Marjorie A. Huso

Marjorie A. Huso, age 80, died March 03, 2003.

Marjorie was born in Steele County, ND and was a long time resident of the Lynnwood area.

She is survived by her daughter Janine of Seattle; and sisters Gladys Speer of Seattle, Judith Sorlien of Finley, ND, Marcella Clemens of Bellevue, and Frances Flynn of Fargo, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon; and son John.

The Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 13th at 7:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3215 Larch Way, Lynnwood.

Martha Elizabeth Murray Moll Schlageter

Martha E. Moll Schlageter died April 2, 2003 at Bethany Nursing Home in Everett, WA.

Martha was born February 13, 1915 to Lucy and Percy Murray, the youngest of six with five big brothers. She was a long time resident of Napa, CA and active in volunteer work, senior housing, Eastern Star, and Beta Sigma Phi activities. She moved back to Washington in 1995 and lived in Edmonds and was active at the Senior Center, Eastern Star, Happy Huggers, Friends of the Library, and her sorority activities. In 2001 she moved to Silver Lake and resided there until her death.

She is survived by two daughters; three granddaughters, one grandson; eight great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers; and two granddaughters.

At her request there will be a family only memorial service.

Maxine Margaret Fadden

Maxine Margaret Fadden, 73, of Startup, WA died April 3, 2003 in Startup.

She was born July 18, 1929 in Startup and lived there her entire life. She married Aaron Fadden on December 8, 1946 in Sultan. They had two children, Mike and Lynn, whom she adored. Maxine worked for Roesler Timber Co. in the shake and shingle mill for many years. Aaron and Maxine started their own shake mill, Twin Cedar Shakes, in the 1970's and were in business about 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to lunch and dinner with friends, working on her yard, reading, watching football and Mariner's games. She will be missed by family and friends......whose lives she touched.

For over 25 years, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Cascade Aerie 2327 of Monroe, WA.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron; her sister, Evelyn Hill; and her father, Jake Walcker.

Survivors include her mother, Maggie Walcker of Startup, WA; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Dana Fadden of Sultan; daughter, Lynnette Tjepkema of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren, Christopher and Joanie Fadden of Sultan, David and Colleen Fadden of Monroe, WA, Aaron Tjepkema and Larisa Wonhoff of Monroe, Joseph Tjepkema of Monroe; and great granddaughter Taylor Fadden of Monroe.

Services will be held at Purdy & Kerr Funeral Home, Monroe, WA 98272 on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Sultan Fire Department.

Mildred A. Lightner

Mildred A. Lightner, age 88, passed away at home on March 31, 2003 in Everett, WA. She was born in Henry City, MO on November 13, 1914 to Joe and Jessie Williams. Although Mildred was trained as a professional beautician, she became a skilled cake decorator after marriage to Howard Lightner, who owned and managed several bakeries in the Portland, OR and Henderson, NV areas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, 2 sisters Fern and Ethel and 2 brothers, Tilford and Raymond. Mildred is survived by her son, Larry Lee Lightner of Everett; two grandchildren, Larry Lee Jr., and Lisa; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Shirley Perkins and Wilma Olson and numerous nieces and nephews.

No services at her request.

Arrangements entrusted to Evergreen Funeral Home, Everett.

Norman Harold Brand

Norman Harold Brand, born April 30, 1923 in Alberta, Canada, died March 9 in Grapevine, TX.

A devoted and beloved brother, husband, father and grandfather, Norm was preceded in death by his wife, the former Garna Ellen Spencer of Everett; his brothers Jerry and Marsh of Everett; and by sister Faye of Anchorage, Alaska.

Norm is survived by his daughter, Jane Wilson of Christchurch, New Zealand; Jane's husband Guy and by his two grandsons, Gus and Spencer Wilson. He is also survived by his son Bob, of Dallas, TX; Bob's wife Carol and by his three granddaughters, Emily Peter –and husband Philip, Sara Brand and Melissa Brand. Norm also leaves behind beloved sisters-in-law, Mary Brand; Lucibelle O'Grady; and Maribeth Petrino along with nieces, Sandy Hayes; Marlene Day; Carla Sheppard; Sheila Raymond; Rosemary Easter; Beth Vandenbrink; and Kay Pisano, and nephews Jim Brand; Steve Brand; Spencer O'Grady and Warren Coulter. He also leaves behind the families of those mentioned above along with countless friends from around the country whose lives he touched over the years.

Norm grew up in Everett and attended Everett H.S., where he excelled in both academics and athletics – starring on the football and baseball teams. He attended St. Martin's College in Olympia and, following the outbreak of WWll, Norm attended Naval officer training programs at Gonzaga University, Columbia University and Harvard. He was commissioned as an Ensign and served his country on several ships in the Pacific.

Following the war, Norm began a long and successful career in government service that spanned more than 30 years and culminated in his being awarded with the "Distinguished Government Career Award" – a medal that he proudly displayed until the day he died. Upon retirement, Norm spent several years consulting with government contractors until the poor health of wife Garna required his full time attention.

Despite being in poor health for the past several years, Norm's ability to enjoy life was an inspiration to his family and friends. His unfailing smile and positive attitude remained constant until the end. He was adored and revered by his family and respected by his friends. Norm will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on with those he loved.

A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home on Sunday, April 13th at 2 p.m.

Roland G. Surdyk

Roland Surdyk, 60, of Snohomish, died March 30, 2003.

He was born on October 20, 1942 in Everett, WA. Roland was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a long time member of Snohomish Central Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; two sons, Brian, and Bill and spouse Missy; daughter Gayleen and spouse Malcolm; six siblings, Darlene, Lyle, Kenneth, Laura, Mary Sue, and Dale; and five grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at Snohomish Central Christian Church on April 5th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospive of Snohomish County. God bless all of his family and friends.

Tim E. Ossinger

Tim E. Ossinger, 54, of Snohomish, died peacefully in his sleep April 4, 2003 at home.

He was born July 12, 1948 in Seattle, and has been a resident of Snohomish County for the past 15 years. Tim was a Sergeant with the King County Sheriffs Dept., retiring after 20 years of service. He was known for his love for his family, friends, and his wonderful sense of humor.

He was the loving father of Daran, of Washington, DC and Ken, of Seattle; beloved son of June Ossinger Bunce, of Snohomish; beloved brother of Jan Jorgensen, of Snohomish, and Dick Ossinger and wife Dee, of Port Susan; and leaves many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Ossinger.

In keeping with his wishes, private family services will be held. Cremation arrangements under direction of Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish. Memorials are suggested to Snohomish District Fire Dept. Aid Car Fund.

Vern Casper Bendixsen

Vern C. Bendixsen, age 85 passed away peacefully at his son's home in Walla Walla with his family at this side on April, 4, 2003.

He was born August 27, 1917 in Alexander ID. He served in the Philippines in the US army during World War II. He had a successful career as a Furniture Manufacture Representative. After retiring in 1986, Vern and his wife Genevieve spent time traveling throughout the country in their motor home.

Family, traveling and church service were his main enjoyments.

He is survived by his daughter Kristen Bendixsen; son Dennis (Lanette) Bendixsen; two sisters; three brothers; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Woods Funeral Home, Idaho Falls, ID. Interment will follow at Fielding Memorial Cemetery.

Arthur (Art) Sunde

Art Sunde of Everett, born June 6, 1918 in Everett, died May 4, 2003. Services are pending at this time.

Doris Mary Hughto DeWees

Sept. 19, 1922 - May 3, 2003

Our Mom was and always will be our hero. Mom was born in Brushton, New York, and graduated from high school in Alburg, Vermont. She graduated from Nurses Training at Barton-Hepburn Hospital in New York. Mom enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1943 and served in the Philippines, where she met and fell in love with our Dad, Captain Melvin "Dee" DeWees. Dad preceded her in death in 1969. Doris DeWees was an owner and administrator of Colby Manor Nursing Home in Everett from 1964 until 1992. Mom had a special gift for caring for the elderly and earned an excellent reputation in her business. Her selfless acts of love and kindness encouraged her nurses and staff. Mom traveled extensively after retirement and involved herself in her church, St. Pius X, in many projects, guilds and activities. Her life also centered around her family: Mary Janda, husband John and children Jenny, James, Caleb, Mary Jo and Angela; Leann Jacobson-Coon, husband Richard and children Cara and Rebecca; Joannie DeWees, Paul DeWees and wife Lisa. She also had two great-grandchildren, Brent and Neely. At the time of Mom's death she was surrounded by her family as she was welcomed into God's Kingdom.

The Rosary will be said Wednesday, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 - 5th Ave. S., Edmonds. 425-771-1234. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 22209 - 58th W., Mountlake Terrace. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Beck's.

Memorials may be made in her name to Evergreen Cancer Center or Evergreen Hospice.

Dorothy Hester

Dorothy was born the fourth child of Jake and Elsie Baker of Troy, Wisconsin on October 13, 1919, and she passed away on May 3, 2003 with her husband and daughters nearby.

As a young woman, Dorothy moved to the Chicago area to become a nanny. Dorothy married Ernest Rose on October 7, 1938, and had three daughters, Nancy and husband Frank Zellerhoff of Vashon Island, Sharon and husband Greg Morris of Everett, and Suzanne Pia-Rose and husband John Pia of Anahola, Hawaii. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Peter, Jack, Chuck, and Debbie Morris, Frank and Colleen Zellerhoff, Teresa King and Julie Danzer. Dorothy married Ben Hester on July 10, 1971, and gained a son with this marriage, Ron Hester and wife Kerry, and their two children, Ken and Kyle. She also enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her nine great-grandchildren.

During her life, Dorothy enjoyed a great many activities as well as several organizations. She was actively involved in the Culinary Union, later becoming the business agent in Northern Snohomish County, was a Campfire leader for her daughter's troop, worked for the democratic Party, attended several Democratic Party Conventions, and had been a member of the Assistance League of Everett.

When Dorothy married Ben, an entire set of new activities moved into her life. She started riding a motorcycle and snowmobile, and did a great amount of traveling in their motor home. Another favorite pastime was working in her vegetable garden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601-7633, or to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 500, Everett, WA 98201.

The memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA.

Edwin Walter Dressel

"K7AND"

Edwin Walter Dressel was born to Edwin and Hazel Dressel on July 3, 1924 in Seattle, WA.

He spent his youth in the City of Seattle where he met and married the love of his life, Mildred Kell, on December 19, 1941. He served in the Merchants Marines during WWII.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen.

The things he loved most were his family, HAM radio and Puget Sound.

He is survived by wife, Mildred Dressel; daughters, Barbara and Elfie; granddaughters, Lisa (Lisa bug), Kara (Pooder), Jaelle and April; grandsons, Ken and Matt; great-grandchildren, Eddie, Eric and Christopher, Alex and Kassie.

Services will be held on May 8, 2003 at 1:00pm at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Ave., Marysville, WA.

He will be missed by all who loved and knew him, but now he is with the big HAM in the sky. 73s and 88s to you.

Elwood D. Mortrud

Elwood D. Mortrud, age 72, passed away Friday, April 25, 2003 in Everett, WA. He left us suddenly and will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father Clarence, and daughter Sharon.

He is survived by his loving mother Helen; his brothers David and Gerard; his children, Linda, Allan, Scott, Brenda, Gail, Valerie, Dawn, Eric, Shauna, and Jason; 24 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services and burial were held at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills on Saturday May 3, 2003.

Frances B. Estrada

Frances Borrego Estrada passed away peacefully at home May 2, 2003.

She is survived by three children; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was born July 5, 1927 in Sydney, Montana. She moved with her family to Los Angeles, CA at age three. She graduated from Garfield High School in Los Angeles in 1945. At age 23, she married James William Estrada and raised three children. The family moved to Everett in 1969.

Frances loved her family, friends and took an active interest in meeting new people.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Frances wished to express her gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Everett Clinic Center for Cancer Care and Hospice of Snohomish County.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice.

At her request there will be no memorial service.

Frank Mardon, Jr.

Frank Mardon, Jr., 67, of Kirkland, passed away on May 2, 2003.

He was born on November 28, 1935 in Marysville, WA to Frank and Dorothy (Thorsen) Mardon. He grew up and attended local schools in Marysville, before joining the U.S. Army in 1954. After getting out in 1956 he spent a short time as a jazz drummer before beginning a long career in the grocery industry, retiring in 2000. He had a life long love of jazz music, and enjoyed computers, politics and problem solving.

He is survived by his sons, Brian (Shelley) Mardon of Olympia and Sean Mardon of Marysville; daughter, Catherine (Glenn) Miller of Mukilteo; brother David (Jan) Mardon of Kirkland; grandchildren, Hannah, Chandler, Colton, and Conner; and his special nieces and nephew, Susie, Bill and Merrilee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home in Everett, WA.

Harvey Earl Noble, Sr.

Harvey Earl Noble, Sr., age, 73, died in Seattle after a bravely fought two year battle with cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby, children; Pamela Scott and Harvey Jr. (Butch), granddaughter, Dominique (father, Terrance Scott); sisters; Donna Graddon (Richard), Mary Battles (Bob), Betty Poore; brothers; Robert (Margaret) and Bill; sister-in-law, Kay Noble; aunt Eleanor Loomis; many nieces and nephews; extended families and his beloved dog, "Wee One". Predeceased by his brother, Richard Noble.

Memorial service, Saturday, May 10th, 2003, 1:00pm, chapel at Purdy & Walters with Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036, 425-672-1800.

Remembrances are suggested to either The American Cancer Society or to King County Medic One.

Hugh E. Hartley

Hugh E. Hartley, 78, died on April 28, 2003 at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood, WA.

The Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 9, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Camano Chapel, Camano, Island, WA.

Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, WA.
