Mary "Mae" Layden, 95, De Pere. Arrangements are pending at Lyndahl Funeral Home.

Alfred W. 'Al' Nys
Alfred W. "Al" Nys, 88, Green Bay resident, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004. He was born on January 26, 1916, in Green Bay to the late Julius and Martha (Karbouski) Nys. On July 24, 1939 he married the late Ethel Renier. Al operated a Sinclair Gas Station on the corner of Roosevelt and East Mason for many years. He was also a foreman for the City of Green Bay Sanitary Engineer Department. Al drove stock cars in the late '40s and early '50s, was an avid bowler and card player. Al served in the U.S. Army from 1945-47 in the U.S. and Honolulu, Hawai. His service earned him the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Al was a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. Al is survived by many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Dave Bass.

In addition to his spouse, Ethel, and parents, Al was preceded in death by one brother, Damian Nys; one sister and brother-in-law, Leona (Clem) Vanden Avond; and one nephew, Dennis Vanden Avond.

Friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John Doefler officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

Mrs. Adam (Regina Zima) Pawelczyk
Mrs. Adam (Regina Zima) Pawelczyk, 91, Green Bay, died Sunday, November 7, 2004. She was born September 5, 1913, in Monessen, Pa., to Martin and Katherine (Sroka) Zima. On Sept. 7, 1935, she married Adam Pawelczyk in Chicago, Ill. They made their home in Krakow for 50 years and were members of St. Casmir Parish. Following Adam's death in Sept. 1991, Regina moved to Green Bay in 1992.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Connie Powell, Bayfield, Michael and Bernadette Pawelczyk, Hortonville, Daniel and Diana Pawelczyk, Woodbury, Minn.; six grandchildren, Cristin Campbell, Adam Pawelczyk, Katie Pawelczyk, Ryan (Talia) Pawelczyk, Jill Pawelczyk, Dana (Caleb) Cleveland; a great-granddaughter, Ava Cleveland; one sister; three brothers, three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Helen Demeny, Stanley Zima, both of Krakow, John and Evelyn Zima, Casey and Claudine Zima, all of Brookside, Eleanor Zima, Krakow, Leroy Karolczak, Milwaukee; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; one son, Jerry; a daughter-in-law, Susan; a grandson, Kyle; her parents; three sisters, Mary Gurke, Judy Karolczak, Margaret Jagodzinski; three brothers, Frank, Joseph and Tony Zima. Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a Parish Wake Service held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may also call at St. Jude Catholic Church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at l0:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Michael Ingold officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established.

The family extends a special thank you to the staffs of Longview Terrace, St. Mary's 5th Floor and ManorCare West.

Donald Schaetz
Donald Schaetz, 86, lifelong resident of Green Bay, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at a local nursing home. He was born Sept. 28, 1918,, in Green Bay to the late Lou and Margaret Schaetz. Donald served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Feb. 14, 1974 he married Henrietta (Lemmen) Raska. For many years he was involved in construction in the Green Bay area. He loved the outdoors especially camping, walking in the woods and parking cars for Packer games.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; his step-children whom he loved and raised as his own, Louis and Paula Raska, Eagle River, Wis.; Pat and Jim Brier, Oneida; Ken Raska and his special friend, Diane, Green Bay; Mary and Paul Lukes, Suamico; Bruce and Debbie Raska, Don Kramer, all of Green Bay; 10 grandchildren, Laura (Steve), Amy, Lynn (Mark), Jesse (Mohamed), Brent (Molly), Randy (Kyong Suk), Dan, Katie, Justin, Corissa; eight great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Lou Schaetz, Green Bay; Bob and Ellen Schaetz, Freedom; Lillian and Don Bouche, Eunice Gerlikowski, all of Green Bay; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter, Susan Kramer; an infant grandson; three sisters, Betty Ault, Marjorie Burt, Agnes Schaetz; two brothers, Orbon and Harold Schaetz.

Friends may call at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.

Don's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of St. Vincent Hospital and San Luis Medical & Rehabilitation Center for all of the wonderful care.

Rev. Harvey Herbert Toonen
Reverend Harvey Herbert Toonen, O. Praem., age 87, a member of the Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey, De Pere, Wis., and a Norbertine priest, passed into God's eternal kingdom on November 8, 2004.

The Reception of the Body/Vespers of the Dead Service will be held at St. Norbert Abbey on Thursday, November 11, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will follow until 9 p.m. and will continue on Friday, November 12, from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Abbey Church on Friday, November 12, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. Rt. Rev. Gary J. Neville, O. Praem., Abbot of St. Norbert Abbey, will preside at the funeral liturgy. A bilingual Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 15 at St. Willebrord Parish in Green Bay at 7 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth J. De Groot, O. Praem. presiding. Burial will be in the St. Norbert Abbey Cemetery.

Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy (Don) Johnson; two sons, Jim (Mary) Barlament, Rick (Jill) Barlament, all of Green Bay; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Robert Scheschi. Daniel Lee Colson, Green Bay. No service will be held. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; four children, Jodi Colson, Green Bay, Shaunna (Joe) Lagory, Cincinnati, Ohio, William (Kera) Colson, Hohenfels, Germany, Charlyne Colson, Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren; six sisters and brothers, Linda Erb, Green Bay, David (Linda) Colson, Aledo, Texas, Darrel (Juanita) Colson, Whitewater, Wis., Margaret (Norbert) Miller, Lake Linden, Mich., Dennis Colson, Whittier, Calif, Dale (Judy) Colson, Racine, Wis. Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., is assisting the family.

Mrs. Peter (Lillian) Filipiak
Mrs. Peter (Lillian) Filipiak, 71, Green Bay, formerly of Strandquist, Minn., passed away at home surrounded by her family on November 7, 2004 after a short and courageous battle with brain cancer. The daughter of the late Peter and Exie (Granger) Mauer, Lillian was born August 20, 1933 in Fergus Falls, Minn. and moved to Strandquist with her family in 1938. She graduated from Strandquist High School in 1952. On September 2, 1952 she married Peter Filipiak in Florian, Minn. In March of 1953 they moved to Krakow, where they had a dairy farm. In 1958 they moved to Pulaski, where she worked at the drug store and at other jobs. She started with Home Interiors & Gifts in 1973 as a displayer, until she retired in 1991 as the senior branch manager. Lillian and Peter sold their home near Pulaski in 2003 to move into Green Bay. Lillian enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling with her husband, Peter, and many dear friends. She also enjoyed dancing to polka music and the Cattle Call, shopping with her daughter, Sharon, and her many girlfriends, visiting her family in Minnesota, but mostly making sure everyone had beautifully decorated walls in their homes. Lillian was a long-time member of SS. Edward & Isidore Church, Flintville.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Peter; two beautiful daughters, Barbara Kolkowski, Sampson, Sharon (Larry) Sell, Green Bay; three wonderful sons, Kenneth, Pulaski, Peter, Jr., Lena Edward (Connie), Suamico; 12 grandchildren, Tammy, Kevin, Holly, Lisa, Amy, Mitchell, Windy, Keith, Bre-anna, Robert, Renee, & Elvis James; one sister, Leona Chwialkowski, Lake Bronson, Minn.; one brother, Walter (Beverly) Mauer, Aurora, Minn.; many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary; one sister, Rosemary.

Friends may call at SS. Edward & Isidore Church, Flintville from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday. Closing Prayer Service 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation continues after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Fr. David Kasperek presiding with burial in the parish cemetery. Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Visiting Nurse Association of Wisconsin and also to all of the people who helped make Lillian comfortable. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Walter W. Hanmann Jr. (Bruder), 68, Casco. Visitation 3-8 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Luxemburg. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home, 107 Wiesner Ave., in Casco is assisting the family.

Bob (Carl Robert) King
Bob (Carl Robert) King, 75, Green Bay. Visitation 4-8 p.m. today at Proko-Wall Funeral Home & Crematory, 1630 E. Mason St., and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 130 Winchester Way. Funeral service 11 am. Wednesday at the church. Survivors include his second wife, Donna; her six children; three daughters, Meredith King, Rosann (David) Hollinger, Laura (Dennis) Belter, and his two sons, Anthony King, and Thomas (Louise) King; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Louis (Ragnhild "Rung") Kramer
Mrs. Louis (Ragnhild "Rung") Kramer, 97, Green Bay. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 330 S. Broadway, Green Bay. Funeral 11 a.m. at the church. Survivors include four nieces, Lois Heike, Millicent Kelly, Jacqueline Jerue, and Mary Ellen Bucholz; two nephews, Richard Broadland and Peter McGregor. Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., is assisting the family.

Norman L. Miller
Norman L. Miller, 91, Oshkosh died at Mercy Medical Center on Sunday, November 7, 2004. He was born on November 25, 1912 in Boardman, Wis. to the late Fred and Louise (Otto) Miller. Later the family moved to Oshkosh. On September 2, 1940 he married Gertrude Schaefer in Sherwood, Wis.

Norman was a sales director for Graf Beverages of Milwaukee. He attended Oshkosh High School and in 1942 enlisted in the U.S. Navy stationed at Great Lakes.

Norman was very interested in community and politics. He was a delegate on the original Conservation Commission and also served on two former governor's Task Force Committees regarding conservation and health care. He served as a member of the Winnebago County Fair Association for several terms, chaired the Oshkosh Board of Appeals Zoning Board and was a volunteer driver for Winnebago County Social Services for more than 10 years. Norm enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gun collecting. He was a life member of Black Wolf Rifle Club, Ripon Rifle & Pistol Club, Springbrook Sportsmen's Club, and a life member of the Red Arrow- 32nd division, and a member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the American Legion Cook-Fuller Post 70. Since 1984 he was president of Central Wisconsin Gun Collectors Association, a non-profit organization.

Norm recalled some of the highlights of his life meeting J.F. Kennedy and Jackie just prior to being elected president of the United States; had a meeting with Art Linkletter, TV personality, and met Commander Whitehead, of England of the British Royal Navy.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gertrude; a niece, Carol Tyers; a nephew, Larry Miller and many special friends he met through the years in the various organizations he was associated with. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold, and a sister, Marion Buettner. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church.

A funeral service will be held at First English Lutheran Church on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chuck Fluegel officiating. Visitation will be at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home- Westside on Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. to the time of service. Entombment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.

"I shall pass through this world once, if therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do, let me do it now-for I shall not pass this way again."

A special thank you to the staff at Mercy Medical Center for their tender loving care, while Norman was there.

Leland (Curley) Rupiper
Leland (Curley) Rupiper, 90, of De Pere, died Sunday evening, November 7, 2004 at a local nursing home. The son of the late Henry H. and Nell (Mennen) Rupiper was born December 3, 1913. On October 27, 1937, he married the former Helen Witte in Turtle Creek, Ind. She preceded him in death on December 19, 1991. Lee owned and operated Rupiper's Tavern and Hotel for over forty years prior to retirement in 1976. Mr. Rupiper belonged to De Pere Knights of Columbus Abbot Pennings Council, and the Brown County Tavern League. He loved to shoot pool and play the drums.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie, and one grandson, Bruce Szprejda. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, and one sister, Delores Nagy.

Relatives and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2004. The rosary will be led at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the funeral procession leaves for church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere with the Rev. Timothy Shillcox officiating.
