James C. Flannery
James C. Flannery, 55, of Jackson, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee.
He was born May 17, 1945, in Berwind, W.Va., to the late James and Mary (nee Hall) Flannery, and married Linda Foster on July 10, 1965, in Port Washington.
Following their marriage Jim and Linda lived in Illinois until moving to Port Washington in 1980. They settled in Jackson in 1991.
Jim served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
For 20 years he worked at Sterling Inc. in Milwaukee, and was an elder at Living Word Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Christy (David) Snyder of Cedar Grove and Darin (Jennifer) of Port Washington; two grandchildren, Kyle Wolfgang and Jordan Rose; two sisters, Shirley (Bob) Richardson of Wilmington, N.C. and Nora "Kat" (Dan) Daniels of Elko, Nev.; three nieces; five nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Jackson, with Pastor Timothy Niekerk officiating.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be made to Living Word Lutheran Church of Jackson.
Ethel M. Kuester
Ethel M. Kuester, nee Rauch, 80,of West Bend, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.
She was born Nov. 27, 1919, in West Bend, to the late Milton and Martha (nee Mayer) Rauch, and married Marvin L. Kuester on Dec. 4, 1937, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, West Bend.
He passed away Aug. 30, 1992.
Ethel enjoyed many of the Lord's offerings of this world, including her family, music, and gardening, especially flowers, which she considered the most beautiful of the Lord's gifts.
Survivors include two children, David (Marilyn) of West Bend and Mary (John) Lukaszewski of Menomonee Falls; a foster daughter, Susan (Jerry) Homuth of West Bend; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Milton (Mary) of Racine; three sisters-in-law, Adela Weston of Jackson, and Dorothy (Ranier) Elsinger and Bernice Timm, both of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend.
Rev. James Hill of New Hope United Church of Christ, Jackson, will officiate, and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Jean C. Scharfenberg
Jean C. Scharfenberg (nee Stuettgen) of West Bend died on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 at Virginia Highlands Health and Rehabilitation Center, Germantown. She was 97 years old.
She was born in Hubertus on July 13, 1903 to the late William and Gertrude (nee Voss) Stuettgen, and she married Elmer John Scharfenberg. Elmer preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1962.
Jean and Elmer owned and operated Scharfenberg Hardware in Richfield until Elmer's death. She worked for Rockfield Canning Company and Libby's Canning Company for many years. Jean enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include special friends Toby and Larry Becker, Judy Corey, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend with Pastor John Bass officiating. Visitation was held on Sunday at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial took place on Monday, Sept. 25 at 9:30 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin or the charity of the donor's choice.
Christine E. Hronis
Christine E. Hronis of Hartford passed away on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000 at Hartford Memorial Hospital. She was 77 years old.
She is survived by her husband, Gust Hronis, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2000; her brother and sister-in-law, Sam & Best Hronis of Oshkosh; Nikki Hronis of Oshkosh; Evelyn (Robert) Struyzinski of Oshkosh; and many, many loving friends.
Christine is the vice president of Inland Contract Carriers, Inc. of West Bend. She and her husband have owned the company since 1956. She was the owner of Littlewood Kennel of Sussex and a handler for over 30 years. She was the past president of the Retriever's Club, a member and judge for the Wisconsin Amateur Field Trial and Ozaukee Field Trial Club. Christine has judged Retriever's field trials across the country.
At the request of Christine and Gust, a private service will be held.

LaVern M. Hein
LaVern M. Hein (nee Mancoske) of Slinger passed away on Friday, Sept. 22, 2000 at Cedar Lake Health Care Center. She was 82 years old.
She was born in Brillion on May 31, 1918 to Jacob and Cecelia (nee Dorsey) Mancoske. She married Alphonse P. Hein on June 18, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Brillion.
LaVern was raised in Maple Grove. After marriage, she and her husband lived in Greenleaf where they owned and operated "Al & LaVern's Bar" for over 10 years. Later, they moved to Milwaukee, where she was employed as a baker for AO Smith. She then worked for G.S.A. for over 16 years retiring in 1982. She finally settled in Slinger.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Slinger, Christian Mother's Society, VFW Ladies Auxillary of Slinger, and Hartford Senior Friends. She was very active with Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by three children, Carleen (Ron) Schaefer of West Bend, David (Catherine) Hein of Sussex, and Daniel (Yvone) Hein of Sussex; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Jeff) Wiedmeyer of West Bend, John (Tippy) Holz of Kansas City, Missouri, Brenda (Mayur) Patel of Columbus, Ohio, Jonathan, Joseph and Jaclyn Hein of Sussex, Lori (Kirk) Niswonger of Pewaukee, and Arlen (Elaine) Vanek of Fort Worth, Tex.; six great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Beatrice) Mancoske of Denmark; and one sister-in-law, Catherine Bushmaker of DePere. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 15, 1963; three brothers; and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church of Slinger with Father Robert J. Bales officiating. Visitation was held at the church only on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment took place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenleaf, on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m.
Memorials to St. Peter's Building Fund are appreciated.

Martha E. Hahn
Martha E. Hahn (nee Schmidt) of Slinger passed away on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 at her residence. She was 91 years old.
She was born in the Town of Hartford on Dec. 12, 1908 to Anton and Katherine (nee Piel) Schmidt. She married Michael T. Hahn in November of 1941 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Martha was raised in the Town of Hartford and attended St. Lawrence School. After marriage, she and her husband lived on the family farm in Slinger. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Slinger and an Auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary.
She is survived by three sisters, Leona Schmidt of West Bend, Esther Multhauf of Rubicon, and Eleanor Schmidt of Hartford; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael, who died on Aug. 10, 1987; two brothers, Anthony and Norbert; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation was held at the Phillip Funeral Home of Slinger on Sunday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m. Closing of the casket prayers took place at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 25 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church of Slinger with Father Robert J. Bales officiating. Interment took place at the (Old) St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery following the mass.
Robert E. Engerson
Robert E. Engerson of Hartford passed away on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 at the Hartford Care Center. He was 73 years old.
He was born in Milwaukee on July 2, 1927 to Oscar and Violet (nee Carpenter) Engerson. He married Rose Urbanek on Jan. 15, 1949 at Holy Assumption Church in West Allis.
Robert served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of Hartford Senior Friends and St. Mary of the Hill Parish. He retired from AC/Delphi, Milwaukee in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; two sons, Earle (Collette) of Milwaukee and Michael (Julie) of Hustisford; three grandchildren, William, Jonathan, and Jeanne; two brothers-in-law, August (Melba) Urbanek and Steve (Loraine) Urbanek, both of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Mary Griesmer of Germantown. Robert is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Joan and Jayne; a sister, Marvolyn Engerson, a sister-in-law, Irene Urbanek; and a brother-in-law, Willard Griesmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of St. Therese, Holy Hill, with Fr. Fred Alexander officiating. The family greeted relatives and friends on Sunday at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.

Barry S. Buckley
Barry S. Buckley of Hustisford passed away on Sept. 18, 2000 after a brief illness. He was 53 years old.
He was born in Madisonville, Ken. on July 2, 1947 to Vernon and Glodean Buckley. He was an avid sportsman and dog trainer, and a member and past member of related organizations. He was also active in the United Vietnam Veterans Post.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn of Hustisford; mother-in-law, Celia Friedli; sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Rick Knuth of Stoddard; and a special niece and nephew. He also leaves numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery, Neosho.
