Donna M. Miller
March 29, 1941 - September 6, 2001
Donna, 60, passed away peacefully September 6 at Tacoma General Hospital after a brave fight against lung cancer. She was born to Claude and Caroline Johnston in Hamilton, Montana, the youngest of eleven children. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Miller, and brothers Alvin Johnston, Dorrance Johnston and Claude Johnston, Jr. She resided in Tacoma/Puyallup for the past 34 years. She attended school in Stevensville, Montana and later Clover Park Technical in Tacoma. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Payless Drug in Spanaway, Stan’s Pharmacy in Spanaway and Fred Meyer’s in Tacoma. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Roger; her daughter Dawn Ault, presently living in Japan; and her five grandchildren: Brandon, Nicholas, Ashley, Aaron and Rachel. Her surviving brothers and sisters are: William Johnston, Albert Johnston, Lawrence Johnston, Charles Johnston, June Phythian, Janet Reynolds, and Elva Johnston. At Donna’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the charity of your choice. She will be missed but not forgotten by those who loved her. Richard Lani DesChane
Richard Lani DesChane, born March 29, 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on Saturday, September 8th in Gig Harbor. Richard served his country honorably in the Navy during Vietnam and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 21 years, Delores DesChane; daughter, Nichole Galloway of Seattle; son, Marc Galloway of the U.S. Navy on assignment in Spain; sister, Pat Ricketts of Tacoma; brother, David DesChane of Toledo; step-daughter, Roxanne Olson of Gig Harbor; step-son, Rick DeTarville of Tacoma and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving brother, Darryl DesChane; and his father and mother, Marcus and Leone DesChane. A Memorial Gathering for family and friends to honor Dick will be held at step-daughter Roxanne Olson’s home on September 14, 2001 at 1:00. Arrangements by Haven of Rest.

Rudolf L. Marx Sgt. Mjr. US Army (Ret.)
Rudolf Marx, 76, passed away September 8, 2001 with his family by his side. Rudy went to join his wife Irene and son Matthew, leaving behind a son, Michael, and three daughters, Mary, Melinda and Marcia; his brother Frank and his sister Mary; also grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 1:00pm Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Shirlee Mae Blakeley
Shirlee Blakeley, born February 4, 1936 in Logan, Utah, passed away September 8, 2001 in Orting. Shirlee worked many years in food service for the Orting School District. She was loved by the children and known as “Grandma”. She is survived by her loving husband, Gaylon W. Blakeley; son Robert W. Blakeley; daughters Terri L. Blakeley, Patricia M. Gregory; sisters Ethel Collier, Stella Hammond, Janice Martinez and Georgeanne Asher; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 15th, 1 p.m. at the Orting Elementary School Lunch Room. Arrangements by Tuell- McKee Funeral Home, 272-1414.

Shirley Mae Huber (Lones)
Shirley, 71, affectionately known as "Grammie", "Day Mom" and "Uncle Mamma", born Sept. 9, 1929 in Tacoma, WA, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 7, 2001. Shirley was married for 53 years to Robert Huber. She is survived by her husband Bob and sons Todd Huber (Noni) and Scott Huber; 2 grandsons, Dayne and Tyler; sister Jo-Ann Marsh (Hugh) and brother Robert Lones. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved traveling, spending winters in Mesa, AZ and family gatherings. She loved her home on Tule Lake, her flowers, decorating and setting a stunning table. Shirley was an open, warm and caring person without an enemy in the world. Special friends include Sandee Mahoney, Betty Weller, Laine Heinricks, Stacia Marshall, Mabel Lavagnino, and little boys Chase and Connor Marshall. A memorial service will be held at Mt. View Garden Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to the Franciscan Hospice, 1717 So. J Street Tacoma, WA 98405. Vera L. Zittel
Vera L. Zittel, 77 years old, of Tacoma, passed away on September 8, 2001. She was born in Seattle, but had lived most of her life in Tacoma after her marriage to Nicholas. Vera enjoyed working in her garden, family picnics in the Northwest and card parties with neighbors and friends. She was an active supporter of her children and her grandchildren’s sports activities and her husband’s organizations such as the Tacoma Poggie Club, Pierce County Sports Council and the Washington State Sports Council. She was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Tacoma. She is survived by her four children: Richard (Kathleen) Zittel of Bremerton, Edward (Connie) Zittel of Tacoma, Kathy (Dan) Mallea of Beaverton, Oregon and Mary (Greg) Stoll of Seattle, and 10 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1993. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 13, 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, September 12, 7:00 p.m. at 1002 South Yakima Avenue Chapel. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Family suggests memorials be made to St. Charles Building Fund. Arrangements by Gaffney Cassedy Allen and Buckley King Funeral Home.

Virgil Edward Wooldridge
Virgil Edward Wooldridge, 71, died Friday, September 7, 2001 after battling cancer for three years. Born in Bronaugh, MO, July 25, 1930. He was a Carpenter by trade and for the last few years prior to retirement worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Carlton Plaza Apartments of Kansas City, MO. Baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness over 60 years ago. He enjoyed his activity in the ministry, serving last in the Jefferson Park Congregation of Tacoma. He became a resident of Tacoma three years ago. He is survived by 2 daughters, Amy Seibert (John) and Rebekah Wooldridge; 1 son Matthew Wooldridge and 3 grandchildren of Kansas City, MO; 2 brothers, Glenn Wooldridge of Moundville, MO and Ralph Wooldridge of Tacoma, WA; 2 sisters, Elsie Van Gundy of Kent, WA and Ester Nelson of Collinsville, OK; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Virgil requested no services or flowers.

Walter Grylls was born Nov. 28, 1918 and passed away Sept. 6, 2001. Survived by mother Bernice Grylls, daughter Victoria (Vickey) Sapienza, sons Maurice Grylls Sr. and Gordon Grylls, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Walter A. Blauvelt
Walter, 94, passed away Sept. 9, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. Survived by his wife of 69 years, Erma Dean Blauvelt; daughter Joyce Arnold (Richard) of Tacoma, WA; son Richard Blauvelt (Virginia) of Thorne Bay, Alaska; grandchildren, Douglas, Terry, Shari, Wally, Kathy; and great-grandchild Cheri. Walter retired from the Tacoma News Tribune after 36 years of faithful service. During the war he was a deep sea diver for Civil Service. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping mink and muskrat. A graveside service for Walter will be on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001 at Mt. View Memorial Park at 2:30 PM. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584- 0252.

William J. Finnegan (Candyman)
William J. Finnegan (Candyman) left us Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at home with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marlis, of 48 years; children Connie, Patricia and Michael; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; brother Jay Finnegan and sister-in-law Marlene of Pittsburgh, PA. He was loved by all and will be missed very much. He loved Sport TV, but mostly took pride in his yard and garden. Bill joined the Army, served in the Korean War as part of the Ski Patrol in Alaska from 1948 to 1952. He was trained how to ski on Mt. Rainier. Bill retired from Civil Service and was known for his many years as a bartender. He was a member of Amvets Post #5 and a former member of the Elks Lodge. “Candyman” was known as a very generous man who asked for nothing in return. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

William B. Dearborn
Bill Dearborn, 83, Seattle-Tacoma native, passed away on Friday, 9/7. He was reunited with his wife, Mary, sister Virginia, mother Josephine Lyon and father, Walter. His sense of humor and generosity will be greatly missed. He had a positive influence on many lives through his significant community service activities. He served as President or Chairman of Rotary Int’l Tacoma, United Way Pierce County, Diabetes Assn. Pierce County, Boys & Girls Clubs Tacoma, Seniors Against Crime and several others. He was also a Board Memeber of numerous community and business organizations. He retired in 1983 after more than 30 years from Washington National Gas (Puget Energy). He is survived by his five children, Sandy Braun of Placerville, CA; John Dearborn of Santa Monica, CA; Dawn Johnson of Alamo, CA; Barbee Dearborn of Lynnwood, WA and Elizabeth “E.J.” Batchelder of Chicago, IL; and six grandchildren, Martin Braun of CA, Travis and Rebecca Johnson of CA, Christopher Peterson of Boston, MA, Alexis Dearborn of Hanford, NH and Rachel Dearborn of Santa Monica, CA. A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood, WA at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, 9/11/01. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to United Way Pierce County or Rotary Int’l Tacoma.

Louise Helen Robbins
Born Louise Helen McGovern on July 5, 1924 to Dr. William P. and Helen R. McGovern in Tacoma, Washington, Louise passed away on Friday September 7, 2001. Louise graduated from Stadium High School and attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. She was a past President of the Junior League of Tacoma (1962-1963) and a member of the Edward A. Rich Orthopedic Guild. She was also a past member of the Tacoma Golf and Country Club as well as the Tacoma Lawn and Tennis Club. Louise was married for seventeen years to Dr. Ronald F. Robbins with whom she had four children, and they were the loves of her life. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dr. William C. McGovern, Louise is survived by her children - Susan Kimbel (Roy), John Robbins, Paul Robbins (Becky), and Ann Bowlby (Dennis), four grandchildren - Rachael, Jennifer, Kelsy, and John Philip, and great grandson Robbie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bettye McGovern. Louise loved family gatherings, and especially Thursday "wine night" with her children and grandkids. She also enjoyed her many bridge groups, reading, summers at Fox Island, and lunching with her friends. But more than anything else, time spent with her family was what she loved. A memorial service for Louise will be held at the New Tacoma Cemetery, Chambers Creek Chapel, on Thursday, September 13, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Louise's memory to the American Diabetes Association (ADA 557 Roy Street Lower Level, Seattle, WA 98109.)

Glenda M. Goodridge
Glenda Goodridge was born May 1, 1926 in Bath, Maine. She passed away Sept. 8, 2001 in her home in Tumwater. After traveling with her husband’s military tour of duty for many years, they settled in Tacoma. Glenda, a homemaker and master gardener, enjoyed flowers, fishing, boating and traveling in the family’s motor home with her husband. She was a member of the Gig Harbor Flower Garden Club. She is preceded in death by her children Jeannie and Rodney. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert; sister, Betty; brother, Gilbert and granddaughter, Jennifer. She will be greatly missed. Memorial services are 1 PM, Wed., Sept. 12, 2001 in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Donations may be made in the memory of Glenda to the American Heart Assoc., 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.
