James S. 'Jim' B. Burton - Jan. 24, 2009

James 'Jim' B. Burton passed away Jan. 24, 2009, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital surrounded by his family members. He had put up a courageous fight against his cancer before going home.

Jim was born March 22, 1953, to Francis and Betty (Powell) Burton and was raised in Aberdeen. He married Pauline Arndt on June 25, 1977, and they spent their married life in Aberdeen.

Jim was born to be a truck driver and drove log, dump, lowboy, tanker and container trucks for over 35 years. His son, Ed followed in his fathers footsteps and became what Jim referred to as a great driver. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go fishing and calm digging with his sons. Jeff especially remembers clam digging in the dark (with no lantern!) and fishing in the rain. If you couldnt find him at home he would probably be with his brothers and sisters and his Big Book sharing what he learned in the last 18 years.

Jim wanted to be remembered for his smile and his love of life. He was a caring man and many people were fortunate to have had him touch their lives. His last year with us found him fishing with Davey and drag racing his brothers 28 Ford sedan. Jim believed that you are to live life to the fullest and when it comes time to go you slide sideways into Heaven hollering Wahoo, what a ride!. He will be truly missed by many.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pauline at the family home in Aberdeen; son, Jeff Muhlhauser of Aberdeen; two granddaughters, Jordan Ann Muhlhauser and Alyx Alaina Muhlhauser; and son, Edward Muhlhauser of Fond Dulac, Wis.; and two grandsons, Jakob Dean Labisch and Joshua John Muhlhauser. Jim is also survived by his three brothers, Bob of Hoquiam, Michael (Barbara) of Aberdeen and Roger (Mary) of Hoquiam.

There will be a pot-luck gathering of family and friends at the Cosmopolis Lions Club on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, from 1-5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Bring a story and share with all.

Cremation arrangements are by:

Fern Hill Funeral Home of Aberdeen

Mary E. (Woods) Williams - Nov. 12, 2008

Mary Ellen (Woods) Williams, 79, a resident of Cosmopolis, died Wednesday morning, November 12, 2008 at Grays Harbor Health & Rehab Center in Aberdeen.

Mary was born August 30, 1929 in Centralia, Washington, to Arlie & Pearl Woods. Mary played the trumpet in a family swing band through high school with her sisters and father, and many stories of her music and dance band entertained the family for many years.

Mary graduated from Centralia High School and married the love of her life Fred H. Williams in 1949. He died in 1997 after 47 years of marriage.

Mary and Fred moved to McCleary in 1962 and opened Fri-Mars In and Out drive in, that was a favorite of the many clam diggers and beach tourists. Fri-Mars prospered until the freeway was completed and the traffic to the beaches and the Harbor began to take the faster way. Mom was always adamant that they had the first and best hamburger and fry sauce and that people would drive miles for.

They moved to Cosmopolis where Mary became a homemaker, avid sports fan and catered to her childrens needs. After the children married , Mary worked for American Greeting Cards as a merchandiser. She loved her job and met many new friends.

Mom lived for Christmas with her family and Christmas in the home was the most special time of the year. She loved shopping and more especially taking her granddaughters shopping on one of her shop till you drop sprees. The granddaughters could never keep up!

Mary loved to watch movies at home, was an avid bowler, loved to fish and was the ultimate family supporter of all their outdoor activities. One memory that will stay with the children was the yearly hunting and camping trips that her family made for many years. She was the consummate camp cook, hunting companion and mother.

She will be missed, thought of daily and always loved.

Mary is survived by a daughter Cindy Stevens of Cosmopolis; son Chris and his wife Jennifer Williams of Elma; two grandchildren, Saleana Stevens of Oregon, and Cardi Williams-Hoffman and husband Justin from Olympia, a very special niece Shari Corrigan and husband Mike from Shelton; two sisters, Arlene and Pat; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
