Carroll W. Harris
Master Sgt USAF Ret.
Carroll W. Harris, 80, passed away Jan. 18, 1998 at his home in Lakewood, with his loving wife, Doris, by his side. Carroll was born Aug. 5, 1917 in Mt. Vernon, OH. Through his high school years he was an outstanding football player. Carroll joined the Army in 1936- 1939. He was recalled in 1940, serving in the infantry under General George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge and the entire European Theater. He was discharged in 1946, re-enlisting in 1948 in the Air Force, retiring in 1960 after 22 years. After his retirement, he and his family moved to Renton, WA in 1960, where he worked until 1970 at the Boeing Co. In 1977 he and his wife purchased a home in Lakewood. Carroll was a life member of Wild West Post #91 VFW, as well as AMVETS Post #1. He was well known with his woodworking hobby, making light houses, clocks and many other beautiful items. His many friends and neighbors always knew that Carroll never knew the meaning of "no" when asked for his help. He was preceded in death by his 3 sons, Kenneth, David and Colin, and a sister, Alice McCutcheon. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Doris, a sister, Grace Little in Mt. Vernon, OH, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be Thursday, 3:00pm, Mt. View Garden Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Tacoma Humane Society or the Salvation Army. Charlotte M. Douglas
Charlotte M. Douglas, 66, passed away January 18, 1998 after a battle with cancer. She was a home maker and enjoyed numerous hobbies, such as bowling, gardening, quilting and other crafts. Charlotte's favorite pastime was going to Reno and playing the "Slots". Survivors include her husband, Barney; children, Rick Douglas and Grant Marsh, both of Anchorage, Alaska, Glen Marsh of Bellingham, Cathy Marsh of Bellevue; 9 grandchildren; 3 sisters and one brother. Family suggests memorials to Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH, PO Box 154, Gig Harbor 98335. Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM in Piper-Morley-Mellinger Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Piper-Morley-Mellinger Funeral Directors, (253) 472-3353.

D. "Burke" Hinshaw
D. "Burke" Hinshaw, 56, of Enumclaw, died Jan. 16, 1998. He was born in Seattle, April 9, 1941 to Helen and Duane Hinshaw. He was a 1959 graduate of Enumclaw High School and an alumnus of the TKE Fraternity at Whitman College in Walla Walla. He was the Co-owner of Hinshaw's Honda in Auburn and an avid motorcycle enthusiast. People enjoyed being with him because of his positive attitude and outgoing personality. He loved his family and especially his 7 grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Randi; son Chuck; daughters Kellee Rochester and Noel Rasmussen; grandchildren Jessica, Charesse, Michael, Douglas, Hailey, Mollie and Niko; father Duane; brother Paul; sister Gayl Hinshaw; and his Macaw, Buddy, who is still calling his name. Services to be held at Weeks' Whitmore Funeral Home in Buckley, WA, 2:00 pm, Friday, Jan. 23, 1998. Visitation Thursday, 4-8 pm.

Donna Jane Boothe
Jan. 23, 1949 - Jan. 17, 1998
Donna was born in Glasgow, MT to Lu Benzinger and the late Harry Benzinger. She grew up in Malta, MT, with her three sisters and a brother. She graduated from Malta High School as class valedictorian in 1967 and continued her education at Concordia College. She received her Bachelor and Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Washington. She then dedicated her working career to the American Lake Veterans Administration in Lakewood, WA. Donna married Ron Boothe, and with this union they were blessed with their only daughter, Lyndi Ronica. Lyndi was always the light of Donna's life. She was her supportive strength as she battled Multiple Sclerosis for many years. She later married Gene Brown. They enjoyed many outdoor activities, including camping and sailing. They enjoyed 6 years together. Her joys in life were Lyndi, her dog D.D., chocolate, Johnny Cash, Coke, playing cards, music, reading, Jeopardy, church activities and her many friends. Donna is survived by her daughter, Lyndi Boothe (Tacoma, WA); her mother, Lu Benzinger (Malta, MT); her sisters, LouAnn Benzinger (Pima, AZ), Kari Opheim (Glasgow, MT), and Patty Fleming (Billings, MT); her brother, Lee Benzinger (Laurel, MT). A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Lakewood, WA, on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 at 11:00 AM. Donna and family members have requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the M.S. Society. Donna's passion for life and her tremendous strength will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched.We love you! Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Florence Womack Cate
Florence Womack Cate died in her sleep Thursday, January 15, 1998. She was 104. Florence was born in Sheridan, CA, to George and Annetta (Lipscomb) Womack on September 25, 1893. She is the only surviving sibling in a family of 2 boys and 4 girls. She met Horatio C. Cate at a dance and they were married in 1909 and had 2 daughters. She was widowed in 1929. Mrs. Cate worked in Sacramento as a physician's assistant and was active in the Rebekah Lodge, the Native Daughters of California, and the Order of Eastern Star. She moved to Tacoma in 1971. She is survived by her daughters, Bevereley C. Chamness, of University Place, WA and Maxine Callister, Sacramento, CA; 4 grandchildren, 7 living great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Tacoma Lutheran Home on Friday, January 23 at 1:30 pm, 1301 Highlands Parkway N.; followed by a private inurnment at New Tacoma Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Tacoma Lutheran Home.

Frank Gennai Sr.
Born Sept. 6, 1916 in Tacoma, WA,
Frank Gennai Sr. passed away Jan. 16, 1998 at St. Joseph Hospital, Tacoma, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, James George Gennai and Jennie M. Gennai. A lifelong resident of Tacoma, WA, Frank retired from the Heidelberg Brewery 19 years ago. He is survived by one brother, Albert Gennai and his wife, Inez of Fircrest, WA; two sisters, Burnett Davis of Graham, WA, Gina Johnson and husband Paul of Tacoma, WA; two sons, Frank Gennai Jr. and wife Marion of Yelm, WA, George Gennai and wife Arlene of Ocean Shores, WA; one daughter, Delores Gates and husband Ronald of Tacoma, WA; two adopted sons, David and Dan Gennai of Puyallup, WA; one nephew, Warren Davis of Graham, WA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998 at 11:00 am in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

James L. Clark
James L. Clark passed away Dec. 28, 1997 after a long battle with heart disease and diabetes. He was born in Florida on Dec. 18, 1947. A graduate of Renton High School, he worked at Sumner National Auto, where he was an Asst. Manager. He worked there for 11 years; he wasn't just an employee, he was a true friend. He resided in Eatonville, WA, with his significant other and her family for 7 years. He was a great inspiration to everyone who knew him, and a very strong-willed person. For everyone who knew him and who was close to him, we will all miss him very much. Surviving relatives: son and daughter, Bret and Michelle Clark; sister Leslie Johnson and family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a heart or diabetes association.

Jewell E. Kellogg
Jewell E. Kellogg, 74 years young, died peacefully in her Puyallup home on January 16, 1998. She was born in Anaconda, MT. September 25, 1923. She moved to Puyallup in 1968 from Olympia where she was the owner of Myna Mobile Mart. She belonged to Spanapark Eagles Auxillary #3563 and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survived by son, Ronald W. Paige, of Puyallup, daughter-in-law Christine, granddaughter Jewell Marie, and great-grandson David. And many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by family and friends. On her wish there will be no services. Remains will be in her final resting place at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Butte, Montana.

Lela Bess Barnette, 77, of Sequim, died Jan. 16, 1998. Born Sept. 10, 1920 in New Mexico to Charles Edgar Mann and Hattie Daisy Boyd. She was a school teacher for 22 years, 3 years in Tacoma.. She moved to Sequim 12 years ago. Preceded in death by husband David Barnette, and daughter Candis Elmore. She is survived by son Boyd Barnette, CA; daughters Sharon Larsgaard, Sumner, and Krista O'Connor, CA; sisters Larue White, OH, Janice Gettys, TX; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 18 in Sequim. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Clallam County, PO Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA.
