camping and reading.
She is survived by daughter Tina (and husband Steven) Plante; sister Doris Medisky; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Verlyn Wallace and children Beth, Larry and Jerry.
An open rememberance will be held at the Retsil chapel at 11 a.m. on Oct. 13.

Moon, Joanne
Joanne M. Moon, of Bremerton died at her home on Oct. 4, 2007.
She was 68.
She was born in Princeton, Ill., on March 16, 1939, to Joe and Oma (Headspeth) Lawes.
She attended Princeton High School.
She was a Christian.
Joanne enjoyed knitting — donating numerous caps, sweaters and booties for premature babies — reading, bowling and collecting owls.
She is survived by daughters Pam (and husband John) Sanders, Mary (and husband William) “Pat” Acland and Sandy Jorgensen; sister Mary (and husband Myron) Beil; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery at a later date.
Remembrances can be made to the Breast Cancer charity of the giver’s choice.

Burnham, Avis
Avis Harriet Burnham of Port Orchard died Sept. 29, 2007. She was 93.
She was born on May 18, 1917, in Blackduck, Minn., to Antonette and Harry Moen.
She became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in 1948 and was actively involved all of her life in many areas of the church, including Sunday School, Ladies Aid and choir. She was also an avid golfer, spending many days at the Clover Valley Golf and Country Club, loved gardening and playing cards.
Avis is survived daughter Shannon Pinger; son Denny Burnham; and five grand
children and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ross Burnham and a brother, Alton Moen.
Services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 151 Tremont West, Port Orchard on Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. A fellowship reception following at Bethany Lutheran Church.
Remembrances can be made to the Stained Glass Window fund c/o Bethany Lutheran Church.

Boltz, Glenn
Glenn D. Boltz, of Port Orchard, died on Feb. 10, 2008, at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
He was 47.
He was born on July 14, 1960, at Harrison Medical Center to Donald and LaVerne (Ozenbaugh) Boltz.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1978.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, painting and woodwork-ing.
He is survived by his mother, LaVerne Boltz; sisters Karen (and husband Ronald) James of Port Orchard, Lori (and husband Ronald) Patterson of Port Orchard and Kimberly (and husband Robert) Ojima of Port Orchard; and brothers Michael (and wife Kay) Boltz of Port Orchard, Richard (and wife Gwen) Boltz of Hermiston, Ore., and Larry (and wife Suzanne) Boltz of Shelton.
An open house was held at the family home on Feb. 17.

Burnham, Teresa
Teresa A. Burnham, a lifetime resident of Port Orchard, died at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, on Feb. 8, 2008.
She was 45.
She was a graduate of South Kitsap High School in 1980, where she played basketball and softball.
She is survived by son Zachary Bloom; daughter Samantha Bloom, parents Gerald and Nadine Burnham; grandparents Glen and Nona Heath, sister Tammy Burnham-Ashley; and brother Terry A. Heath.
Funeral arrangements were not announced.

Walsh, Robert
Robert C. Walsh, of Port Orchard, died on Feb. 3, 2008, at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma.
He was 88.
He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in South Colby, to Frank L. and Hazel L. Walsh.
He attended schools in South Kitsap and West Seattle.
He married Mary L. Vales on Feb. 11, 1940.
He retired in 1972 from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He also worked for Gold Mountain Golf Course, Kitsap County Bank, and K-Mart.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1943.
He enjoyed golf and wood working and was a square dance caller for Square Steppers & Nispic High Steppers.
He is survived by wife Mary Walsh; son Robert (and wife Merrilynn) Walsh; daughters Nancy Walsh, Diane Murdock, Phyllis Walsh, Charlene (and husband Clif) Boyce, and Cynthia (and husband Rod) Hammond; sisters Francis (and husband Luis) Valley, Dorothy Dworkin and Hazel (and husband Albert) Buss; and 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother Lorrin Walsh.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 7 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.

Sandberg, Bill
William John Sandberg, of Manassas, Va., died on Feb. 3, 2008.
He was 63.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1943, in Bremerton to Irene Baxter and Orvo Sandberg.
He grew up in the Gorst area and was active in sports, especially track and football. In 1961, he graduated with honors from South Kitsap High School.
He graduated from the University of Washington in 1965 as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he was wounded in combat and received a Purple Heart.
After serving for 20 years in the Marines, he retired as a major. He then followed began buying antique furniture to refinish and sell. He was the owner of Bill Sandberg Antiques for more than 22 years.
He is survived by son Erik Sandberg, of Washington, D.C.; daughter Jeni Sandberg, of New York; mother Irene Baxter, of Gorst; brothers Richard Sandberg, of Gorst, and Larry (and wife Georgina) Sandberg; sisters Jeanette Zaleski, Susan (and husband Gary) Peterson and Donna (and husband Neil) Bretvick.
He was buried with a military salute at Quantico National cemetery in Virginia.
