Robert W. “Bob” Swanbeck, 77, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, December 2, 2004 in his home.

He was born on April 8, 1927 in Wisconsin, the son of Robert W. and Rose Reed Swanbeck.

Bob was employed by Rock County as a maintenance man. Bob’s greatest enjoyment after his retirement was golfing at Krueger-Haskell golf course, eating breakfast at the counter of Mary’s with his friends and visiting with his neighbors.

Survivors include his children, Gail (David) Britt of Centreville, VA, Karen Swanbeck and Linda (Robert) Dvorak both of Onalaska, WI, Kenneth (Jackie) Swanbeck of LaCrosse, WI, David (Julie) Hastings of DeForest, WI and Amy (Chris) Caccamo of Flowermound, TX; 12 grandchildren, Lindsey, Joshua, Jessica, Bethany, Katie, Stephanie, Kenneth, Pamela, Melissa, Andrea, Anna and Ryan; one great grandchild, Taylor.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Kenneth.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2004 in the First Lutheran Church, Onalaska, WI. There will be no visitation. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.

Rodney E. Synstegard, 82 of Beloit, WI died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Beloit Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was born February 25, 1922 in Freeport, IL the son of Carl and Lela Mae Berg Synstegard. Rodney graduated from Brodhead High School in 1940 as Salutatorian of his class. He attended the University of Wisconsin for three years until he was called to duty in the Navy. Rodney attended Dartmouth and Welsley for officer training. He served as Lieutenant in the United States Navy during WWII. Rodney was commissioned on the U.S.S. Haynsworth, a destroyer that was hit by a kamikaze in the South Pacific. After the war, he completed his BA in Economics at the University of Wisconsin. Rodney married Bette Bahr on June 30, 1951 in Madison, WI.

Rodney was employed by Sentry Life for eight years. He joined the family business, E.L. Berg & Son Brokerage Firm, where he owned and operated it for 25 years until his retirement in 1987. Rodney enjoyed reading and classical music. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Krueger’s Men Golf Club for many years. He was President of the Local Real Estate Board.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Bette; daughters Tracey (Scott) Frudden of San Diego, CA, Dr. Chrys Synstegard of Golden, CO; sister, Clarice (Arthur) Spoerry of Janesville, WI; nephew, David (Mary ) Spoerry of Janesville, WI; niece, Cindy (Dennis) Messerli; cousin, Kenneth (Sandy) Hansen of Janesville, WI; and great nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 with Pastor Jim Rowlette from First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Monday until time of services in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in his name to the First United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society for Merkel Cell research.

Ann C. Straight, 88, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, November 27, 2004 in Beloit Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Ann was born January 11, 1916 in Lead, SD the daughter of Mark E. and Anna Jungwirth McConnell. She married Almond Straight on March 14, 1943 in Tomah, WI. He predeceased her on June 1, 1989. Ann was a member of St.Thomas Catholic Church

Survivors include her sisters, Mary (Bud) Hopper of Beloit, WI, Thresia Mudore of Chicago, IL, and Ellen (Glen) Gudmanson of Cadott, WI; her brother, Leonard (June) McConnell of Beloit, WI; sister-in-law, Minnie McConnell of Cadott, WI; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and three brothers, John, Frances and Raymond McConnell

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004 in St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. James G. Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Mount Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Margaret G. Smith, 81, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 29, 1923 in Wells, Minnesota, the daughter of Abner K. and Rosetta Bennett Flowers.

Margaret retired from Freeman Shoe Company after working there for 21 years. She was a member of Central Christian Church. Margaret belonged to the Ruth Circle, and she was active in the bible study group.

Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Smith of Beloit, WI; her son, Douglas (Dianna) Smith of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Rebecca Smith of Beloit, WI, Mark Smith of Beloit, WI, Sara Smith of Beloit, WI; brothers, Richard (Sagda) Flowers of Omaha, NE, Robert (Adelene) Flowers of South Beloit, IL; sisters, Marion Johnson of Charles City, IA, Marilyn (Marvin) Reis of Osage, IA; brother-in-law, Bill Fenton of Osage, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; two infants, David and Paul Smith; brother, Roger Flowers; sister, Marie Fenton; brother-in-law, Arnold Johnson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Central Christian Church with Pastor Norm Starks officiating. Burial will be held at East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI 53511 assisted the family with the arrangements.

Martha (Lisiecki) Schreiber, 80, of Beloit, WI, died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in Encore Senior Villa, Beloit, WI.

She was born September 12, 1924 in Blue Island, IL, the daughter of John and Agnes Perlinski Lisiecki. Martha married Matthew Schreiber on June 1, 1946 in Tomahawk, WI. He predeceased her on May 25, 1970.

Martha was employed by Walworths in Janesville, WI. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. Martha enjoyed arranging flowers, gardening, fishing and reading.

Survivors include her children, Mary (Gerald) Hoey of South Beloit, IL and Daniel (Laura) Schreiber of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Mike (Tracy) Hoey, Sean (Becky) Hoey, James (Deena) Hoey, and Jason Schreiber; great grandchildren, Mikayla Hoey, Alex Hoey and Ryan Hoey; three sisters, Frances Scipior, Bernadine (Leo) Zivicki and Angeline Pliska all of Steven Point, WI.

She was predeceased by her parents, three sisters, three brothers and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Fr. Steve Kortendick officiating. Burial will be Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home.

Larry "Bear" Edward Scott, 58, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, October 31, 2004 in his home.

He was born October 14, 1946 in Beloit, WI, the son of Wilson and Irene Wecker Scott. Bear was a 1965 graduate of Beloit Catholic High School. He married Darlean A. Coleman-Wasmund on November 18, 1975 in Rockford, IL.

Bear was formerly employed by the King of Diamonds as the bar manager, Leath Furniture, Gardner Machine, Chrysler and for the past 22 years Bake Line. Few in the city have ever matched Bear’s Athleticism. He still holds many records at Beloit Catholic High and was a member of the BCH Hall of Fame. Bear continued his athleticism after graduation. He played in the Turkey Bowl, numerous softball leagues and many basketball leagues. Bear was a legend. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.

Survivors include his wife, Darlean of Beloit, WI; three sons, Tad (Sally) Wasmund, Danny Wasmund and Sean Scott all of Beloit, WI; five grandchildren, Shad, Wyatt, Amber, Shaina, and Brooke; four sisters, Barbara (Steve) Pizzolato of South Beloit, IL, Betty (Mike) McCormick of Madison, WI, Mary Lou (Bob) Sersch of South Beloit, IL, and Carol (Steve) Golbuff of Oshkosh, WI; two brothers, Lee (Sherry) Scott of Beloit, WI and Danny (Jeannie) Scott of Roscoe, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and godson, Tom Cole.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend William Wagner officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Robert H. Shugarts, 76, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, October 29, 2004 in his home.

He was born April 2, 1928 in Clearfield, PA the son of Fred and Naomi Wilsoncroft Shugarts. Bob attended Clearfield High School and Williamsport Technical College in Williamsport, PA. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a Paratrooper stationed in Japan. Bob married Lois M. Hibler on August 18, 1954 in Joliet, IL. Bob and Lois recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

He was employed at Beloit Corporation as a group leader in Press Engineering from 1954 until his retirement in 1986. Bob was an avid golfer and spent the past several winters in Gulf Shores, AL, enjoying his hobby. He also enjoyed bowling on the Beloit Corporation team for many years. During his earlier years he played softball for the Beloit Corporation. Bob loved being outdoors and spent many vacations hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was also a talented carpenter and a “do it yourselfer” and a life long Pittsburg Pirates fan.

Bob was a member of the Beloit Corporation Quarter Century Club, Municipal Men’s Golf Club, Beloit Loyal order of the Moose Lodge #191, and the Men’s Archery Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; daughter, Barbara (Roy “Joe”) Porter of Beloit, WI; sons, Marty (Mary) Shugarts of Eagan, MN and Robert II (Judy) Shugarts of Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren, Kim Porter, Joe Porter, Dan Shugarts, Robert III Shugarts and Kristi Shugarts; brother Frank (Ann) Shugarts of Brookfield, OH; sisters, Joyce (Carl) Undercofler of Woodland, PA, Janet Shugarts of Cortland, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, infant child Gregory Scott Shugarts; sister’s Mabel, Betty, Dessie; and brothers Ken, John and Bill.

Bob was well respected by his family, many friends and co-workers. He was a quiet, gentle, caring, tolerant man with a special sense of humor. He leaves behind many wonderful memories, and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2004 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Gene VanGalder officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2004 in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in Bob’s name to the charity of your choice. A memorial fund will also be established in Bob’s name.

Helen M. Saeger, 83, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, October 23, 2004 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.

She was born on March 8, 1921 in Oxford, WI, the daughter of Hugh and Leona Stafford Nelson. Helen married Paul C. Saeger on April 8, 1946 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Freeport, IL. He predeceased her on July 30, 1983.

Helen was employed by Fairbanks Morse Company for 23 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Grinnell Senior Center, Sand Castle Senior Center and St. Andrew Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Constance P. (James) Jeffery of Rockford, IL; five grandchildren, Carla (Yancy) Ambrose of Rockton, IL, Helen McKeown of Rockford, IL, William H. (Linda) Jeffery of Lincoln, NE, James (Tory) Saeger of South Beloit, IL and Nancy (Ronald) Aimers of Beloit, WI; great grandchildren, Crysta Hohensee, Casey Raye Ambrose, Kevin Douglas Jeffery, Gregory Thomas Jeffery, Zachary Michael Jeffery, Paul Earl Saeger and Elizabeth Ann Margaret Swenson; one great great grandchild, Ashlee Taylor Hohensee.

She was predeceased by her parents, daughter, Donna Taylor and son-in-law, Earl Taylor.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2004 in St. Andrew Lutheran Church with Reverend Richard Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
