ETHEL (SISK) SCHOTT

July 1, 1924-January 29, 2002

Ethel (Sisk) Schott passed away quietly in her son's Port Angeles home Monday surrounded by members of her family. A memorial service will be held at Independent Bible Church this Saturday, February 2, at 2:30 p.m.

Ethel was a creative, competent and independent woman. She loved life and she loved doing for herself. She had an incredible personal history that declares what a remarkable woman she was. She was a logger, a waitress, a carpenter, a seamstress, a college student, a jewelry artist, and a mother of four wilderness-reared, life-enriched and happy adult children. She's been widowed three times, served her community in a number of volunteer ways and was loved by all she met.

Born in Los Angeles, Calif., on July 1, 1924, Ethel's given name was Ofelia Espalin Molina. She was enrolled in school as Ethel due, in part, to her Mexican mother's inability to speak English. She was known as Ethel ever since.

During WWII, she was a riveter on Lockheed bombers, where she met and married Oscar Sisk, a tail-gunner on one of the aircraft. Oscar died in a logging accident in 1964. Years later, Ethel married George Marsh, the proprietor of Glacier Gold. She was widowed once again and later married John Arthur Schott of Lake Crescent. He died in 1992.

The last few decades of Ethel's life were full of volunteering and doing for others. She hand-sewed thousands of finger puppets for Children's Hospital, served in the Elks Emblem Club, and until a stroke prevented her from driving, she volunteered by driving shut-in elders to and from their appointments.

She loved old movies, Elvis Presley's gospel music, reading poetry to her children, sewing and singing ``Que sera sera."

She is survived by two sons, Oscar Sisk of Silverdale and Jim Sisk of Port Angeles, and by two daughters, Linda Cawyer and Nina Kelt both of Sequim. She has 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She has an extended family of sisters, a brother, and their children, most of whom live in the Los Angeles, Calif. area.

In the way of memorial gifts, Ethel would have preferred a kindness shown to someone in need. Flowers are great and gifts to Children's Hospital or Hospice in her name would be appreciated memorials, but Mom was a doer and a leader by example. Do something kind for someone. She would have liked that.

In the last hours that she was with us, two deer came out of the woods and were feeding just outside the window. It added to the quiet and peaceful manner in which she departed.

Mr. Beebe was also a member of Astara.

On April 19, 1992, he married Alice Richmond-Bromley in Gold Hill, Ore.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Beebe's survivors include his sons, Robert L. Beebe of Hanford, Calif., and James L. Beebe of Silverdale, both of whom are on active duty with the Navy; parents and brother Kenneth L. Beebe, all of Sequim; and two grandchildren.
