Wray W. McKinley
Wray W. McKinley, 87, Green Bay, died peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at a local nursing home. Wray was born January 13, 1913 in Hurontown, Mich. to the late Gordon and Martha (Moerhke) McKinley. He married the former Helen M. Hauber on July 2, 1938 in Kenosha, Wis. He worked for 20 years at National Tea Store beginning in Kenosha and concluded the last six years in Shawano as district manager to the State of Wisconsin. For many years, he owned and operated Russ and Wray’s Grocery Store. Wray had also worked for seven years at Paper Converting. Wray enjoyed the time he spent woodworking and fishing with his brother, Bob. Wray’s family will dearly miss him. His sense of humor will be long remembered. Wray was a kind, generous, loving husband, father and grandfather. Though all his pain and suffering he never complained. He fought a tough battle with courage and determination. Wray is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy McKinley-Ehlinger, Milwaukee, Jane and Mike DeMuth of Green Bay; five grandchildren and spouses, Jeff and Lisa De Muth of Janesville, Michelle and Pat VanLieshout of Green Bay, Melissa DeMuth of Green Bay, Nick and Lisa Ehlinger of Spring Green, Martha and Gary Milanowski of Eagle River; four great-grandchildren, Madeline, Ellie, Tessa, and Sophie; special niece and spouse, Denise and Ed Nelson of Kenosha. Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Edwin and one sister, Helen. Friends may call at WEST MASON MALCORE Funeral Home, 1530 West Mason Street, from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of memorial service. Memorial Service Saturday 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Fewell, chaplain for Unity Hospice, officiating.

Walter J. Matuszewski
Walter J. Matuszewski, 80, Suamico, passed away, Tuesday, May 9, 2000. He was born on August 15, 1919 in Minneapolis Minn. tot he late Michael and Stella (Anjewski) Matuszewski. Walter married the former Mary Kaliszak on September 25, 1953 in Oconto. He was a member of the Central Congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and The St. Mary Senior Center. Walter loved gardening, baking, and cooking. He especially enjoyed his two poodles, Cosmo and D.O.G. Survivors include his one daughter and sister-in-law, Shirley (Roger) Van Den Elzen, Howard; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Ray) Jacobs Sheboygan; nine grandchildren, Jan (Greg) Collins, Green Bay, Linda (Grailing) Jones, Suamico, Jim (Joan) Van Den Elzen, Suamico, David (Patti) Van Den Elzen, Pulaski, Tina Rybak and Natasia, Mitchell, Green Bay, Ruth (Tom) Lund, Suamico, Ann Rybak, Suamico, Tim Virbick, Colo., Mark (Sally) Virbick, Nevada; 15 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Margaret Marquardt
Margaret Marquardt, 89, of 1003 Third Street, De Pere, died early Wednesday morning, May 10, 2000 at a local nursing home. The daughter of the late Fred and Louise (Henrikowski) Zirbel was born October 21, 1910 in Green Bay. On June 14, 1933, she married Arthur Marquardt at St. John Lutheran Church, De Pere. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1989. Mrs. Marquardt was very active at St. John Lutheran Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also was involved in Mission Sewing and the Thursday morning Bible Study Circle. Margaret was a proud member of her sewing club, which included friends such as Margaret Carney, Mae Fleck, Mary Thompson, Millie Zinglar, Beatrice Kussow, Helen Huebner, Vera Rae Christensen, Naomi Vaessen, and Lorilea McComb. She was an active member of the community and will be sadly missed. Survivors include her two children and their spouses, James and Betty Marquardt, De Pere; Louise and Jerry Sheahan, De Pere; 5 grandchildren, Phillip (Liz) Sheahan, Colleen (Joe) Wainbauer, Daryl (Lisa) Marquardt, Cathy (Craig) Olson, and Robert Marquardt, 5 great-grandchildren, Krista and Eric Olson, Nick and Joey Sheahan, and Drew Marquardt, one sister; Helen Huebner, De Pere. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Harold Zirbel. Friends and family are invited to call at St. John Lutheran Church, Scheuring Road at Lost Dauphin Road, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. LeRoy Remmers, officiating. Burial to follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, De Pere. The family extends a special thank you to Unity Hospice and the Staff of Oddfellow Nursing Home for all their loving concerns and care for these past months. A memorial fund has been established to the St. John Lutheran endowment fund.
Kenneth D. Kujava
Kenneth D. Kujava, 55, 405 Steven St., died Tuesday, May 16, 2000. He was born March 16, 1945 in Green Bay to the late Anthony and Inez (Reinhard) Kujava. Ken served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, including time in Vietnam. He served on the Advisory Committee at N.W.T.C. for Civil Technology Highway Department. Ken served on the Board of Directors for The Center Project. Survivors include his two children and their spouses, Stephanie and Mike O’Connell, Village of Howard, Jesse and Julie Kujava, Green Bay; a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Euncie Kujava, Green Bay; two grandchildren, Ryan and Quintin O’Connell; his aunt and uncle, Bartely and Doug Allen; two aunts, Evelyn Reinhard and Eileen Kujava; his special friend, Mark Lemmert; and his dog, Boom Boom; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Inez Kujava; and his other aunts and uncles. Friends may call at St. Jude Catholic Church from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Ron Belitz officiating. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
E. Walter 'Wally' Hockers
E. Walter “Wally” Hockers, of 3343 Short Rd., Ashwaubenon, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at a local hospital. Wally was born July 31, 1915, in De Pere, to the late Henry and Mary (Hoks) Hockers. He was a graduate of Nicolet High School. Wally married the former Mary Martin, June 2, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church, Greenleaf. He was a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the 8th Air Force Division and was stationed in Duxford, Cambridge, and South Hampton, England. Wally was then transferred to the 106th Infantry Division Serving in France, Germany, Belgium, and Holland. He owned and operated his dairy farm in the town of Hobart for many years and worked at the Red Owl Warehouse. Wally enjoyed hunting, horses, and riding bikes. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two children, Patricia and Arthur Reiten, Green Bay, Paul Hockers, De Pere; a grandson, Pierce, and a sister, Jane and Dick and Dick Milquet, De Pere; nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and Robert, and a sister, Alma Joseph. Friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church, De Pere, on Friday from 3-6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 6 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Anthony Dolski officiating. Burial in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family.
Arnold A. 'Arnie' Giese
Arnold A. “Arnie” Giese, 75, of Green Bay, died unexpectedly, Monday May 8, 2000, at a local hospital. He was born December 15, 1924, in Green Bay, to the late Gustave and Martha (Herr) Giese. On March 22, 1984, he married Sue Trelfa, in Green Bay. Arnie was well known as the owner of West Shoe Repair for more than 25 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading history books, and working with leather. He enjoyed time spent with his friends at Badger Terrace Apartments playing cards. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Luxemburg. Survivors include his wife Sue; a sister-in-law, Helen Giese; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger and David Giese; and a sister Alma Roebke. Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today, at the funeral home with Rev. A.E. Batiansila of St. Paul Lutheran Church Luxemburg officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Mausoleum. Mrs. Norbert 'Mary C. Denissen'
Mrs. Norbert (Mary C. Denissen), 72, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at a local hospital. She was born March 23, 1928, in Green Bay to the late Matthias and Antoinette (Parins) Denissen. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy where she was an honor student and a member of the Glee Club. On September 22, 1948, she married Norbert Gillis at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Green Bay. She was employed by Fox River Knitting Mills and Wisconsin Public Service before starting her family. Mary was a long time member of St. Mary’s Hospital Mary Guild, a member of the Christian Mothers’ Organization of St. Jude Parish, the A.A. R. P. and her card club. She enjoyed music, playing, cards and games with her family, baking, nature and times spent at Lake Hilbert. Mary dedicated her entire life to her husband, Norbert and raising their children. She always made time to sit and listen to her children and grandchildren, and was known for her great sense of humor, warmth, wit, compassion and her letters of encouragement and strength. She will always be remembered by those whom she made feel loved, welcome and special. She is survived by her husband, Norbert; 17 children and their spouses, Mark and Christine Gillis, Jeffrey and Linda Gillis, Patricia and Randall Schultz, Marianne Reimer, Barbara Gillis Johnson, Theresa and Eric Refsguard, Jean and Robert Pigeon, Andrew and Rachel Gillis, John and Kim Gillis, all of Green Bay; Clare Bader, Manitowoc; Timothy Gillis, Sheboygan; Francis and Carrie Gillis, Fort Collins, Colo.; Joseph and Kristine Gillis, Eagan, Minn.; Thomas and Lisa Gillis, Rockford, Ill.; Christopher and Carolyn Gillis, LaPort, Colo.; Laura Gillis, Milwaukee; Paul and Amy Gillis, Richfield, Minn.; 37 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roman and Agnes Denissen, Peter and Therese Denissen, all of Green Bay; Orland and Elaine Denissen, Springdale, Ark.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Janice and Robert Cavil, Mrs. Vernon (Kathleen) Van Beek, all of Green Bay; Eloise and Richard Mikulsky, Fallbrook, Calif.; four brothers-in-law, Cletus Gillis and his wife, Evelyn, Rhinelander; Kenneth Derouin, Green Bay; Rev. Ralph Gillis Crandon; Alvin Steffel, Denmark; one sister-in-law, Sister Marion Gillis, O.S.F., Kaukauna; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthias and Antoinette (Parins) Denissen; a brother, Matthew Denissen Jr.; two sisters, Fern (Denissen) Derouin and Marie Denissen; and her parents-in-law, Albert and Lillian (De Both) Gillis; one sister-in-law, Mildred (Gillis) Steffel. Barbara Couillard
Barbara Couillard, 62, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, May 14, 2000 at home. Born in Dagget, Michigan, January 22, 1938, she is the daughter of the late Arnold and Viola Johnivan. Barb married her loving husband of 45 years, Robert Couillard in Escanaba, Michigan on June 4, 1955. Bob preceded her in death on May 26, 1997. Barb was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed working at Lindeman’s Cleaners for 19 years and part time for Land, Sea, and Air for 3 years. Barb loved her family and enjoyed country music and her special pets Chico and Tiny. Barb will be sadly missed by her family and all who had the joy to know her. She is survived by, four daughters and sons-in-law: Peggy and Bill Sonnenberg, Green Bay; Esther and Rick Poirier, Texas; Dede and Ed Schultz, Denmark; Grace and Dean Kurkowski, Green Bay; 10 grandchildren; Robert, Rebecca, Ben, Billie Jo (and friend-John); Michael, Christopher, Amanda, Bethany, Ashely, Michaela, and Brandon (Oscar); two great grandchildren; Cheyenne and Johnathan. Barb will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, and great grandchildren; step mother-Lucille Johnivan of Gladstone, Michigan; many brothers and sisters and their families in Michigan. Preceded in death by her parents; husband-Robert, and two brothers - Bobby and Bernie.
