Dorothy M. Ertl
WATERTOWN - Dorothy M. Ertl, 82, of Watertown, died on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Watertown Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, Watertown. The Rev. Lee Meissner will officate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Watertown.

Mrs. Ertl was born on Nov. 3, 1920, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Alvin and Laura (Maile) Haupt, She was married to Joseph Ertl on Aug. 31, 1940, in Milwaukee.

Mrs. Ertle was a graduate of Rufus King High School, Milwaukee. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Watertown.

Survivors include one son, Roger Ertl, Watertown; two sisters-in-law, Ann (Eugene) Weber, Marshfield and Ruth (Irvin) Haumschild, Milladore; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on Jan. 11, 1990

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 10, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Christ United Methodist Church, Watertown.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Watertown.

Dorothy J. Oliver
Dorothy J. Oliver, 78, of Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., at First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Paul Lindau will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, at a later date.

Mrs. Oliver was born on Jan. 9, 1924, in Paulding, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Frieda (Huffman) Schmidt. She was married to William L. Oliver on Feb. 5, 1949, in Richland Center.

Mrs. Oliver graduated from Paulding Ohio High School in 1942 and also graduated from nurses training in Fort Wayne, Ind. In 1945, she moved to Boston, Mass., where she worked in a VA hospital for eight months. While there, she toured with Helen Keller throughout the hospital, visiting the wounded soldiers. She then moved to Richland Center, where she worked at the Richland County Hospital. After her marriage to William, they moved to Lodi, where her husband finished his degree in education. They then moved to Randolph, where they adopted their son, Daniel William, and Timothy John was born to Dorothy and William. Moving on to Beaver Dam, she worked as an occupational nurse at Metalfab Inc. and also as a housewife. She retired from Metalfab Inc. She continued to be active at the First Ev. Church in Beaver Dam as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Bethel education instructor, other adult education opportunities and the Retirees. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, her grandchildren and grand-puppies.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, William L. Oliver, Beaver Dam; two sons, Daniel William (Pat) Oliver, Beaver Dam, and Timothy John (Sherry) Oliver, Guttenberg, Iowa; three grandchildren, Allison, Emily and Margaret Oliver; two grand-puppies, Jackson and Molly Oliver; one brother, Edward Schmidt, Hamilton, Ohio; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Naomi Saffell, Richland Center.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, and on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

The Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Marilyn A. Johnson
HORICON - Marilyn A. Johnson, 66, of Horicon died early Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at her home.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 9 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Omro, until the 11 a.m. Mass. The Rev. Joseph Mattern will officiate.

Marilyn was born on Sept. 14, 1936, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Veretta and the late Ralph Noggle Sr. She married Duane Johnson on Nov. 30, 1957, in Milwaukee.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 45 years, Duane; three daughters, Julie (Michael) Seifert, Gena (Christopher) Kolo, and Joni (Steven) Volkert; one son, Glen (Nancy) Johnson; three sisters, Arlene (Richard) Gerek Sr., Barbara (Wayne) Waterman, and Janet (Roger) Kuehn; one brother, Ralph (Ruby) Noggle Jr.; 10 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Wilmer C. Polzin
FOND DU LAC - Wilmer C. "Bill" Polzin, 79, of 15 W. 12th St., Fond du Lac, died at his home on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia.

Mr. Polzin was born on Dec. 27, 1923, in Brownsville, the son of Louis and Esther (Milow) Polzin. He was married to Gertrude Strean on Oct. 30, 1976, in Fond du Lac.

Mr. Polzin was a member of St. Louis Church-Holy Family Parish. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a stenographer, stationed in Hawaii during most of his 6-year tenure. He mastered railroad telegraphy and worked for the Milwaukee Road for 38 years, retiring in 1985. During his years with the railroad he served as station agent in Berlin, Waupun, Slinger, Fox Lake, Beaver Dam, Horicon, Mayville, Fond du Lac and Milwaukee. He was a member of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post 75 and was a past commander of the Horicon American Legion Post. Bill was a deer-hunting enthusiast, and in his later years, enjoyed the hobby of rug making.

Bill will be sadly missed by his wife, Gert, Fond du Lac; three children from his first marriage, Jeff (Jana) Traintime, Burbank, Calif., Cherie Polzin, Horicon, and Lori Hefty, Oregon, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jessica and Bryan Hefty and Cassie Polzin, six stepchildren, Claude (Nancy) Strean, Deb (Joe) Dion, Greg (fiancee Julie Teichmiller) Strean, Tim (Kathy) Strean, Dan (Laurie) Strean, and Todd (Liz) Strean, all of the Fond du Lac area; 17 step-grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd (Sharon) Polzin, Hales Corners, Eugene (Marge) Polzin, McLean, Va.; four sisters, Jeanette Roeseler, Fond du Lac, Ardis MacKenzie, Park Ridge, Ill., Dianne (Jim) Raube, Brownsville, and Carol (Jack) Daniels, West Bend; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Esther, one brother, Louis Polzin; two sisters, Marion Tharp and Isabel Owens; three brothers-in-law, Clete Owens, Doug MacKenzie, and Ron Teofilo, and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Polzin.

Visitation for Bill Polzin will be on Friday, Jan. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Louis Church. Liturgy of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. at the church on Friday. Cremation has taken place. Bill's remains will be laid to rest in the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary cemetery at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 11. Members of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post 75 firing squad will conduct graveside military rites.

Cathleen L. Roe
MINOCQUA - Cathleen L. Roe, 57, of Minocqua, died on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Season of Life Hospice House.

The funeral were held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m., at Bolger Funeral Home, Minocqua Chapel. Visitation was from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to the time of service. The Rev. Jim Hoffman officiated.

Mrs. Roe was born on Jan. 16, 1945, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Fred and Eunice (Oathout) Zemp.

Mrs. Roe's hobbies included many outdoor activities, including camping and boating with her family and friends in the northwood's of Wisconsin.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald; children Mathew J. and Jessi R. Roe; stepchildren, Rhonda Harder (Patrick), Waupun, and Tamara Kay Roe, San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Hanna and Claire; two brothers, Fredrick "Bud" (Cathy) Zemp, and Dennis (Laurie) Zemp, Marquette; one sister, Heidi (Bill) Riske, Fox Lake.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Seasons of Life Hospice House, Woodruff.

The Bolger Funeral and Cremation Services, Minocqua, Woodruff and Eagle River, is serving the family.

Roberta J. Germaine
JUNEAU - Roberta J. Germaine, 83, of Juneau, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Juneau. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception cemetery.

Mrs. Germaine was born on Jan. 11, 1919, in Juneau, the daughter of Robert and Irene (Bachhuber) Duffy. She was married to Clarence Germaine in 1939 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Juneau.

Mrs. Germaine was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Parish and a member of the Christian Women.

Survivors include one son, Bruce Germaine, Juneau; three sisters, Mary Schellpfeffer, Horicon, Ruth Triller, Juneau, and Dorothy (Jerome) Beier, Beaver Dam; one brother, Alfred (Joyce) Duffy, Juneau; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Brian; one brother, James Duffy, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene (Carl) Fischbach and Patricia (Dr. Warren) Nordell.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Juneau.

Martha M. Metke
OCONOMOWOC - Martha M. Metke, 95, of 999 Wilkinson Woods, Oconomowoc, died on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at her home.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, Kekoskee. The Rev. Dennis Bratz will officiate. Burial will be in Kekoskee cemetery.

Mrs. Metke was born on Feb. 15, 1907, in the town of Theresa, the daughter of Henry and Minna (Finke) Fink. She was married to Edwin H. Metke on Dec. 17, 1930, in the town of Theresa.

Mrs. Metke together with her husband farmed in the town of Williamstown. She was a member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, Kekoskee. She was a charter member of St. Peter's Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Mayville Senior Citizens.

Survivors include one son, Virgil (Bernice B.) Metke, rural Mayville; one daughter, Carol (Steve) Frankwick, Oconomowoc; one brother, Richard Fink Sr., rural Mayville; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1977; one son, Lloyd K.; one daughter-in-law, Bernice P.; three sisters, Annie, Ella and Mable; three brothers, Henry, Walter and Arthur, and one great grandchild, Emily.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, Kekoskee.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Redecorating Fund.

Lester I. Neitzel
BURNETT - Lester I. Neitzel, 74, of N8531 Fir Road, town of Burnett, died on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Burnett. The Rev. Kenneth Loehrke will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Mr. Neitzel was born on April 24, 1928, in the town of Chester, the son of George C. and Gertrude (Wollenburg) Neitzel. He was married to Charlotte Kraft on Nov. 3, 1956, at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. L.C. Kirst officiated.

Mr. Neitzel was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Burnett. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was very active with the Burnett Fire Department. He was well loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, town of Burnett; two daughters, Christel M. (Luis) Fis, Madison, and Leilani L. (fiance Randy Higgens), Duarte, town of Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, twins Michelle and Jasmine Duarte, town of Beaver Dam, and Mario and Raul Fis, Madison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Evelyn Kienast.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Zion Lutheran Church, Burnett.

Memorials are appreciated to Zion Lutheran Church, Burnett.

Edna Pautsch
Edna Pautsch, 96, formerly of Waupun, died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

No funeral service or visitation per Edna's request. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date at the North Burnett cemetery, town of Burnett.

Edna was born on June 20, 1906, in Dodge County, the daughter of Herman and Louise (Schwantes) Pautsch.

Edna owned and operated Edna's Bar and Supper Club in Fox Lake from 1948 to 1977. She was a resident of Waupun from 1988 until she entered the Beaver Dam Care Center in 1996. Edna was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun.

Survivors include her brother, Forrest Pautsch, Kenosha; three sisters, Elgardie Zurheide, Watertown, Hattie Naffin, Beaver Dam, and Delores (Henry) Holbach, Waupun; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Arnold, Carl, Oris, Herman Jr. and Allen, and two sisters, Elda Neitzel and Ena Kinkel.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun, and to the Beaver Dam Care Center, Beaver Dam.

Gerald R. Ayers
VIROQUA - Gerald R. Ayers, 64, Viroqua, formerly of Racine, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Hanson Funeral Home, Racine. The Rev. David Wierschke will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery, Mayville

Jerry was born on Feb. 8, 1938, in Pontiac, Ill., the son of Wilbur and Irene (Peacock) Ayers. He was married to Verna Klug on May 18, 1957, in Juneau.

Jerry moved to Racine from Mayville in 1976, most recently returning to Mayville this past October. He was a mechanic for Ryder Truck Rental, Racine, for many years. He enjoyed his days on his farm after retiring from Ryder Truck. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Caledonia, until he moved to Viroqua.

Survivors include one son, Timothy Ayers, Burlington; two daughters, Cheryl (Edward) Rebhahn, Viroqua, and Emelia (Patrick) Belland, Milwaukee; six grandchildren; five brothers; three sisters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna on Aug. 26, 2002; one son, Steven, and his parents.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Hanson Funeral Home, Racine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, 7900 Nicholson Road, Caledonia, WI 53108, have been suggested by the family.
