Bernice A. Remmel
Bernice A. Remmel, nee Degner, 82, of the town of Erin, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Hartford Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 28, 1919, in West Bend, to the late Erwin and Mathilda (Hoppe) Degner, and graduated from West Bend High School in 1936.

After her marriage to Elroy N. Remmel on Aug. 3, 1940, in West Bend, the couple lived in West Bend, later moving to Milwaukee, and settling in the Hartford area in 1977.

She assisted her husband as a meat wrapper at Lerner Food Store of Milwaukee for over 10 years.

Survivors include her husband; four children, Ronald (Effie) of Ashland, Mass., Alan (Karen) of Saukville, Janis (Stewart) Hibl of Oak Creek and Jean (Terrence) Vogl of West Bend; seven grandchildren, Heidi (Terrance) Gerlach, Nathan Hibl, Brian Hibl, Darin Hibl, Charlotte Remmel, Joseph Remmel and Ryan Remmel; a great-grandson, Trevor Gerlach; a sister, Edith Degner of West Bend; a brother, Walter (Mabel) Degner of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Katherine Degner of West Bend; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death was a brother, Harold.

She was a member of Divine Savior Lutheran Church of Hartford.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend.

Pastor Thomas E. Feiertag will officiate, and interment will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend, at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated to the Diabetes Foundation.

John P. Ihlenfeld

John P. Ihlenfeld of Grafton passed away on Aug. 14, 2001 at the age of 67 years. He was buried with full military honors at Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee on Aug. 17. Jelacic Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Ihlenfeld was born Aug. 4, 1934 in Milwaukee, son of Haney and Delma (nee Whitehead) Ihlenfeld. He married Marilyn A. Westerhausen on Aug. 4, 1956 and settled with their family in Grafton in 1971. He worked as a senior reimbursement analyst for Blue Cross/Blue Shield United of Wisconsin. He served his country in the U. S. Army and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with the U. S. Army Reserves before his retirement in 1984. Mr. Ihlenfeld was active in many of the U.S. Army Reserves organizations as well being a huge fan of baseball.

Survivors include: daughters Susie (Joel) Fonder of Grafton, Sherie (Chris) Reinders of Madison; grandchildren Melanie, Janet and David; mother-in-law Kathryn Westerhausen; three nieces.

He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a sister Delma D. Schuldt.

Jonathon Jacob Jay Barth

A memorial service was held on Aug. 21 at Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend for Jonathon Jacob Jay Barth of Mequon, who died on Aug. 16, 2001 at the age of 62. Father James Strupp officiated at the ceremony. Cremation took place at Paradise Cremation Services of West Bend.
Mr. Barth was born Dec. 15, 1938 in Mequon, son of Norbert and Myrtle (nee Braun) Barth. He married Joanne J. Ridosko on Oct. 29, 1962 at St. James Catholic Church of Mequon. He was a truck driver for various companies and later he worked for Ataco Steel of Grafton as a janitor and press operator.

Survivors include: wife Joanne Barth of Fredonia; children Michael (Lori Schuster) Barth of Allenton, Kristina Barth of Mequon, James Barth of Mequon, Jody Barth of Fredonia, Benjamin Barth of Fredonia, Nicholas Barth of Fredonia.

He is further survived by grandchildren, Cassie, Sarah, Jon, Brittany, Travis and Kayla, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are appreciated.

Eugene H. "Boomer" Kuhaupt
Eugene H. "Boomer" Kuhaupt, 76, of Slinger, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Select Specialty Hospital of West Allis.
He was born Sept. 3, 1924, in the town of Polk to the late George and Anna (Laubenheimer) Kuhaupt, and attended Slinger schools.

After his marriage to Ruth Wolf on Nov. 12, 1949, at St. Peter's Catholic Church Slinger, the couple lived in the Slinger area, and he drove truck for the Slinger Creamery.

Ruth passed away on June 16, 1957.

He then married Aurla J. Carpenter (nee Garner) on July 16, 1966, at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Hartford, and the couple remained in the Slinger area.

He was employed as a press operator for Carbon Engineering of Slinger, and later was a special deputy for the Washington County Sheriff's Department for over 15 years.

He was an avid listener of the WTKM polka station.

Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Bill Carpenter and Gary (Georgi Anna) Carpenter, both of West Bend; two grandchildren, Tyler (Carole) Carpenter of Thomaston, Ga. and Monica (Brian) Gorgas of Spotsylvania, Va.; a brother, George Jr. (Mildred) Kuhaupt of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Marian Kuhaupt of Slinger and Mabel Kuhaupt of West Bend; a brother-in-law, Fred Buron of Slinger; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were three sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home, Slinger.

Deacon Bernie Wendt will officiate, and cremation will take place at Paradise Cremation Services with interment of ashes in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

Memorials to the Threshold Inc. of West Bend are appreciated.

Dorothea M. "Dottie" Trepte
Dorothea M. "Dottie" Trepte, nee (Blohm), 78, of West Bend (Newburg), died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at the Samaritan Health Center.

She was born April 22, 1923, in the town of Wauwatosa to the late William and Anna (nee Prust) Blohm, and married Donald A. Trepte on Jan. 12, 1944 in Wauwatosa.

Dottie was a loving wife, and a very devoted mom and grandma, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Survivors include her husband; two children, Terry (Susan) of West Bend and Candice (Richard) Liebert of Whitefish Bay; three grandchildren, Theodore (Melissa) and Steven Trepte and Jeffrey Liebert; a sister, Eugenia Condell of Milwaukee; a brother-in-law, Ralph (Betsy) Trepte; a sister-in-law, Lois Phillips; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Eleanor Heine and Ruth Manning.

Private funeral services will be held at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with Pastors Terry Berg and Victor Hackbarth co-officiating.

Those who wish may give memorials to the Alzheimer's Association of Southeastern Wisconsin.

Anthony C. Janik
Anthony C. Janik, 84, of Kewaskum, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Mapledale Manor in Kewaskum.

He was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Milwaukee, to the late John and Emily (Budiac) Janik, and on March 6, 1943, was united in marriage to Josephine Simkovic at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Milwaukee.

His wife passed away on Oct. 28, 1997.

Mr. Janik was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, and was employed by Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee.

Survivors include three children, Anthony (Victoria) Janik of Kewaskum, Ronald (Rosemarie) Janik and Carol Janik, both of Milwaukee; a brother, Dr. Joseph (Nancy) Janik of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Lillian Janik of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Suzanne, Paul and Jennifer Janik and Daron Fine; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Emil Janik, and a sister, Mary Yanke.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, at the Miller Funeral Home, Kewaskum.

Father Mark Jones will officiate, and a committal service will be held at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services, and at the cemetery from 1 p.m. until the time of the committal service.

Lester D. Mayer Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held this evening at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington for Lester D. Mayer Sr., who died on Aug. 23, 2001, at the age of 70. Father Allan Sommer will officiate at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. The VFW will conduct a memorial service tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Mayer was born Aug. 26, 1930 in the town of Polk, son of the late Edward and Ella (Braun) Mayer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He married Mary Ann Reinders at St. Mathias Catholic Church in West Bend on Sept. 17, 1955. Mr. Mayer worked as an assembler for Garden Way Co. in Port Washington for 31 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Port Washington, VFW Post 5373 and the Leathernecks Club.

Survivors include: wife Mary Ann Mayer of Port Washington; sons Lester Mayer Jr. of Port Washington, Alfred Mayer of Saukville, Allen (Rhonda) Mayer of Appleton; daughter Wendy Mayer of Saukville; grandchildren McKenzie, Brandon and Sierra; brothers Bob (Dorothy) Mayer of Eden, David (Audrey) Mayer of Houston; sisters Hilda (Leo) Jaeger of Shawano, Ruth (Tony) Zeckmeister of West Bend, Marion (the late Elroy) Wellenstein of West Bend.

He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister Mary and brothers Roy, Henry and Eddie Jr.

Memorials to the American Heart Association are appreciated.
