Joseph Edward Barrett
April 29, 1908 - May 24, 2004

Joe Barrett, 96, died peacefully at Guardian Angel Homes in Richland, Washington on May 24, 2004.
He was born on April 29, 1907 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Edward and Catherine (O'Boyle) Barrett. The family moved to N. Idaho where his father died when he was three. He grew up in small timber and railroad towns of N. Idaho and NE. Washington such as Athol, Spirit Lake, Usk, Ruby, Tiger, Blueslide, and many more. The family finally settled in Medford, Oregon in 1925, where he worked in construction and in the pear industry.
He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was assigned as a truck driver in the 3807th Quartermaster Truck Company. In the D-Day invasion, he transported ammunition for the 101st Airborne Division. He carried troops and supplies in The Battle of the Bulge and was in Berlin at war's end. After an honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Medford and drove a delivery truck for the American Laundry and the Medford Cleaners, of which he was a part-owner. He then drove a parcel-post truck for the US Postal Service and retired in 1973. He moved to Richland in 1992.
He married Regina Dusenberry in 1943 and they were married until her death in 1984. He practiced his Catholic faith all of his life.
His sisters, Lucille and Charlotte, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Sander of Bend, OR; nephews Gregory Wright of Stockton, CA, Larry Wright and wife Gale of Prosser, WA, and Terry Sander and wife Denise of Bend; and several great and great-great nephews and nieces.
The family sincerely thanks the staff at Alterra Wynwood and Guardian Angel Homes for their devoted care and friendship.
A graveside service will be held in Medford at a later date.

Danny Ward Armstrong
February 23, 1959 - May 23, 2004

Danny is now free! Free in the loving arms of Jesus.
Danny spent most of his life in the Tri-Cities. He had a special love/gifting for pencil art, for playing guitar and reading.
His teaching years were some of his most memorable, where he shared his love of history with the students he taught. He is survived by his father Dennis (Judy) Armstrong and his sister Cathy (Fred) Jamison. He also had two nieces, Tara and Jessica Kious, and one nephew, Justin Kious. He was preceded in death by his mom, Barbara Armstrong. Danny had several aunts, uncles and cousins who played a vital role in his life. We thank each of them for how they extended themselves to him over his life. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 26th at Einan’s Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.

Norah Ball
December 02, 1938 - May 02, 2004

Norah Ball, 65, of Kennewick, passed away on May 2, 2004 at Kadlec Medical Center. She was born December 2, 1938 in Grimbsy, England to Charles and Norah Waite. Norah lived in the Tri-City area for 18 years and spent her time here as a homemaker.
She was a wonderful wife to John and mother to her five children. She had a love for the outdoors, which included the beach, camping and gardening. Norah enjoyed spending time with animals including her beloved Muffy and Tuffy.
Norah was a kindhearted spirit who would gladly help anyone in need. She was loved by all of those she touched and will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
She is survived by her husband John H., daughter Sally Strauss of Kennewick, sons, John of Olympia, Bruce of Centerville, WA, Bob of Kennewick, and Tom of Pasco. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren Stephanie, Jenelle, Justin, Jason, Zachary, and Spencer and 7 sisters and 1 brother from Great Britain.
Norah was preceded in death by her father and mother Charles and Norah Waite.
Her family and friends will hold a celebration of Norah’s life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Humane Society, 8620 W. Gage, Kennewick, WA 99336 in honor of her beloved boys Muffy and Tuffy.

Joyce L. Adrian
October 03, 1933 - April 16, 2004

Joyce L. Adrian, 70, of Benton City, went peacefully to be with the Lord on April 16, 2004 at the side of her family and loved ones.
She was born on October 3, 1933 in Bismark, North Dakota to Matt and Lorene Leibel. Her adolescent years were spent growing up in the Tri-City area and attending local schools. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1951 and attended Columbia Basin College where she majored in her executive secretary skills. Her early adulthood were spent being married and raising her two children while working at the Federal Building in Richland as an executive secretary. In the early 1970’s she became a cherry orchardist.
Her proudest moments were being with her family and being involved in her church and promoting the Kingdom of God.
She was a member of City Life Fellowship Church in Richland, a board member of Women’s Aglow and a member of AARP.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Linda McFarland and granddaughter Kristyn Joy; son, Thomas E. Adrian and his wife Linda and their children Michael G., Quaylin M., Lydia R., Matthew T., and Amanda J.; sister, Pat and husband Frank Collins and their children, John and wife Laura Collins and their son Jackson; Mark and wife Jeannie Collins and their son Brandon; Mike Collins; Valerie Collins and her children, Lindsey, Chad; Vicki Luna and her husband, Paul and their children, Christopher, and Ashley; and sister, Sherry Leibel. She is also survived by her stepsons, Jim Adrian and his children Beau and Breanne; Gary Adrian and his wife, Judy and his children Megan, Sydney, Allison and their mother Diedre; Rick and his sons, David and Sean; and great grandchildren Allisa and Braedan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Gerald D. Adrian.
Joyce loved all of her family deeply. She believed that all people were called to be part of the family of God. The desire of her heart was for them to know the same Lord and Savior that walked with her for so many years.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday April 24 at 11:00am at the Columbia Four Square Church in Richland.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the City Life Fellowship Church in Richland.

Betty Mae (Alvord) Allwine
May 19, 1926 - March 17, 2004

Betty Mae (Alvord) Allwine, age 77, of Richland, passed away March 17, 2004 at home with many of her family by her side. Her courageous strength to battle Lou Gehrig’s disease “her way” was a testament of how she lived her wonderful life.
She was born in Centralia, WA on May 19, 1926 to Margaret and Eugene Alvord. She was the oldest of 5 siblings.
Betty Mae was an accomplished musician who began taking piano and violin lessons at age 6. Her love for music carried throughout her life, playing her violin and singing with her beautiful soprano voice. She was a member of the Idaho Washington symphony orchestra and several United Methodist church orchestras and sang in the Messiah on many occasions.
She began her life’s journey attending the U of W in a nursing degree program, but soon after in 1945 she met her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Allwine and within a few short weeks they began their lives together. Her dreams of becoming an R.N. were put on hold to raise her children. Nine children later, and jobs of managing her families feed and seed company, waitressing, book keeping, school bus driver, where her nickname of lead foot became known, and family matriarch, Betty Mae received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from L.C.S.C. in 1984. She began her career at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston WA, where she was known as a truly caring Critical Care Nurse who always put her patients first. In 1992 she completed her Masters in Nursing from WSU and influenced many colleagues to continue their education no matter what their age.
Betty Mae was a member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution; The General Society of Mayflower Descendants; Past Worthy Matron, Order of the Eastern Star; Mother Advisor, Rainbow Girls; The Social Order of the Beauceant, and Statewide Committee Woman for Children’s Orthopedic Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her daughters Suzanne Turner and Joanne Baker, parents Margaret and Eugene Alvord.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Allwine, Sr, daughter Marsha and Fred Miller of Rochester and family; daughter Brenda and Dwayne Medlin of Temple, Texas and family; son Jerry and Cherie Allwine of Richland and family; son Greg and Laura Allwine of Enumclaw and family; son Gene Allwine of Pullman, WA and his daughter; son Darel and Sally Allwine of Richland and family; son Darin and Cindy Allwine of Woodbridge, VA and family; Suzanne’s children and grandchildren and Joanne’s children and grandchildren; sisters Barbara McGhee of Puyallup; Margenia Simmons of Oregon City, OR; Martha McNeill of Puyallup; brother Dick Alvord of Seattle All together she had 9 children, 23 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at Einan's Funeral Home, 915 By-Pass Hwy 240 in Richland on Saturday, March 27 at 1:00 PM.

Orinda P. Riste Beiers
December 11, 1913 - December 26, 2003

Orinda P. Riste Beiers passed away on December 26, 2003 at the age of 90. She spent 57 years of her adult life in the Tri-Cities area. For the past three years, she lived in Sunnyvale, CA near her daughter, Mary Beiers Glendinning.
Orinda was born on December 11, 1913 in Cooperstown, North Dakota to Julius and Alma (Stromme) Riste. She and Abe W. Beiers were married 57 years. She worked at Kadlec Hospital and volunteered for numerous organizations in the Tri-Cities, area including the Hospital Auxiliary. Orinda was a member of the Richland Lutheran. Church.
Orinda is survived by her daughter Mary Glendinning and husband Finis of Palo Alto, CA; two sons Thomas Beiers, and wife Elizabeth Richardson of Redmond, WA; and
Keith Beiers of Spokane, WA. Her husband, Abe W. Beiers, and son, David J. Beiers preceded Orinda in death. She is also survived by her sister Arleen Riste Retzlaff of Cooperstown, ND. In addition, she had nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Einan’s Funeral Home on Saturday January 10, 2004 at 11:00am.

Edith A. Barrett
February 08, 1920 - December 26, 2003

On December 26, 2003, Edith Arvella Burnley-Barrett joined our Lord in heaven. She was preceded in death y her son Jon Burnley, her husband Samuel E. Burnley and her second husband Lawrence Barrett.
Edith was a long time resident of the Tri-Cities. She worked for the City of Richland for 25 years in a variety of positions.
She enjoyed spending time reading her bible, cross-stitching and playing the piano. She traveled extensively through the US and Canada for several years enjoying the sites.
Edith is survived by her sister Lois Whitmore of Lusby, ND; her daughter Lois Hokanson of Vancouver, WA; her son Daniel Burnley of Richland, WA; four grandsons; four granddaughters and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Edith will be missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, P O Box 375 Richland, WA 99352.
Private interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, WA at a later date.

Janet Marilyn Alderson
November 13, 1934 - November 27, 2003

Janet M. Alderson, 69, of Richland, WA went to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2003. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Abilene, KS to Daniel and Nelle Kirkpatrick. She brought great joy and happiness to everyone who knew her. She was much loved by her many friends and family as evidenced by the 218 cards she received during her incredibly short battle with cancer.
Jan had many fond memories of her early years in Salina, KS. She was elected class secretary and Homecoming Queen at Salina High in 1951. She was on the school news staff and had a radio program of school activities. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University.
Jan married Bill on Dee 19, 1953, while he was stationed at Smoky Hill AFB in Salina. They moved to Oregon after the birth of their first son, where Bill graduated from the University of Oregon. A daughter and second son were born during those years.
In 1977, Jan and Bill co-founded Distinctive Properties, Inc. (real estate) in Kennewick, where Jan was the office manager for 18 years. After retirement, she enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona but her greatest happiness was being with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Meadow Springs CC and had just won the 9 hole net club championship of which she was very proud. Jan was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Richland.
Jan is survived by her husband Bill, 3 weeks short of 50 years. Also, sons and daughters-in law, John and Beth Alderson, Kennewick, Mike and Karis Alderson, Richland, and daughter and son-in-law, Jude and Steve Carlson, Redmond, and many special friends. Her much loved grandchildren are Daniel, Sierra and Becky, Kennewick, Kaitlyn and Ian, Richland, and Cody and Kimberly, Redmond. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Pat Kirkpatrick, Campbell, CA, and their families, and her sisters-in-law Donna and Mary Helen Alderson, Portland, OR and various cousins, KS.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm at Christ the King on Wednesday December 3. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the Knights of Columbus off of Van Giesen and the By-Pass Highway. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice or Tri-City Cancer Center Foundation.
