FRANK RAYMOND GIDDINGS
January 20, 1921 - August 21, 2010
Frank Raymond Giddings, 89, a long time resident of Kettle Falls, WA passed away Saturday August 21, 2010 in Colville, WA. He was born in Ellensburg, WA on January 20, 1921 to Loran and Elsie (Casey) Giddings.
Frank attended school at Republic, WA. His early years were spent farming and working in the mines. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor he joined the Army and later transferred to the Air Force where he became a gunner in an A20 bomber. Frank made 51 missions in the Pacific and was with the first occupation troops in Japan. He returned to the Republic area where he started his own business. In 1952 the family moved to Kettle Falls where Frank continued to work as a mason/general contractor and became widely known for his trade. He was a member of the American Legion and the Grand Aerie Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Fine and his second wife Eileen Giddings; brothers, Don, Leonard, Richard; and sisters, Rene, Frances, Edna, and Marge.
He is survived by his brother, Myron; daughters, Shirley Monette and husband Harold of Kettle Falls, WA; Barbara Giddings of Kettle Falls, WA; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Spokane or Kettle Falls Food Bank. Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory have been entrusted with the arrangements.
Graveside service will follow at the Meyers Falls cemetery in Kettle Falls, WA.

Velma L. Green
October 24, 1925 - August 18, 2010
Velma Green, age 84, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2010 in Colville, Washington. She was the daughter of Henry Waltham and Hulda Dorothea Magdalana (Harneitt) Harkness born on October 24, 1925 in Molson-Chesaw, Washington.
Velma was raised in the Tonasket area and graduated from Tonasket High School in 1944. She worked for the local newspaper until she met a young serviceman, Harvey Green. They married and made their home in Omak. They soon moved to Northport where Harvey worked at the mine, until he was hired on at the Pend Oreille mine. Harvey and Velma moved their family to Metaline Falls in 1956, where they made their home. Velma spent her time raising her six children and tending to the needs of her family. She also worked outside the home for several years at Mt. Linton Hospital as the cook, until the hospital closed. Velma soon began cooking for the Senior Citizen Center in Ione until her retirement.
Velma was instrumental in the opening of the museum in Ione, which was formally The Tiger Store. She continued donating many hours once the museum was opened. Velma also volunteered at the Cutter Theatre. She was active in the United Congregational Church in Ione, acting as Interium Pastor when needed. Velma loved to read and taught many students at Ione Elementary School to read and to appreciate the value of reading. Velma was a hardworking loving person who enjoyed her family and friends. She enjoyed her garden, knitting and crocheting.
Once her health began to decline, she sold her home and moved into an assisted living home, Quail Hollow, in Chewelah. She resided at Quail Hollow for 4 years, until it became necessary for full time care. She moved to Pinewood Terrace Nursing Center where she passed away.
Velma was preceded in death by her daughter Lois. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Henry "Buster" and Joan Green of Chewelah and Vernon "Buck" Green of Montana; her daughters and their husbands, Dolores and Bob Krabbenhoft of Metaline, Peggy Krabbenhoft of Metaline, and Marlene Martin of Post Falls, ID; 18 Grandchildren; 25 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Velma will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the United Congregational Church in Ione, Washington. An Ash Committal will follow at the Metaline cemetery. The Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.

JAMES FRANCIS BRUCE HAYNES
October 2, 1930 - August 17, 2010
James Francis Bruce Haynes, age 79, passed away quietly at his home on August 17, 2010. He was born October 2, 1930 to James Ershal and Gladys Frances Esther (Bell) Haynes. Jim was the oldest of 11 brothers and sisters. Jim and his siblings were raised in Peach Crest and attended school in the Kettle Falls area.
At an early age, Jim left home to join the army. Life in the Army took him and his family to Kansas, Hawaii, Kentucky, California and Oklahoma. Jim served two tours in Vietnam and retired with 23 years of service as a Chief Warrant Officer 2. Jim received several awards and commendations while serving his country, an Army Commendation Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal, a Valorous Unit Award and a Bronze Star.
After retirement from the Army, Jim was drawn back to Kettle Falls where his sons had made their homes. With the desire to keep busy, Jim worked several occupations. His favorite job was driving logging truck, which he drove off and on for over 20 years. Also during this time, Jim turned the building he owned in Kettle Falls into a video store. He decided his constant companion, Janice Weaver should run the video store and he would continue to drive truck. "Jim's Video" has been operating ever since.
Jim was a self accomplished carpenter and mechanic; he was always building or fixing something. He and Janice enjoyed traveling whenever possible and he was a master of puzzles when times were slow. Jim was so proud of his grandchildren and was really enjoying the role of Grandpa and Great Grandpa.
Jim is survived by Janice Weaver at the home; two sons, Howard Haynes and his wife, Kathi, and Rod Haynes and his wife, Lorie all of Kettle Falls; four step-daughters, Renee' Willmon of Velma, OK, Lea Dawn Womack and family of Velma, OK, Nanci Taplett and family of Woodinville, WA, and Toni Weaver of Kettle Falls; four grandchildren, Chad Haynes of Portland, OR, Brianna Waggoner and family of Kettle Falls, Tiffany Haynes of Las Vegas, NV and Kyle Haynes of Cheney, WA. Jim was preceded in death by his infant son, James Haynes.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Meyers Falls cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's honor to the Kettle Falls Food Bank or to the charity of one's choice. The Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

Carol Sue Gourlie
September 25, 1945 - August 17, 2010
Carol S. Gourlie, a 40 year resident of Colville, WA passed away on Aug. 17, 2010 at her Colville home. Carol was born on Sept. 25, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Del W. and Sue E. (Graham) Myer.
In 1951, Carol’s family moved to Eureka, CA. There she attended grade school and began high school. Her family relocated to Tulsa, OK in 1961, where she was raised by her loving parents, Edward J. and Sue E. (Graham) Foley. Carol attended Central High School in Tulsa and graduated in 1963. She then resided for a time in Denver, CO until 1971 when she moved to Colville, WA. Carol worked at the law office of Robert Skidmore for several years and assisted with the operations of Acorn Distributing. On Sept. 24, 1983, Carol married Paul Gourlie. Together they opened Paul’s Yamaha and worked side by side to build a successful business. In 1999 Carol began a courageous eleven-year battle with cancer. Due to her declining health, in July of 2006, she and Paul sold the business. Together they enjoyed the beauty found only in Northeast Washington.
Carol loved her family with an unwavering devotion. She loved working beside Paul and sharing in motorcycling, boating, camping, and snowmobiling adventures, as well as her favorite - oceanic cruises. Carol also enjoyed reading, oil-painting, scrap booking and attending church. She embraced life, a moment at a time, and found inspiration in daily gifts most often taken for granted. Carol was exuberant, independent and unstoppable. She faced her cancer 'head-on' and without reservation. Yet, this mighty little lady, did it not for herself but for those she loved and they were all loved well.
Carol was preceded in death by her son, Brian J. Acorn on July 22, 1975, her parents, Ed and Sue Foley and her brother, Del W. Myer Jr.
Carol is survived by her husband, Paul Gourlie, at the home; son, Shane Acorn and wife, Bonnie, Colville, WA; daughters, Melody Carpenter and her husband, Chance, Colville, WA, Shawna Acorn Ayers and husband, Jason, Spokane, WA; sister, Charlene R. Green and her husband, Dale, Coweta, OK; step-sons, Jason Gourlie, Florida, Sam Gourlie, currently serving in Iraq, Jody Gourlie, San Diego, CA and she was a loving 'Nana' to 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

CORAL J HANSEN
October 13, 1951 - August 8, 2010
Coral J Hansen, a lifetime resident of the Colville area, passed away on August 8, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Colville on October 13, 1951 the daughter of Guy Norman and Berneice Elaine (Buscher) Magee.
Coral was raised in Colville and learned to love the outdoors growing up here. She was married to Danny Hansen in 1975. Coral also worked at Stimson Lumber for over 25 years where she had numerous duties from working at the scales, doing payroll and working as the human resources director. Coral’s main passion was spending time outdoors living life to the fullest. She loved riding and raising horses, fishing, playing horseshoes, snowmobiling, and even bought a four-wheeler last year. Coral was an avid trap shooter and was a member of the Kettle Falls Trap Club. Coral was a traveler and enjoyed her trips to Cape Cod and Mexico. Coral even enjoyed spending time trying her luck at casinos. She had many friends in many different circles. Her loving and vivacious character will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Coral was preceded in death by her husband Danny Hansen and her father Guy Magee. She is survived by her mother Berneice Magee of Colville, her step-son Darren Hansen and wife Gwen of Colville, her sister Patty Feldhausen and husband Steve of Sandpoint, ID, her granddaughter Melissa Wolf and husband Josh of Colville, great grandchildren Patrick and Millie Wolf of Colville, and many other friends and family.

JIM WAGNER
May 7, 1953 - August 3, 2010
James 'Jim' Clark Wagner, a resident of Loon Lake, WA passed away on August 3, 2010 in Loon Lake at the age of 57. He was born on May 7, 1953 in Bay St. Louis, MS the son of Lewis and Bessie (Clark) Wagner.
Jim was raised in Bay St. Louis and graduated from the Bay St. Louis High School in 1971. He then attended college at the Pearl City Community College where he worked toward becoming an electrician. Jim later found that his passion in life was working in the shipyards as a metal fabricator. He learned how to weld on ships and oilrigs, and even found himself painting rigs in the Gulf of Mexico at times. He met Judy Phemester in 2000, and they soon fell in love and began their relationship together. They moved to Loon Lake in 2004 and Jim began to work for Reliance building trailers and truck beds.
Jim loved to ride along the seawall in Mississippi with Judy, and he enjoyed fishing when he had a chance. He was an excellent cook, and especially loved cooking Cajun food. Most of all, Jim loved welding, and always made sure his work was done to perfection.
Jim is survived by his loving companion Judy Phemester of Loon Lake, WA, his son Justin Wagner of Mississippi, and his brothers Lewis Wagner of Columbus, GA and Chuck Wagner of Long Beach, MS.

MAXINE LORRAINE PORTER
June 10, 1940 - July 30, 2010
Maxine Lorraine Porter made the journey from this earth into the open arms of the Lord on July 30th at the age of 70. Born on June 10, 1940 in Tacoma, Washington to William and Dolores Doyle, Maxine and her family moved to Peachcrest, Kettle Falls. There Maxine lived with her sisters Verlene and Leona, and her brother Paul. She lived in the house her father had built until her graduation from Marcus High School in 1958.
Upon graduation Maxine moved to Spokane, Washington where she worked and attended Kinman Business University. In 1957 Maxine met Robert Porter and they were married on December 20, 1960. The couple moved to Colville where they became the owners of Porter’s Polka Dot Food Store and started their family.
Bob and Maxine were blessed with five children; Howie (53), Heidi (49), Bobbi (47), Cindy (45) and Jason (40). In 1976 they were given the opportunity to bring an addition to their family and welcomed Jack Bruggenkamp as their son.
In the years to come Bob and Maxine had owned and operated many stores in the Stevens County area. At one time they owned Old Dominion Food Store, Kettle Falls Grocery and Polka Dot Food Store. Years later they purchased and ran Yellow Pine Grocery and RV Park.
Maxine was an outgoing, hardworking loving person who touched many people with her caring tender ways. She enjoyed meeting new people and shared stories and good times with all who were blessed to meet her. She loved her family, friends and acquaintances.
Maxine enjoyed quilting, sewing, barbeques, card games and every sporting event that her children and grandchildren were involved in. Her laugh was infectious and her smile was radiant.
As we prepare to present Maxine to the Lord’s house we may take comfort in the memories we were allowed to share with this amazing woman. She lived her life with grace, dignity, and respect. This world was truly a better place with Maxine here.
Maxine was preceded in death by her father William, her mother Dolores, her mother-in-law Barbara Porter, her father-in-law Fred Porter, her sister-in-law Katherine 'Cookie' Bell, and her brother-in-law Glen Thompson.
She is survived by her husband Bob of Colville; her daughters, Heidi Holter and her husband, Jeff, Colville; Bobbi Carruthers and her husband, Bill, Spokane; Cindy Porter and her husband, Ray, Orient; her sons, Howie Porter and his wife, Theresa, Colville; Jason Porter, Colville, Jack Bruggenkamp and his wife, Julie, Snohomish; her sisters, Verlene Kaiser and her husband, Gary, Boise; Leona Thompson, Colville; her brother, Paul Doyle and his wife, Mollie, Kettle Falls; her seventeen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many many friends.
A Graveside Service for Maxine will be held at Mountain View Park cemetery, Colville, at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010.
The Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. At the family’s request, donations may be given to the Colville and Kettle Falls Food Banks in Maxine’s honor.

LOIS MAY JENSEN
February 2, 1918 - July 28, 2010
Lois was born on February 2, 1918 to Alvertus and Blanche Pickett in Platteville, Colorado. She was the oldest child in a family of six. In 1933 the Pickett family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. Lois graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1937 and that same year married Durward Jensen. They moved to Lincoln, WA in 1941 and lived there until 1971. They moved to Chewelah, WA in 1978 and after Durward's death Lois lived at Quail Hollow, later moving to Spokane. In 2009 she moved to the Lincoln Hospital Long Term Care facility in Davenport, WA. She went to be with her Lord on July 28. 2010. Lois was 92 years young. Lois had many hobbies. Her garden was full of beautiful flowers and her crochet needle was always busy. She loved to read, especially her bible and was active in her church and helped many people.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister. She is survived by a son, Gary Jensen of Chewelah WA and daughter Carol Vaughan (David) of Davenport, WA., seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, sister, Hattie Diebel, brother Gerald Pickett and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial for Lois at 11:00 a.m. on August 6, 2010 at the Chewelah Senior Hall, E. 3rd and Main, Chewelah WA with burial to following at the Chewelah Pioneer cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Chewelah Evangelical Free Church P.O. Box 1462, Chewelah, WA 99109 in Lois’ name. Danakas Funeral Chapel & Crematory is caring for the family.
