Sylvester J. "Syl" Bales
Sylvester J. "Syl" Bales, 83, of rural Kewaskum, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
He was born Dec. 30, 1917, in the town of Trenton, to the late Frank and Agnes (Bahr) Bales, and attended Woodside Farm School, Holy Angels Grade School and West Bend High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from January 1942 until December, 1945 and was stationed in the South Pacific for 2 1/2 years
He retired from Mallard Coach.
He married Alice C. Bohn on May 4, 1943, at St. John of God Church, town of Farmington.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Pionkowski of Waldo, Sue (John) Barcus of Ooster, Ohio and Beth Ann Bales of Grafton; three grandchildren, Jeff Pionkowski of Minneapolis, Minn., Jacqueline (Jeff) Rose of Jeromesville, Ohio and Aaron (Erin) Reigle of North Little Rock, Ark.; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Marie Rose; three sisters, Dolores (Robert) Hoeft and Rosalie (Walter) Hoeft, both of West Bend and Sylvia (Eugene) Belunes of West Bend; three brothers, Raymond (Loretta), Alex (Marie) and Franklin (Margaret), all of West Bend; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Bohn of Port Washington, Marian Bohn of West Bend and Eleanor (Merlin) Enright of Random Lake; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a son, Cliff and a daughter, Kristie.
Syl was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of St. Michaels, the DAV Post 58 of West Bend, American Legion Post 384 of Kewaskum, VFW Post 1393 of West Bend and the Catholic Knights of Columbus of West Bend.
Closing of the casket prayers will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Fr. Robert Artmann will officiate, and interment will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m.
Raymond H. Justman
Raymond H. Justman, 91, of the town of Barton, found peace after a lingering illness on Monday, July 30, 2001, at Hartford Care Center, Hartford.
He was born on May 8, 1910, in the town of Herman, to the late Albert and Martha (Lehman) Justman, and on Sept. 18, 1937, married Frona Garbisch at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Scott.
The couple made their home in the town of Barton where they farmed from 1943 to 1993.
Mr. Justman was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kewaskum.
He was a school bus driver for 30 years with Johnson School Bus Service in West Bend, and was an election poll worker for the town of Barton.
He traveled to Germany twice and enjoyed fishing trips.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Winifred (Nick) Martinez and Gail Carlson, both of West Bend; two brothers, Royal (Rose) Justman of West Bend and Roland (Bea) Justman of Mayville; a sister, Recella Budahn of Huilsburg; three sisters-in-law, Minnie Justman and Lucille Justman, both of West Bend, and Malinda Garbisch of the town of Scott; 11 grandchildren, Larry Carlson, Pamela Carlson (special friend Steve Lillback), Tom (Veronica) Martinez, Jeffrey Martinez, MSgt. Clifford Martinez USMC, Laura (Hector) Ovalle, Calvin Martinez, Michael (Ann) Martinez, Barbara (Randy) Brockman, Dennis (Renee) Martinez and Denise Polling; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 13 nieces; seven nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Rufus and Russell Justman; a sister, Ruth Fick; three brothers-in-law, Martin Budahn, Ray Garbisch and Marvin Garbisch; and two sisters-in-law, Beulah Justman and Flossie Garbisch.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum.
Rev. Timothy Henning will officiate, and burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Lutheran Memorial Park, Kewaskum.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of one's choice are appreciated.
Marie E. Stockhausen
Marie E. Stockhausen, nee Schladweiler, 82, of West Bend, was born to eternal life peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center.
She was born Jan. 23, 1919, in the town of Farmington to the late Phillip and Mary (nee Fellenz) Schladweiler, and married Jerome M. Stockhausen on Nov. 19, 1947, at Holy Angels Church, West Bend.
Her husband passed away on May 16, 2000.
Marie graduated from St. Michael's School and then worked on the family farm after her father's death.
In the early 1940s her family moved to West Bend and she worked at The West Bend Co. until her marriage.
In 1950 Jerome and Marie built their home where they lived until they became residents of the Samaritan Health Center.
She enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening.
Marie was a member of the Christian Mothers Society at St. Frances Cabrini Church for many years. She was a loving mother and beloved grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include three children, Joyce (fiance Kevin Walsh) Wiegert of West Bend, Janet Stockhausen of Madison and John (Diane) of West Bend; five grandchildren, Paul and Philip Wiegert, Elizabeth (Brian) Bourke, Brad and Ashley Stockhausen; two great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Connor Bourke; brother and sister-in-laws, Bernadine Wollner, Lawrence (Vivian) Stockhausen, Vincent (Janet) Stockhausen, Merlin (Donna) Stockhausen and Trautie Stockhausen, all of West Bend; her cat, Missy; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Veronica (Alex) Peters; a brother, Leo (Hyacynth) Schladweiler; two brothers-in-law, Ray Wollner Sr. and Cyril Stockhausen; and four brothers and sisters in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, West Bend.
Fr. Jeffrey Haines will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Frances Cabrini Haiti Mission, St. John's Lutheran School, The Threshold or the Samaritan Health Center Activities Department, are appreciated.

Floyd E. Grosklaus
Floyd E. Grosklaus, 80, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Kewaskum, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2001, at Village Oaks Assisted Living in Orlando.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1920, in the town of Farmington to the late Edwin and Alvina (Lilge) Grosklaus, and on June 5, 1943, married Beulah Hirsig.
She passed away on Nov. 1, 1994.
Floyd had been a resident in Orlando since 1974.
Survivors include a son, Gary (Evelyn) Grosklaus of Orlando; a grandson, Brian (Jennifer) Musselwhite of Orlando; a great-granddaughter, Casey; a sister-in-law, Laura Miller of Verona; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was an infant son, Wayne.
Private graveside services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum, with Rev. Edwin Fredrich officiating.
Memorials to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated.
The Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum, served the family.
Cecilia E. Schaefer
Cecilia E. Schaefer, nee Weyer, 91, of Slinger, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Berlin Memorial Hospital, Berlin.
She was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Milwaukee to the late Peter and Mathilda (Fehring) Weyer, and was raised near Pike Lake in the town of Hartford.
After her marriage to Alois A. Schaefer on Nov. 28, 1928, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Germantown, the couple lived in Slinger.
Her husband passed away June 20, 1973.
Survivors include five children, Edward (Jane) Schaefer and Mary (Otto) Roecker, both of Wautoma, Robert (Donna) Schaefer of Hartford, Suzanne (Maurice) Gahlman of Oregon, Wis. and George (Sharon) Schaefer of Neshkoro; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were four sisters and two brothers.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger, the Christian Mother's Society and the Legion of Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger.
Fr. Robert J. Bales will officiate, and interment will be in Old St. Peter's Cemetery, Slinger.
Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home, Slinger, will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. when closing of the casket prayers will be held.
Memorials to St. Peter's Catholic Church, Slinger, are appreciated.
