Florence H. Zbylski

Florence H. Zbylski, a longtime Hoquiam, Wash., resident, passed away on March 26, 2016, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen, Wash. She was 88. Florence was on Nov. 5, 1927, in Hoquiam to John and Helen (Grymniewicz) Zbylski.

She attended Hoquiam schools, graduating from Hoquiam High School in 1946. She worked for the Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator and was also the secretary for their union.

Florence was a devoted member of Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam.

She enjoyed her flower gardens, music, especially Hawaiian and Hula dancing, which she also taught.

Florence is survived by her several cousins, including, Pat Brakus, who was also her caregiver.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, April 7, 2016, with a Funeral Mass to immediately follow at noon. Father Paul Brunet will be the presiding celebrant. The services will be held at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church, 200 L Street in Hoquiam. Concluding service with vault interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Eugene D. Potter

BATESVILLE, Ark. — Former Harbor resident Eugene David Potter of Batesville, Ark. died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in Batesville. He was 60.

He was born in Aberdeen and spend much of his youth in Pacific Beach. He was a mental health counselor for Birchtree Communities in Batesville.

Memorials are suggested to the Independence County Human Society, P.O Box 3477, Batesville, AR 72503.

David Elson

OLYMPIA — David O. Elson, a longtime resident of Aberdeen, died Friday, April 8, 2016, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 79.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Gerald Jones

Copalis Crossing resident Gerald L. Jones died Friday April 8, 2016, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 56.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Harlo Anderson

ELMA — Harlo C. Anderson, an Elma resident for more than 40 years, died Thursday April 7, 2016, at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma. He was 81.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Lloyd Zillyette

Lloyd W. Zillyette, a longtime Harbor resident, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 69.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Barbara J. Walter

A celebration of life for Montesano resident Barbara Jean Walter, who died March 2 in Aberdeen, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Chapel in Montesano.

Arrangements are by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Philip J. Harner

SEATTLE — Phillip Joseph Harner, a lifetime Aberdeen resident and former logger for Weyerhaeuser, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. He was 73.

A private family inurnment will take place later at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.

Donations are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation at Arthritis.org.

Cremation arrangements are by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Donald A. Stubb

Donald Anton Stubb, an Aberdeen resident and former forester, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at Gulke Manor Adult Care in Brady. He was 95.

There will be a celebration of his life later this month and details will follow in The Daily World.

Cremation arrangements are by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Betty Crump
(10/1/1939 - 4/7/2016)

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away at home Thursday evening with her loving family at her side.

A resident of Grayland for over 30 years, she enjoyed reading, bingo, and thrift shopping.

She leaves behind her husband of 60 years Pete Crump, daughters Glenda Tajbakhsh and Brenda Davis, four grandchildren, three sisters, one brother and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Betty Johnson, fathers Joseph Mazzola and Jim Johnson, brothers Billy Johnson and John Mazzola.

There will be no services per her request. A special thank you to Hospice services of Grays Harbor.

Edward J. Dombroski

Edward James Dombroski, a longtime Harbor resident, passed away on March 7, 2016, in Aberdeen, Wash. He was 72. He was born on Oct. 6, 1943, to Edward and Margie (Glick) Dombroski in Portland, Ore., and was raised in Aberdeen, Wash. He graduated from Aberdeen Weatherwax High School in 1963.

On Jan. 15, 1965, he married Shelia Marx. She survives him at the family home.

Ed worked for Poseys for 35 years, and worked for Mary’s River Lumber for 12 years.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his sons Kenneth, of Hoquiam, Wash., Rick (Shawnie) of Elma, Wash., and Rocky (Kerri) of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughter Alyce Dombroski-Romash of Seattle, Wash; grandchildren Jason, Justine, Racheal, Jared, Hailey, Eric, Jagger, Ryder; great-grandchildren Rafe and Brooke; other family members Sherry Crocker of Aberdeen, Wash. and Jerry (Midge) Bednarik of Aberdeen, Wash. He is also survived by life-long friends Jane and Jerry Madtson

Ed was preceded in death by his daughter in law Cheryl Dombroski.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Aberdeen Eagles: 208 W Market St, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Mark R. Lyle

Mark Raymond Lyle was born March 26, 1957, and died unexpectedly March 27, 2016, while vacationing in Mexico. He grew up in Montesano, Wash., then moved to Redmond, Wash., where he met and married Marcia Hill. They raised their three beautiful children in North Bend, Wash.

Mark’s career revolved around his passion for cars and horsepower. He owned CJ Auto Parts in Renton for 18 years, then managed Kenworth Northwest for five years. In 2000, he joined Pacific Raceways as a track starter and worked his way up to NHRA Division 6 certification team starter. In 2012, Mark was named the official chief starter for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. He was only the third person in the sport’s 61-year history to earn this prestigious national position. It was his dream job.

Mark is survived by his loving wife Marcia; his children Kim (Rob) Webster, Cari (fiance Mike Murray) Lyle and Chris (Candace) Lyle; his mother Pat Leslie; his brothers Ken Lyle, Jim Leslie, Bob Leslie and Tom Leslie; five grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family memorial, and Pacific Raceways will host a big celebration Aug. 5-7 during the 2016 NHRA Northwest Nationals.

Merch A. DeGrasse

Merch A. DeGrasse, 80 years of age and a longtime Pacific Beach, Wash., resident, died on Monday, April 4, 2016, at his home in Pacific Beach. He was born on Aug. 31, 1935, in Yakima, Wash., to Merch A. Sr. and Pearl L. (Pape) DeGrasse.

He was born and raised in Yakima, graduating from Yakima H.S. in 1953 before attending Washington State University. During his third year of college he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany serving in counter intelligence. Following his military discharge he returned to WSU and earned his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree.

Merch was married to Joann L. Stone on Dec. 9, 1961, in Yakima. The couple moved from Pullman to Seattle where they resided for nearly 40 years before retiring to Pacific Beach. They had two sons: Merch L. born in 1962 and Kirk A. born in 1969. While in Seattle he was a partner in the Shavey/DeGrasse/Shavey Architectural Firm for over 12 years before leaving to work for the State of Washington where he was a supervisor of State construction projects before retiring in 2000.

He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America for over 17 years where he served as a Scout Master and was also a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was active in his community and was heavily involved in the construction of the current West Seattle YMCA.

After retiring to Pacific Beach he volunteered with the Grays Harbor Fire District #8 in Pacific Beach and was twice elected as a commissioner. He was a member of the “Chapel By The Sea” Presbyterian Church at Pacific Beach and had been a Church Elder for 12 years. He also volunteered for many years at the Ocean Shores Animal Hospital.

He had numerous hobbies throughout his life, from restoring a 1910 Maxwell car and a 1947 Indian Chief motorcycle to building an 18-foot sailboat, to flying remote-controlled airplanes, to photography (to name just a few).

He enjoyed traveling, visiting Hawaii and Mexico multiple times on family trips. Merch and Joann traveled about the Western States in their motor home and in later years especially enjoyed spending time in Palm Springs.

Merch is survived by his wife, Joann DeGrasse of Pacific Beach; two sons, Merch L. DeGrasse (Tammy) and Kirk A. DeGrasse (Ellen) all of Seattle; two grandchildren, Evan DeGrasse and Kyla DeGrasse, both of Seattle; a brother, Dr. Robert W. DeGrasse of Los Altos Hills, Calif. as well as nine nieces and nephews.

The family requests donations are sent to the Pacific Beach Fire Department Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 357, Pacific Beach, WA 98571 or to the American Cancer Society, ATTN: Relay For Life, 1313 Broadway, Suite 100, Tacoma, WA 98402.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

Robert C. Stigall Sr.

Robert Clarence Stigall Sr., a longtime Willapa Harbor resident died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle; he was 73. Robert was born April 30, 1942 in Newberry, Mich. To Clayton and Piney (Underwood) Stigall.

Bob married Marie Burkett Oct. 14, 1961 in South Bend, she survives him at the family home. He worked for Grays River Logging as well as Weyerhaeuser Mills. He also spent time gillnetting. Bob was a bowling league member in the past; he enjoyed hunting and going to the Casino. He loved his grandkids very much, and never missed any of their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife Marie, and his dog Buck; a daughter Becky (Steve) Eastham; sons Bobby (Cathy) Stigall, Johnny (Amy) Stigall and Jamie (Kathy) Stigall; grandchildren Robby (Amber) Stigall, Lucas (Caiti) Stigall, Krystal and Markus Eastham, John Jr., Kaitlyn, and Summer Stigall, Kellyann Graves and Dalton Stigall; great-grandchildren Robby Stigall IV and Ava Stigall. Bob is also survived by brothers Wales, Arley, Glen (Debbie), Burt (Wendy), Gid (Marsha) Stigall and a sister Sabrina (Steve) Riggs and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Wyatt Stigall, his parents and brothers Thomas, Johnny and Earl.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the New Life Fellowship Church in Raymond, burial will follow at the Fern Hill cemetery in Menlo; all are welcome to return to New Life Church for a gathering.

Kathryn L. Bruner (Pittman)

Kathryn Louise Bruner (Pittman) passed away on April 9, 2016, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Elma on July 11, 1949, and spent most of her life in Washington. Kathryn was a trailblazer for women in criminal justice serving as one of the first female police officers for the Puyallup Tribal Police and one of the first to serve with the Washington State Department of Corrections. She served in criminal justice in Washington for 38 years.

Kathryn is survived by her parents, James and Violet Pittman, brothers Ron and Joe and sisters Gloria and Rhoda. She was preceded in death by her brother James. She is survived by her husband Byron, a blended family of 10 children, 23 grandchildren, an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many devoted friends.

A Memorial Service for Kathryn will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Abundant Life Church, 214 W. Young Street in Elma, Wash.

Robert (Bob) L. Flannigan

Robert (Bob) Loren Flannigan, a longtime resident of Cosmopolis, Wash., passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016, at his residence. He was 81. Bob was born on April 21, 1934, to Loren and Leola (Ross) Flannigan in Hoquiam, Wash. He was raised in the area and attended school in Hoquiam. He joined the United States Army, and married Joan Dokter on Oct. 5, 1955, in Munich, Germany.

Upon returning to the harbor, Bob was employed by Weyerhaeuser as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1993.

Bob enjoyed fishing, bowling, building bird houses and generally puttering around his garage. He also enjoyed coaching for his children and grandchildren’s teams. Bob and Joan were avid followers and supporters of their children’s, grandchildren’s, niece’s and nephew’s sporting and music events. They were fixtures at Pioneer Park long after their family outgrew the fields.

Bob is survived by his children: son Mike (Denise) Flannigan, and daughters Loanne Travess and Laurie (Ernie) Yeoman, all of Aberdeen, Wash., along with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Dennis Caruthers of Hoquiam, Wash. and sister Patricia Wilson, also of Hoquiam.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Joan and a sister, Sharon Goodwin.

There will be a celebration of life in Bob’s honor on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. at the Cosmopolis Lions Club: 601 2nd St, Cosmopolis, WA 98537. A private, graveside inurnment by the family will also take place Saturday. Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

James Morton

James Morton passed away on April 1, 2016, at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation in Montesano, Wash., following a lengthy illness. He was born in Marysville on Sept. 28, 1941, to Leah Kightlinger raised in Chico, Calif., and attended Chico schools before joining the Navy. He has been an Elma resident since 2009. His remains were donated to MedCure so others might benefit.

Jim worked for Glenn County Office of Education, Feather River Industries and was a master floral designer.

He was preceded in death by his mother and dad, Leah and Arthur Kightlinger, his brothers, Bob, Tom and Dick Morton and his sister, Joy Stogdill. He is survived by his three sisters Alice, Ruth and Susan, many nieces and nephews and his wife.

A memorial service will be held at Satsop United Methodist Church in Satsop, Wash. on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m.

Lloyd W. Zillyette (Big Bad John)

John was born on March 3, 1947 in Chippewa Falls, Wis. to Kenneth and Violetta Zillyette. He passed away April 7, 2016 in Aberdeen, Wash. He lived most of his life in Wisconsin, farming. Later, he became a long haul truck driver, traveling the east coast.

John truly enjoyed stock car races, horse pulling contests and motorcycles. He was an avid attendee at Sturgis Motor- cycle Rally, along with snow mobiling, while he was in Wisconsin.

John became disabled at a very young age and moved to Grays Harbor in 1998-1999.

He is survived by a brother Mike Zillyette of Shelton, Wash.; three sisters Delores (Dee) White, Darlene Nelsen of Grays Harbor and Diane Zillyette of Minnesota; two sons Charles, John (Jr.) of Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by two daughters Lori and Alice of Wisconsin and a brother Ronald Zillyette of Grays Harbor.

At his request there will be no services.

James M. Floch (Jimbo)

James Michael Floch, passed away on Feb. 24, 2016. Jim was born May 6, 1953, in Montesano, Wash., to Harvey and Dorothy Floch.

Jim was a lifetime resident of the Montesano area and grew up hunting, fishing and playing sports. He graduated from Montesano High School in 1971. Jim worked in the logging industry. He enjoyed talking about his years as a logger and time in the woods.

Jim loved working in his garden. He also enjoyed camping, cutting wood and hanging out with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his father, Harvey; his brothers, Mark, Tom (Jamie), Greg, and Jeff. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy and his brother Matt Floch.

A celebration of life will be held at Olympic View Grange, Brady, Wash., on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 1 p.m.
