Ida Mae Bisnett, 1925 – 2010
Ida Mae Bisnett, of Othello, passed away June 21, 2010, in Troy, Idaho.
She was the first to arrive of twin girls born in Madrid, N.Y., July 3, 1925, to parents Erwin and Dorthia Reynolds.
Family was most important in Ida’s life. It was her greatest love to have family together. It pleased her so much to cook delicious meals and have the table full of guests.
She was known for inviting strangers, soon to become friends, who didn’t have anywhere else to go for dinner and holiday meals. Ida was always reaching out to help anyone in need.
While growing up, she learned the importance of family after losing both of her parents by age 3. Ida and her 12 brothers and sisters were separated and put in foster care until they were old enough to work.
When Ida was a teenager, she joined 4-H. She learned cooking and sewing. She entered canned goods and sewing items in the fair and won enough ribbons to buy her very first brand-new winter coat.
Ida continued sharing these talents throughout her life. While she was young, a storekeeper nicknamed her “Pete.” That name stuck among close family and friends.
Ida married Theodore C. Bisnett July 4, 1943. They lived on the family homestead dairy farm. One day, the milking machine broke and she had to milk 45 cows by hand.
After many years of farming, Ida was hired at Dine-O-Rama in Syracuse. Amazed at her talent in the kitchen and ability working with people she was quickly moved to manager.
She was famous for her “specials of the day” and had customers always coming back for more.
Theodore expressed his desire to move the family to the west. Ida told him he had to have a job and a home before she and the children would move. A short time later, Theodore bought a home in Othello.
Reluctantly, Ida and the children completed their move in 1964. She soon felt at home in Othello and said, “The move was the best thing I ever did.”
Ida worked as a supervisor in the potato industry until her retirement in 1990.
After her retirement, she loved spending time with her senior group, the Retreads of the Othello Church of the Nazarene. She also continued to stay active with countless family and friends.
Ida was preceded in death by all 12 of her siblings, her husband, parents and grandson Donald Henneman.
Ida is survived by her six children Carol (Al) Henneman, of Othello, Bill (Linda) Bisnett, of Warden, Duane (Kathryn), of Othello, Beverly (Dell) May, of Troy, Idaho, Bonnie (Jimmy) Cox, of Diana, Texas, Richard (Lyn) Bisnett, of Warden; 18 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, June 28, at the Othello Church of the Nazarene.

Arthur Gene Johnson, 66, of Vashon Island, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully at home Sunday, June 20, 2010. He died from complications of lung cancer.
Gene was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Portland, Ore., to Arthur Langford and Pauline Jeannette (Poe) Johnson. He grew up with three brothers and a sister, moving throughout the Puget Sound area and Alaska.
Gene graduated from Federal Way High School and spent time surveying with his dad, which led to his employment in 1969 with Metro Engineers.
The company later became Brown and Caldwell Engineers of Seattle, where Gene worked for almost 40 years. Between 1980 and 1984, he held the position of Public Works Director in Othello. While working there, he met the love of his life, Sandra D. Snyder. The two were married March 25, 1978.
During his time in Othello, Gene was a Cub Scout leader, president of the local Lions Club and a member of the Othello Theater Guild, where his artistic talents were put to use constructing and painting beautiful sets.
In 1984, after Gene rejoined Brown and Caldwell, he and Sandra moved to Vashon Island. While on Vashon, he continued his service to the community, eventually becoming scoutmaster of Troop No. 294. As he shared his passion for the outdoors, he inspired others to reach their scouting goals.
If Gene wasn’t exploring the countryside, camping or visiting museums with his wife and children, you would find him working on his wooden scale sailing ships, carriages and airplanes models. His fascination with old barns and trains inspired his photography, paintings and drawings.
Gene cherished the outdoors, whether gardening in the quiet of his beloved yard or camping in the deep forest.
He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Johnson and their children Cindy Piccolo and Sandra Van de Cauter, of Switzerland, Michael Piccolo and Jeremy Johnson, of Seattle, Debbie (Doyle) Pegram, Jackie (Donnie) Miller, Mark (Rhonda) Snyder and Linda Snyder, of Othello, Susan (Craig) Husa, of Fall City, Laura Tabish, of Liberty Lake, and Bret Johnson, of Vashon, Debra Mayer, of Tacoma, Cheryl (Dave) Cox, of Federal Way, and his brothers Mike (Prem) Johnson, of Kent, Robert (Karen) Johnson, of Dallas, Texas, and Dennis Johnson and sister Jeannette Johnson, of Boise, Idaho. Gene was a true gentleman. We will remember his innate kindness, selflessness and patience. We will remember his quick wit and kind words. We will remember the unconditional love and acceptance he gave. Gene actively improved the lives of everyone around him and will forever be present in our hearts.
Remembrances in Gene’s name can be made to Boy Scout Troop 294 on Vashon or the American Cancer Society.
