Reverend Gerald Schmidt
Reverend Gerald Schmidt, OFM, Cap., 61, Pastor of St. Ambrose Parish, Wabeno and St. Mary of the Lakes, Lakewood, Crooked Lake and Silver Cliff, died Saturday, May 13, 2000. Visitation was at St. Ambrose Church in Wabeno. A prayer service was held. Mass of Christian burial was Wednesday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at the church with Concelebrants Provincial Father Perry McDonald, St. Joseph province, Detroit and Bishop Robert A. Banks, Green Bay, and other area clergy. Memorials appreciated to Capuchin Retirement Fund or St. Ambrose Parish. Suminski Funeral Home, Wabeno assisted the family.

Gladys Ruth Johnsen Barke
Gladys Ruth Johnsen Barke, 79, Gillett, died unexpectedly at home May 7, 2000. She was born February 11, 1921 in Suring to the late Warren and Clara Grunevald Wilson. Gladys married Adolph Barke in 1940. He preceded her in death January 23, 1955. In 1959 she married Einer Johnsen; he preceded her in death March 9, 1973. Survivors include her two daughters and their families; Sandra Robert Wanner of Oneida, Sally Ann Daniel L. Hansen of Suring; her son and his family, Michael Garnet Barke of Green Bay; one brother, Glenn Wilson of Oconto; one sister, Mary Ann Betty Wilson of Peoria, IL; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Gladys was further preceded in death by her son, Thomas Barke, in 1995, an infant son, Adolph, her three brothers, Benjamine, Ray, and Wallace. Visitation will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring Wednesday, May 10, 2000 starting at 10 a.m. Funeral services Wednesday 12 noon with Pastor Kevin Kuhn officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto, Wednesday 1:30 p.m.

Craig R. Cisar
Craig R. Cisar, 47, Oconto, died Thursday, May 4, 2000 at his home. Craig was born May 24, 1952 in Oconto to LeRoy and Audrey Ihde Cisar. Craig worked at Cruisers as an Engineer since 1971. He also worked as a volunteer EMT for Oconto Falls Area Ambulance Service. Craig was active in the Oconto Falls Lions Club, was a former parishioner and church council member of Grace Lutheran Church, Oconto Falls. Craig loved golfing, hunting, and going to the family cabin. He also enjoyed wood working. Craig was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peshtigo. Craig is survived by two daughters, Amy Cisar, Green Bay; Kara Cisar, Green Bay; his mother, Audrey Cisar, Oconto; good friend and former wife, Diane Cisar, Oconto Falls; five brothers, Gordon Kathy Cisar, Loveland, CO; Daniel Kathy Cisar, Peshtigo; David Cisar, Saukville; Richard Melody Cisar, Oconto; Jeffrey Amy Cisar, Oconto; and two sisters, Lynn Michael Exferd, Oconto; Jill Cisar, Appleton. Craig was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Cisar. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2000 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peshtigo with the Rev. John Shallow officiating and burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

Michael 'M.T.' Reuter
Michael 'M.T.' Reuter, 36, died May 1, 2000 in Antigo, WI. He was born March 9, 1964 in Milwaukee to Arlene Reuter and the late Bernard Reuter. He attended Holy Ghost Elementary in Milwaukee and graduated from Waukesha North High School in 1982. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, outdoor activities, cooking and his dogs Bugsby, Q-Tip, and Gizmo. He is survived by his mother, Arlene Reuter, of Milwaukee; a significant other, Linnea Hills, of Lakewood, WI; one sister; two brothers; and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents and one nephew. Private services were held in Lakewood. Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo assisted with arrangements.

Mable H. Donovan-Kataja 'Terri'
Mable H. Donovan-Kataja 'Terri', 61, Suring, died May 6, 2000 at her daughter's home in Denmark following a courageous battle with cancer. Terri was born August 28, 1938 in Crivitz to the late Henry and Helen Hoppe Weidemeier. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandsons, fishing, reading, playing her keyboard, and being outdoors. Terri attended the Milwaukee Technical School and had been employed at Scott Paper. She raised six children and did home care for the elderly. Survivors include her six children; Michael Schuster of Los Angeles, CA, Debra Kris Larsen of Denmark, WI, Victoria Eighmy of Northeast, PA, Dwight Peggy Schuster of Kempner, TX, Heidi Donovan of Cecil, WI, Jenafir D.J. Garrison of Lakewood, WI; seven grandsons; five brothers, Bob, Raymond, and Alvin Weidemeier all Crivitz, Kenneth Weidemeier of Antigo, Ervin Weidemeier of St. Germaine; four sisters, Sophie Schilder of Milwaukee, Jeanine Trevor Hammet of Las Vegas, NV, Margaret Fendryk of Crivitz, Irene Roger Halquest of Blue Crossing, MI. She also left behind her special friends Dick, Audrey, Richard, Neil, Lynn and Judy. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Peter Weidemeier, and her husband, Toivo Kataja. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, Suring, in charge of arrangements.
At Terri's request private family services will be held.

Robert A. Schmit
Robert A. Schmit, 74, 1862 S. Beaver Trail, Green Bay, died early Sunday, May 7, 2000 after a courageous battle with cancer. He proudly served his country during World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Oconto chapter of the American Legion. He lived at 1532 Main and operated a warehouse resale business in Oconto for many years until his illness. He is survived by his wife, Harriet; ten children, Joanne, Jeanne, John, Jim, Janet, Jerry, Jane, Joel, Jennifer and Jill and their spouses; 15 grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters, and many wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 10 at the Fort Howard Memorial Park Chapel in Green Bay. The family will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. until noon, with the service to follow at noon. Blaney Funeral Home, Green Bay, is assisting the Schmit family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his honor.

Justine Reichelt
Justine Reichelt, 92, a resident of Woodland Village Nursing Home in Suring died May 7, 2000. She was born in the Town of How to the late Ernest and Margaretta Hischke Schuettpelz on March 12, 1908. Justine was confirmed and baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hayes. She married Ferdinand Reichelt. The couple lived in Illinois many years. Ferdinand preceded her in death in 1980. Justine was a very family oriented individual who returned to Suring in 1990 to be close to her brothers, sisters, and her hometown and many other descendants of her family. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hayes. Survivors include her daughter, Jewel Dennis 'Buz' Gerches of Bedford, IN; her son, Fred Diane Reichelt of Danville, CA; two grandchildren, Christine Todd Tuescher of Castro Valley, CA; Brian Reichelt of New York City; one great-grandchild, Tyler Jacob Tuescher of Castro Valley, CA. Justine was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 11, 2000 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hayes beginning at 10 a.m. Funeral services 11 a.m. with Pastor Russell Kampfer officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, Suring, in charge of arrangements.

Walter Ellmann
Funeral services for Oconto native and former resident Walter Ellmann, will be held Saturday, May 13, at 4 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, St. Joseph site.

Mrs. Gordon 'Isabel' Zillmer
Mrs. Gordon (Isabel) Zillmer, 84, 969 Mather St., died Monday, May 1, 2000. She was born July 8, 1915 in Green Bay to the late William and Anna (Basten) Adriaens. On September 14, 1938, she married Gordon Zillmer at St. Willebrord Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Gordon; one son, William Zillmer, Sr. Madison; two grandchildren, William Zillmer Jr., Julie and Steven Cary, all of Madison. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Thompson and Gertrude Adriaens. Friends may call at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray St. from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Joseph Coopmans O.Praem officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. Isabel’s family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Woodside Lutheran Home for their kindness and friendship. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Florence T. Van Deurzen
Florence T. Van Deurzen, 82, De Pere, died unexpectedly on May 5, 2000. She is the daughter of the late Albert and Louise (Willems) Vander Heiden. Florence was born on Oct. 31, 1917, in De Pere, where she was a lifelong resident. She married Leo H. Van Deurzen on Sept. 16, 1941. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2000. Florence was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Community of De Pere, where she was a kitchen helper for funerals and belonged to the St. Mary’s Christian Ladies. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul and was employed by the Lee Store for over 20 years. Florence was a very special woman who cherished and loved her family, especially her grandchildren, friends and neighbors. She lovingly devoted 33 years to caring for her disabled husband, Leo. Her greatest joy was caring for, giving, and helping others. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her children who were privileged to have had her for a mother. She is survived by her three sons, Joseph & Teri (Mickelson) Van Deurzen, De Pere, John & Patricia (Klarkowski) Van Deurzen, Overland Park, Kan., James Van Deurzen & fiancé Rosanne Cheeseman, Mazomanie; two daughters, Mary & Glenn Schmidt, Green Bay, and Margaret Van Deurzen, Green Bay. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Cheryl Cappucci, Jerry Van Deurzen, Daniel and Paul Schmidt, one-great-grandchild, Marina Maney; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Vanden Elzen and Agnes Hannon, both of De Pere. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Van Deurzen; and granddaughter, Teresa; six sisters, Martha, Bertha, Emma, Kay, Hattie, Marie, and two brothers, Neil and Lawrence. Visitation will continue from noon until the time of service Monday, May 8, 2000 (today), at St. Mary Catholic Community, Pope John XXIII Circle off Sportsman Drive, town of Ledgeview. Mass of Christian Burial 1:30 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Gery Meehan O.Praem. officiating. Entombment will be in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, is assisting the family.
