Beth L. Clark

Beth Luree Clark died peacefully at home on Feb. 28, 2016. Born Feb. 15, 1923, in Elwood, Neb., Beth was the youngest of nine children born to Vesta and William McGraw. She grew up in Elwood and graduated from Elwood High School, where she met John Clark, her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 67 years.

Beth and John were married on Nov. 17, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas, on the same day John was commissioned as a naval officer. After his discharge, they settled in Nebraska and started a family, then moved to Washington State. They left Washington as John’s career advanced, but always wanted to return to “God’s Country.” In 1963, they purchased what became Clark’s Restaurant on Highway 101, just south of Cosmopolis. After twenty years, they sold the restaurant and retired to become snowbirds, spending winters in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and summers in Washington where their three daughters lived. They loved road trips and made several to see all corners of the country and to research their family histories. Since John played the fiddle and mandolin, they joined the Old time Fiddler’s Association and enjoyed many annual festivals in Weiser, Idaho. John passed away in 2011.

Beth’s family was her greatest joy. She was a generous and thoughtful mother and grandmother. To her, food was love, and she spoiled everyone preparing delicious meals. Her hobby was crocheting and she made beautiful afghans, tablecloths and doilies for family and friends. She also loved the many photos taken while traveling and at family gatherings. Her photo albums were beautifully organized and always included fun notations with the pictures.

She leaves behind her three daughters, Roxanne Moulton and Sherie Story (Dwayne Slate) of Olympia, Wash. and Linda (Randy) Briggs of Kelso, Wash.; three grandsons, one granddaughter, one granddaughter-in-law, and one great-grandson. Her son-in-law, Todd Moulton, preceded her in death. She also leaves behind three step-granddaughters and one step-grandson.

Evident throughout her life, Nona loved to travel. After she and Virgil retired, the two of them traveled the world together as part of the senior travel group based in Hoquiam, Wash. She also enjoyed planting and pruning her numerous flower beds and rhododendron bushes. But most all, Nona loved just being around her family, especially her grandkids; although her beloved dog Casey is a close second.
