Paul C. Stradtman

Sept. 8, 1939 -- Jan. 24, 2005

Sequim resident Paul C. Stradtman died at age 65.

Services: Private family services. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, in charge.

Donna Ruth Tobin

Jan. 10, 1924 -- Jan. 16, 2005

Donna Ruth Tobin died of congestive heart failure in Port Townsend at age 81.

She was born in Wadena, Minn., to Edward Whitney and Florence Dorothea (Griebenow) Murray.

When she was a teenager, the family moved to California, where she lived in the San Francisco Bay area.

She married Homer Howard Tobin in Hampton, Va., on July 26, 1951.

In 1974, she, her husband and son, Brian, moved to Port Townsend.

She was organist at the Lutheran Church for many years, then organist at First Presbyterian Church until her retirement. She was also a choir member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed gardening, stitchery and music.

Mrs. Tobin, who was a member of Admiralty Inlet Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, also enjoyed American history, genealogy and reading.

Survivors include her husband, son David Murray Tobin, son and daughter-in-law Brian Paul and Becky Tobin, daughter and son-in-law Dorothea Marie and Ray Anthony Bates, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: Saturday, Jan. 29, 3 p.m., memorial, followed by a time of fellowship in First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., Port Townsend. The Rev. Bob Slater will officiate.

Inurnment was in Laurel Grove cemetery. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend was in charge.

Lawrence Stephen `Casty' Castellano

Dec. 20, 1919 -- Jan. 19, 2005

Lifelong Port Townsend resident and musician Lawrence Stephen ``Casty" Castellano has died at age 85.

Mr. Castellano was born to Michael Natale and Laura (Donofrio) Castellano in Port Townsend.

He lived his entire life in Port Townsend, most of those years in his grandparents' farmhouse, and graduated from Port Townsend High School.

He married Hilda Dagbjort Thordarson in Seattle on Oct. 12, 1941.

Mr. Castellano served in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946, first as a gunner on a B-24, then in the Army Band in Mountain Home, Idaho.

He was known and appreciated in Port Townsend for his dance bands from the 1930s through the 1950s, and played ``Taps" for military funerals and events from the time he was 8 years old.

One of his greatest honors came last November when the Elks Lodge No. 317 presented him with a special award for his years of playing ``Taps." He was a lodge member for almost 64 years, and was a past commander and longtime member of American Legion Post 26.

Mr. Castellano was a former Port Townsend City Council member, and attended St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Mr. Castellano, a member of the Teamsters union, retired from Black Ball Freight Service in the mid-1970s. Many local residents still remember him in his striped overalls, wielding his hand truck, sharing the latest local news, or just a fun story.

He and his red GMC delivery truck were a fixture in Port Townsend for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Castellano took pride in their beautiful gardens and award-winning produce, and enjoyed camping and clam digging.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Sharon Castellano of Vacaville, Calif., Steve and Judy Castellano of Miles City, Mont., Gary and Henryetta Castellano of Seattle, and Rick and Carol Castellano of Greenbank; plus seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Services: Saturday, Jan. 29, 2 p.m., the funeral Mass at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, then a private family service at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery.

A celebration of life will be at the Elks Club, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30.

Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DUA V. FEELEY

Feb. 20, 1922-Jan. 14, 2005

Longtime Port Angeles resident Dua V. Feeley passed away at The Springs nursing facility in Bellevue at the age of 82.

Dua was born in Independence (Rochester), Washington, to August and Emma H. (Mattson) Nelson.

She grew up in the Rochester area and graduated from Rochester High in 1940.

After graduation, she moved to San Francisco, fulfilling a dream of living in California. She returned to the Seattle area during World War II, attended a local business college and worked for the Seattle Housing Authority.

In 1946, she married Donald W. Feeley and settled in Port Angeles, where she resided until 1986.

During the years in Port Angeles, she became active with the local art league and pursued her talents with painting. She studied art under Sergei Bongart and attended his summer workshops in Idaho. She also worked with and studied under several other noted Northwest artists.

Dua was active in the community, donating her time and talents to various art projects, including the creation of several large murals depicting the area history.

She also did volunteer work at local nursing homes and the local hospital.

In 1986, Dua and Don relocated to a townhome in Bellevue and resided in the Bellevue and Renton area until their deaths.

Survivors include a daughter, Shawne D. of Bellevue; a son, D. James, of South Ogden, Utah; and brothers Albin of Olympia, Ralph of Sumner and Lloyd of Tacoma.

Also surviving are grandson Jeff Feeley of Zebulon, North Carolina; granddaughters Michele Woodard of Gilbert, Arizona, Laurie Jones of South Wayne, Wisconsin, Wendy Schmidt of Roseburg, Oregon, and Brekk Jones of Issaquah, Washington; and 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

preceded in death by husband Don, sister Alice Nelson and grandson Jacob N. Feeley.

Memorial service on Saturday Jan. 22, 2005, at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 591 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, Washington.

H. Kennith Carter

Jan. 1, 1921 -- Jan. 16, 2005

H. Kennith Carter, DDS, died in Jefferson Healthcare hospital of pneumonia at age 84.

He was born to Richard Ray and Ova Blanche (Tucker) Carter in Hollis, Okla., where he grew up before moving to Longview in 1937.

Mr. Carter served in the Navy during World War II, in 1941-45.

While stationed at Indian Island Naval Station in Jefferson County, he met Tillie Carter, who he married March 11, 1942, in Seattle.

While in the Navy, he was enrolled in pre-dental studies at the University of Washington through the V-2 program.

In 1948, he graduated first in his class at the Northwestern University School of Dentistry, then remained in Chicago for the early years of his dental practice

Dr. Carter returned to military service with the Army during the Korean War in 1951-52, after which he moved to Port Townsend and opened a dental office, from which he retired in 1984.

Dr. Carter was a founder of Jefferson National Bank and MarinerBank.

His extensive civic involvement included recognition as Port Townsend Man of the Year (1954 and 1994); membership in the Chamber of Commerce, 1952-84 (past president); 52-year membership in Kiwanis (past president; winner of George F. Hixon Award); and chairman of the Rhododendron Festival and Parade.

Dr. Carter served on the Port Townsend School Board in 1970-74. He belonged to the American Legion as well as being a life member of the University of Washington Alumni Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Washington State Dental Association (past president) and Elks.

In addition to painting and sculpting, Dr. Carter enjoyed reading nonfiction and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, son and daughter-in-law Bob and Shari Carter and daughter Lyn Ohana, all of Port Townsend; daughter Laurel Lee Miller of Bellevue; daughters and sons-in-law Patricia and Brian Bretland of Camano Island and Melanie and John Holcomb of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Windle Boyce and Lois Carter of Tacoma; brother Lewis Herrold Carter, DDS, of Hoquiam; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brother Earnest George Carter.

Services: Jan. 29, 3 p.m., celebration of life at Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend. Private inurnment was in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.

Dolores Ann Doubleday

July 9, 1934 -- Jan. 18, 2005

Sequim resident Dolores Ann Doubleday died of cancer at age 70.

She was born to Layton Harry and Ellen Lillie (Longan) Wilson in Santa Monica, Calif., and graduated from San Mateo (Calif.) High School in 1952. She also attended San Diego Mesa College and University of California, San Diego,

Although her marriage to William ``Bill" Warner in San Mateo, Calif., on April 7, 1953, ended in a 1961 divorce, the two remained close friends.

On Feb. 11, 1978, she married Gene A. Doubleday in San Diego.

Mrs. Doubleday, who worked in reproduction graphics and graphic design, owned Paragraphics in San Diego before she and her husband moved to Sequim in 1990.

She was a member of Dungeness Community Church and Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Doubleday's survivors include son Steve J. Warner of Reno, Nev.; stepsons Mark W. Doubleday of Spring Valley, Calif., and Donald B. Doubleday of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter and son-in-law Kathy W. and Larry F. Neeley of Reno, Nev.; stepdaughters Melissa M. Logan of Imperial Beach, Calif., and Cecilia Doubleday of San Diego; sister Alice J. Peters of San Carlos, Calif.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by sister Barbara J. Hubby.

Services: Memorial will be announced at a later time. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald H. Judd

Nov. 29, 1919 -- Jan. 16, 2005

Port Angeles resident Donald H. Judd died at age 85.

He was born to Lawrence and Marguerite (Backus) Judd in Grandview and moved to Port Angeles at age 2.

H attended Washington School and Roosevelt High School before graduating in 1937.

In his younger years, he helped his parents operate the Salmon Club clubhouse on Ediz Hook. When his father died during Donald's senior year, he joined his mother and brothers in maintaining the operation.

His lifelong love of fishing, especially for salmon and steelhead, saw him spending hours in a rowboat often getting lost in the fog off Ediz Hook.

In a 1965 interview with Esther Webster for the Port Angeles Evening News, Mr. Judd said: ``We served the Coast Guard personnel while the buildings were under construction, before there was any galley."

On Sept. 6, 1941, he married Gladys Wilde, his high school sweetheart.

In 1943-46, he served in the Coast Guard with weather duty aboard a frigate off Alaska and on a troop transport operating out of the Philippines.

Mr. Judd, who was working as an auto parts boy when he started his lifelong career at Middleton Motor Parts in 1939 with Jess Middleton, retired in 1988 as owner of the company, which operated from Neah Bay to Brinnon.

In addition to being a member of the Washington Automotive Wholesalers Association, he took time to be involved in community activities.

He and his wife went skiing at Deer Park and Hurricane Ridge, and square dancing at Lariat Hall. He was president of two dance clubs and president of the North Olympic Square Dance Council.

He was two-time president of Port Angeles Toastmasters' Club; president of Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce in 1965; and a member of the Civil Service Commission in 1962-67.

In addition to serving as chairman of school bond drives for both construction of the senior high and for its auditorium, he was publicity chairman for the Peninsula College Building Fund and chairman of Business, Labor and Education Days, in which teachers and business people exchanged visits.

In 1960-64, he was an adviser for YMCA boys' groups and, in 1963-66, treasurer of the Republican Central Committee.

He was a past member of Elks Naval Lodge and active member of the First Methodist and Congregational Church.

Mr. Judd also loved golfing.

Beyond serving as a board member and president of Peninsula Golf Club in 1966-67, he continued playing multiple golf games each week until a few years ago.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Laurel Susan and Don Larsen of Maple Valley; daughters and sons-in-law Diane Louise and Marc Fountain and Julieanne Patricia and Gary Ellefson, all of Port Angeles; sister and brother-in-law Lucille and John Lacey of Port Angles; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

His wife died March 21, 1987. He was also preceded in death by brothers Richard and Wesley Judd.

Services: Saturday, Jan. 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitation in Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, immediately preceding the 1 p.m. funeral, which will be officiated by John Cooke, Mr. Judd's nephew-in-law from Bothell.

Burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles.

Memorials: Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
