Lawrence Mangold, 96
A funeral Mass was held on Oct. 15, 1999 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church for Lawrence Mangold, 96, who died on Oct. 10, 1999. Fr. Ed Wawrzyniakowski officiated at the ceremony with Schramka-Gunther Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.
Mr. Mangold was born March 8, 1903 in Birnhamwood, son of John and Martha (nee Ciske) Mangold. He married Monica May Phillips on April 25, 1928. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Cedarburg Council #4520. He taught first aid for the American Red Cross and was a Scoutmaster for many years. He retired from the U. S. Post Office. He owned the camera and television store in Cedarburg and Grafton and was known for his photography. He then took up locksmithing and owned Mangold’s Locksmith for over 20 years. He finally retired at age 93.
Survivors include: daughters Evelyn (Francis) Goska, Missouri City, Texas, Kathleen (Thayer) Shafer, Sheridan, Wyom.
Further survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Monica and son Francis Mangold.

Arnold ‘Arnie’ Klemstein, 87
Arnold A. "Arnie" Klemstein of West Bend, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at Cedar Springs Health Center, Cedarburg, at the age of 87.
He was born Jan. 21, 1912, in August, to the late Adolph and Gusta (nee Strauch) Klemstein.
Arnold grew up in Altoona was an avid athlete and participated in state competitions in both basketball and track and field.
On Aug. 22, 1937, he married Myrtle E. Paradise.
Arnold was an electrician for Wisconsin Electric Power Co. for over 32 years, retiring in 1975, a year after the couple moved from Milwaukee to West Bend.
He was an avid gardener and woodworker and enjoyed outdoor activities with family an friends.
Arnold was a devoted church member at Nativity Lutheran Church, Wauwatosa, and at his present church, St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend.
Survivors include a son, Dale (Sue) of West Bend; a daughter-in-law, Sally Klemstein of Milwaukee; four grandsons, Scott (Jodi) of West Bend, Troy (Vicky) of Milwaukee, Brian (Susan) of Vernon Hills, Ill. and Greg (Stacey) of Schaumburg, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his wife on Dec. 5, 1996; a son, Gary; three brothers, Arthur, Edgar and Herbert; a sister, Cora; and two nieces, Esther Asplin and Evelyn Marks.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend. Rev. Daniel W. Kelm will officiate, and interment will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. in Pinelawn Cemetery, Milwaukee.
Visitation at the church only will be Friday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of services.
The family appreciates memorials to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.

Janet Kirschner, 43
A funeral service was held on Oct. 22, 1999 at Poole Funeral Home in Port Washington for Janet Kirschner, 43, who died on Oct. 19, 1999. Pastor Grant Hignight of Brown Deer Baptist Church officiated at the ceremony. Poole Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Interment was at St. Rose Cemetery in Fredonia.
Mrs. Kirschner was born Feb. 17, 1956 in Wiggins, Miss., daughter of W.D. and Patsy (nee Bennett) Beauchamp.
She married Mike Kirschner on June 25, 1998. She was the materials maneager for the Milwaukee NC Machinery Co., Fredonia and a purchasing manager for Danfoss Graham Drives, Milwaukee.
Survivors include: mother Patsy Beauchamp, Ponchatoula, Louis.; husband Mike Kirschner, Fredonia; daughters Alyssia Brown, Racine, Alexis Kirschner, Brown Deer, Caittlyn Malone, Brown Deer, Melinda Kirschner, Jackson; sisters Barbara (Phillip) Juve, Hammond, Louis., Cheryl (Mike) Vampram, Maurepas, Louis.
Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father W.D. Beauchamp.
Memorials to the Brown Deer Baptist Church Building Fund are appreciated.

Herman F. Casper, 66
Herman F. Casper, 66, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Nov.10, 1999, at Columbia Hospital, Milwaukee.
He was born March 27, 1933, in Newburg, to the late Alex and Cecelia (nee Fischer) Casper.
After his marriage to Ann Matenaer on Sept. 3, 1955, at Holy Angels Church, West Bend, they settled in the town of Trenton.
Herman was employed as a carpenter for Lawrence Stockhausen for more than 45 years.
He enjoyed fishing, especially at his lake home on Moose Lake in Hayward.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Tony of Theresa, Ted (Jenny) of West Bend, Matt of Green Bay and Tim (Kristin) of Newburg; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice (Don) Odgers of Rubicon, Elaine Dille of Round Rock, Texas and Carole (David) Sauer of Oconomowoc; two brothers, John and Philip (Janet), both of West Bend. He is the brother-in-law of Beatrice (Leonard) Peter of Campbellsport, Rita (Charles) Dwyer and Sylvia (Leroy) Bohn, both of West Bend, Joseph (Euna) Matenaer of Stevensville, Mich., Jerry (Diane) Matenaer of Tempe, Ariz., Jim (Kitty) Matenaer of Peoria, Ariz., Bob (Carol) Matenaer of Menomonee Falls and Janice Matenaer of West Bend. Further surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was a brother-in-law, Paul Matenaer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church. Father Gerald Brittain will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the 8 p.m. prayer vigil, and also on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
Memorials may be given to Holy Angels Church Foundations for the Future.

Marvin J. Bonlender, 74
Marvin J. Bonlender, 74, of Allenton, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, West Bend.
He was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Nenno to the late Edgar and Anna (nee Schellinger) Bonlender.
Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After his marriage on Jan. 5, 1952, to Rosemary T. Wiedmeyer at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nenno, they moved to the West Bend area where they engaged in farming until settling in Allenton in 1968.
He then became employed as a carpenter.
Marvin enjoyed racing and many different types of spectator sports.
He was a member of the Fohl Martin Post 483 American Legion in Allenton, and Local 2283 Carpenters Union.
Survivors include his wife; seven children, Al (Barb), Sandy (Paul) Held and Lee (Judy), all of Slinger, Robin (Kim) of Kewaskum, Jane (Julian) Laufer of Slinger, Lynn (Doug) Riesop and Tom (Jeanne), both of West Bend; 16 grandchild-ren; a sister, Armina Wach of Waubeka; seven sisters-in-law, Gloria Bonlender of West Bend, Hilda Brodzeller of Slinger, Alice (Wilmer) Herman of Kewaskum, Bernice Wiedmeyer of Theresa, Theresa Hembel and Rita Wiesner, both of West Bend, and Millie (Norbert) Weiland of Campbellsport; a brother-in-law, Harold (Florence) Wiedmeyer of Theresa; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a grandson; a brother, Lester; and six brothers-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, Allenton. Fr. Richard Breitbach will be the presider, and burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Allenton.
Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Friday after 4 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m.

Herbert H. Pergande, 96
A funeral service was held on Oct. 21, 1999 at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg for Herbert H. Pergande, 96, who died on Oct. 20, 1999. Rev. Dale Erickson officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home. Burial was at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg.
Mr. Pergande was born in Cedarburg on Feb. 9, 1903, son of John and Ida (nee Koepsel) Pergande. He worked in a shoe factory and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: sisters Adeline Koehler, Cedarburg, Laura Schmidt, Milwaukee; brother Ervin Pergande, Milwaukee.
Further suvived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Vera M. Minshall, 82
A funeral service was held on Oct. 21, 1999 at Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton for Vera M. Minshall, 82, who died on Oct. 18, 1999. Saukville American Legion Ladies Auxillary performed the service. Burial was at Saukville Union Cemetery in Saukville. Mueller Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Minshall was born June 8, 1917 in Milwaukee, daughter of Jacob and Mary (nee Hiebernig) Plesec. She married Roy Minshall and was part owner of Roy & Vera’s Tavern in Saukville since 1947.
Survivors include: friends Frederic (Kathleen) Learned, Port Washington, John (Barbara) Learned, Saukville, Mike (Barbara) Learned, Saukville.
Further survived by many other special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy.
Memorials to the Saukville American Legion Auxillary or Saukville Fire and Rescue Department are appreciated.

Judith Rathke, 42
Private services were held on Oct. 23, 1999 at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church for Judith Rathke, 42, who died on Oct. 20, 1999. Rev. James Schultz officiated at the ceremony with arrangements handled by Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg. Burial was at David’s Star Cemetery in Jackson.
Ms. Rathke was born May 6, 1957 in Milwaukee, daughter of Oscar and Ruth (nee Volkmann) Rathke. She attended David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: parents Oscar and Ruth Rathke, Jackson; sister Karen (David) Essmann, Jackson; brother Daniel (Patti) Rathke, Jackson; nephews Eric Essmann, Brian Rathke, Gregg Rathke, Kurt Rathke; niece Stacy Essmann.
Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorials to David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church or Morning Star Lutheran Church are appreciated.
