Shirley Herman
1928-2008
Shirley L. Herman, 79, of Gilman, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at Gilman Care Center. She was born on October 11, 1928 in Stanley, the daughter of the late Tilmer and Lena (Mahal) Thompson. On December 17, 1966 she married Richard Herman. For many years Shirley worked for Burzynski Insurance in Gilman as a receptionist. She enjoyed flowers, was an avid bowler and especially cherished her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Ted (Susan) Kotlowski of Hudson; three grandchildren, Angela (Kyle) Payne of Woodbury, Minn., Justin (Kimberly) Kotlowski of Wyoming, Minn., and Amanda Kotlowski of Hudson; two great-grandchildren, Jaren and Breanna; and one brother, Harvey (Deanna) Thompson of Danbury. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; and one brother, Roger Thompson.
A time of remembrance was held Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Gilman Funeral Home. Burial was at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman assisted the family with arrangements.

Albert Mravik
1918-2008
Albert S. Mravik, age 89, of Gilman, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls. He was born on October 27, 1918 in Lublin, the son of the late John and Louise (Cervenansky) Mravik. He attended area schools and graduated from Medford High School and Taylor County Normal School. Al taught at Roosevelt School for one year before he joined the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He served during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He also served in the National Guard for over 20 years. After his discharge, he taught on year in Perkinstown.
On May 30, 1946 he was united in marriage to Wilma Jaeger at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Since their marriage they have resided in the Gilman area. Al worked for the Gilman Post Office and served as postmaster until his retirement in 1974. Besides his love for his family, he enjoyed hunting, bowling, going to auctions, antiques and collecting rocks. Al was a member of the Gilman American Legion Post No. 359, the Sheldon VFW, the Lions Club, a former member of the Gilman Community Betterment Association, and the Gilman Fire Department, serving as assistant chief until retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilma of Gilman; their children, Rodger (Mulu) Mravik of Gilman, Linda (Michael) Herrick and Gregory Mravik, both of Siren, and Susan Mravik of Ada, Okla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Valentine (Rosella) Mravik of South Milwaukee and Emil (Dawn) Mravik of Portage. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters and brothers, John and Margaret in infancy, William, Louise, Edward, Frances, Amelia, Julia, Steven and Michael.
A Christian Burial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, with Father John Long officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday one hour prior at the Gilman Funeral Home.

Scott Swanson
1967-2008
Scott Allan Swanson, 41, Rib Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 25. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2 at 11 a.m. at Cesarz, Charapata and Zinnecker Funeral Home in Waukesha. Burial will be at Genesee Cemetery in Genesee. A memorial service in Phillips will be held at a later date.

Elford Neuman
1929-2008
Elford M. Neuman, 79, Medford, died Monday, Nov. 17 at his home. Private family only funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger officiating. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, David and Ricky Dray, Travis Neuman and Joshua and John Frahmann, and great-grandson, Tyler Block.

Irene Rizzi
1918-2008
Irene Evelyn Rizzi, 90, Medford, died Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, under the care of Hope Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Woodland Community Church in Westboro, with Pastor Grant Brown officiating. Interment will be on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake. Please meet at the cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home in Rib Lake on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.
The former Irene Johnson was born October 2, 1918 in Westboro to the late William and Eleanor (Flink) Johnson. She attended Westboro Graded School and was a 1936 graduate of Rib Lake High School.
On June 15, 1938 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in the Town of Greenwood, she married Frank Rizzi, who preceded her in death in 2003. They owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Greenwood until 1969. She also worked at Gem Products in Rib Lake for 17 years and later at the Rib Lake Nursing Home for five years.
She was a member of Woodland Community Church. She enjoyed sewing and upholstering, seamstressing for other people, gardening and doing puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Gene (Sandy) of Rib Lake; a daughter, Shelvie (Paul) Griswold of Kingsport, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Steven (Donna) Griswold of Rogersville, Tenn., Daniel (Debbie) Griswold of Kingsport, Lynette (Allen) Kirsch of Howards Grove and Pamela (Steven) Winkel of Wausau; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willard (Nadine); and five sisters, Florence (Ed) Rusch, Joyce Johnson in infancy, Melva Johnson, Muriel (Bob) Monson and Lillian (Carl) Simek.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be given to Hope Hospice.

Dennis Schwabe
1956-2008
Dennis Schwabe, 52, Milwaukee, died Friday, Nov. 14.
Max A. Sass and Sons Funeral Home of Milwaukee assisted the family with arrangements.

Bernard Johnson
1923-2008
Bernard A. Johnson, 85, of Medford, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at Dove Health Care Center in Eau Claire, where he had resided for the last two months.
A celebration of Bernie's life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. The visitation is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a memorial service and dinner following.
Bernard Arthur Johnson was born June 27, 1923 in Ogema to Oscar and Myrtle (Peterson) Johnson. He was raised by his mother and stepfather John Fred Quarnstrom in Ogema. Bernie graduated from Westboro High School in 1941. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and then later the Air Force. His marriage to Joyce Markovsky took place August 10, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minn. A veteran of World War II, Bernie flew 25 missions over Nazi-occupied Europe as a ball turret gunner on a B17 aircraft. In 1948, he left the service as Staff Sergeant after serving for seven years.
After the service, Bernie worked in accounting and income tax in Michigan. In 1956, Bernie and Joyce moved back to Dorchester and were co-owners of Seidl's Tavern. They then moved to Colby where Bernie worked for Hull Town Mutual Insurance and later as credit manager for Rollohome in Marshfield until retirement.
Bernie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. His hobbies included gardening, hunting, playing cards and being with his family.
Bernie is survived by his sister, Myrle Blasius of Minneapolis; his two daughters, Sandra Johnson of Eau Claire and Vicky (James) Brost of Medford; and a son, David Johnson of Chippewa Falls. Bernie was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Lindsey and Tony Brost of Medford, and Lucas, Brady and Calvin Johnson of Fall Creek.
In addition to his parents, Bernie is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his brother, Everard; and sister, Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, or to the family for a veterans memorial.

Charles Moyer
1947-2008
Former Medford area resident Charles "Boysie" A. Moyer, 61, Stewartville, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 13 in Stewartville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Rev. Peter Warmanen officiating. Interment was at Perkinstown Community Cemetery, with full military honors performed by Medford Area Military Honors Team. Pallbearers were John Keller, Jared McAndrews, Russel Warner, Jonas Dorzok, Eddie Neubauer and Kurtis Keller.
Charles Moyer was born September 24, 1947 in Marshfield to the late Charles E. and Vivian J. (Greer) Moyer. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Medford, graduated high school in Traer, Iowa in 1966 and attended Rochester Community College majoring in culinary arts.
On July 26, 1969 he married Nancy A. Howard and they later divorced. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971 and during that time was also in the 82nd Airborne and worked for a four star general as a cook. He reentered the United States Army and served as a food service specialist from 1976 to 1985 and was stationed at numerous places. After the service, he moved to Minnesota where he worked as a cook at various businesses from 1985 to 1989. He then moved to Wausau where he also cooked for various businesses until ill health forced his retirement on May 13, 2008.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors.
Survivors include three daughters, Dawn (John) Keller of Stewartville, and Tammy Moyer and Melissa Moyer, both of Wausau; his significant other, Rafina Gauthier of Madison; and 11 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Justin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family.

Dale Nasset
1927-2008
Dale W. Nasset, 81, of Eau Claire died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born in Eau Claire on January 7, 1927, a son of William and Della (Waak) Nasset. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1944.
He served in the United States Army during 1945 and 1946 in the 21st Ordinance Company deployed in Japan.
Dale married Marjorie "Jean" Peterson in Eau Claire on July 19, 1947.
Dale was a member of First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.
Dale is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Bradley (Joan) Nasset of Medford; and his daughter, Vicki (Allen) Holmstrom of Eau Claire. Also three granddaughters, Tamara Keller of River Falls, Haley (Todd) Hennlich of New Richmond, and Katie Holmstrom of Eau Claire; four great-grandchildren, Tucker, Laney and Shelby Hennlich and Kelsey Nasset (daughter of Tamara); his sister-in-law, Marlene Nasset of St. Paul, Minn.; nephew, Joel (Emily) Nasset of Bloomington, Minn.; niece, Jill (Jim) Conlin of North Oaks, Minn.; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Elle and Foster Conlin and Calvin and Sophie Nasset.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, David Nasset.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 17 at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, with Pastor John E. Kerr officiating. Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire where VFW Post 305 conducted military graveside honors.
Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home of Eau Claire assisted the family with arrangements.

Clarence Glamann
1921-2008
Clarence M. Glamann, 87, Medford, died Saturday, Nov. 8 at Memorial Health Center in Medford. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Medford, with Pastor Peter Warmanen officiating. Inurnment of his cremated remains will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II, with graveside military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.

Gerald Koontz
1930-2008
Gerald G. Koontz, age 78, of Dorchester, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008. He was living at home until the time of his death.
Services for Mr. Koontz were held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Pastor Peter Warmanen officiated.
Gerald Koontz was born on June 27, 1930, in Milwaukee to Ed and Ethel (Grube) Koontz. He graduated from Westboro High School. Gerald was united in marriage to Mary Mayer, who preceded him in death. Gerald and Marilyn Marohl were united in marriage on November 12, 1965, in Burnett. Gerald served in the Air Force, including Korea and Vietnam. He worked at Liberty Homes in Dorchester as a night watchman and was a school bus driver in the Colby School District. Gerald was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed bird watching. Gerald's passion was his family.
Gerald Koontz is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn of Dorchester; children, Bob (Tammy) Koontz of Medford, Jim Koontz of Rothschild, Kevin (Lorie) Koontz of Crestview, Fla., Sharon (Gary) Schmidt of Burnett and Richard (Kelly) Nelson of Denver, Colo.; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Mary) Koontz of Eau Claire and Allen (Anneliese) Koontz of Kokomo, Ind.; and his cat, Sox.
Mr. Koontz was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary in 1963; and a niece.
