BUCKHANNON -- Glen Thomas Tolliver, 73, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. He was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Frenchton, a son of the late Homer Tolliver and Loveta Whetzel Tolliver.
His wife, Annabelle Gaunt Tolliver, whom he married Nov. 12, 1953, in Hagerstown, Md., survives.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Stacey and Patricia Tolliver, French Creek, Stefan and Kim Tolliver, New Orleans, Louis.; one daughter, Terecia and Arthur Alton, Weston; five grandchildren, Tiffany and Brooke Alton, Weston, Audrey Tolliver, New Orleans, Marshall and Matt Tolliver, French Creek; his mother-in-law, Audria Gaunt, Tennerton; one sister, Marie Nutter, Dunbar; one uncle, French Tolliver, Front Royal, Va.; one niece and nephew, Barbara Drake and Curtis Nutter; several close cousins. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremy Todd Weaver.
Mr. Tolliver was United Methodist. He worked for B&O Railroad before becoming a master painter at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. He retired in 1987 from Wesleyan, though he continued to paint for several years.
He was an avid gardener and supplied his family and friends with garden produce.
Rollen E. Watson
Rollen E. "Chaney" Watson, 63, of Reynoldsville, died suddenly Thursday, April 22, 1999, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins. He was born in Reynoldsville, Oct. 2, 1935, a son of the late Herman E. and Audrey P. Bailey Watson.
Surviving are three sons, Rick Watson and his wife, Jan, Salem, Rollen E. "Chaney" Watson II and his wife, Lisa, Shinnston, and Christopher L. Watson and Lori, Reynoldsville; one daughter, Pam Nicholson and Bill Cavins, Salem; nine grandchildren, Rusty and Katrina Nicholson, Jeremy, Laurie, Christopher and Maranda Watson, Miriah Hardy, Lynsie and Meghan Watson; one brother, Robert M. Watson, Clarksburg; one sister, Betty Gould, Clarksburg; several nieces, nephews and special friends; and his fishing buddy, Frank Campbell. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Edith Zorick and one granddaughter, Jennifer Marie Watson.
Mr. Watson was a retired painter with Local No. 804, International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades with 35 years of service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Shinnston American Legion Post No. 31 and the National Rifle Association. He was Baptist and an avid fisherman.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St. in Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Marino officiating. Interment will be in the Coplin cemetery.
Effie D. Deulley
GLENVILLE -- Effie Dobbins Deulley, 93, of Gilmer County, died at 9:08 p.m. Friday, April 23, 1999, at Minnie Hamilton Hospital, Grantsville, following an extended illness. She was born May 2, 1905, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Worthy and Martha Dobbins. She married Leeman Deulley, who preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1998.
Surviving are one son, Rolland Carr, North Carolina; one brother, Oren Dobbins, Ohio; one sister, Annie Stump, Gassaway; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers, three sisters, one grandson and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Deulley was a homemaker and Baptist.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville, with the Rev. Kenneth Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Piper Fork cemetery.
Peter A. Foppiano
Peter "Pete" Anthony Foppiano, 90, of 308 Vermont Ave., Clarksburg, died Friday, April 23, 1999, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
He was born in New York City, N.Y., Jan. 6, 1909, a son of the late Joseph Foppiano and Adelaide Scagnelli Foppiano.
His wife, Thelma Lucille Foppiano, preceded him in death on May 23, 1996.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Mary Frances Foppiano, Clarksburg; and three grandchildren, Judie Foppiano, Jill Foppiano Williams and Jaclyn Foppiano.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Judith A. Foppiano; two sisters, Marion Aliveto and Angeline Chenoweth and one brother, Joseph Foppiano.
Mr. Foppiano was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clarksburg. He owned and operated the former A&F Produce Co.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Cross cemetery. A Biblical Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Carol J. Groves
Carol Jean Groves, 70, of 1306 Van Buren St., Clarksburg, died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999, at her residence.
She was born in Enterprise, June 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Jennings Mitchell Burton and Carol O. Wharton Burton.
Her husband, Glen W. Groves, whom she married July 29, 1948, preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1980.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Carol Ann) Norris, Clarksburg; two granddaughters, Tiffani Carol Norris and Kari Glennette Norris; one great-granddaughter, Emily Carol Murphy; two nieces, Alecia Ann Sirk and Kenna Jean Sirk; and a special friend, Brooks Burner Sr. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother and a sister, Patsy Ann Sirk.
Mrs. Groves was a Methodist and a 1946 graduate of the former Roosevelt-Wilson High School.
She was retired as executive secretary for the superintendent of Harrison County Schools and the Harrison County Board of Education.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St. in Clarksburg from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Edsil Bragg presiding. Interment will be in Greenlawn Masonic cemetery.
Arthur E. Gore
BRIDGEPORT -- Arthur E. Gore, 52, of 106 Sistersville Pike, West Union, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born Nov. 7, 1946, in Orlando, Fla., a son of the late Clifton Leon Gore and Evelyn May Shiflet Gore.
Surviving are one son and his wife, Tim M. and Helen Gore, West Union; one grandson, T.J. Gore, West Union; one brother and his wife, James Donald and Betty Jane Gore, Sardis; one sister, Delores Gibson, Clarksburg; and a special companion, Debbie Baker, East Orange, N.J. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Gore and one brother, Jeff Leon Gore.
Mr. Gore graduated from Victory High School in 1965 and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Salem College. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served two tours in the U.S. Army. He was a road construction worker on the dynamite crew, having participated in the construction of Interstate 79 from Gassaway to Charleston. He was also an independent truck driver.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center Chapel in Clarksburg at a time and date to be announced this week. The Rev. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, is in charge of arrangements.
Bernice L. Kontak
Bernice Lenore Kontak, 79, of 12 Hillcrest Lane, Bridgeport, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, April 23, 1999, at United Hospital Center. She was born in Coalton, June 28, 1919, a daughter of the late William Smrek and Anna Marshalek Smrek.
Her husband, Stanley S. Kontak, whom she married June 12, 1954, preceded her in death on May 8, 1989.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen S. and Gail Kontak, Albuquerque, N.M., and James W. and Cindy Kontak, Bridgeport; one granddaughter, Danielle Louise Kontak; one grandson, David Stanley Kontak; one sister, Mrs. Mary Shack, Clarksburg; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Smrek and five sisters, Helen Kopson, Anna Smrek, Julia Velegol, Sophia Kurucz and Stella Kurucz.
Mrs. Kontak was a graduate of Philippi High School and held a bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from West Virginia University.
She taught at Osage Jr. High School and University High School in Morgantown and at St. Mary's Elementary and Jr. High School in Clarksburg.
Mrs. Kontak had been a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she had been president of the Parish Council and the Holy Rosary Society. After the closing of Holy Trinity Church she became a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and more recently became a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport.
She was a member and past regent of Clarksburg Court No. 334, Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She also belonged to AARP and Harrison County Senior Citizens.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. On Monday, friends will be received in All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Father Harry Cramer as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
Members of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will hold rosary devotions in All Saints Church at 4 p.m. Monday and a vigil service will be conducted in the church at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Agnes M. Leffler
BUCKHANNON -- Agnes M. Leffler, 95, of Holbrook Nursing Home, Buckhannon, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at the nursing home. She was born July 18, 1903, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late David C. Smith and Fidella Liggett Smith.
Her husband, Isaac Manuel Leffler, whom she married in 1924, preceded her in death in 1972.
Surviving are four cousins, Russell and Henry Smith, both of Buckhannon, Orla Smith, Sewickley, Pa., and Erma Casto, Ellenboro. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Georgia Radabaugh and one brother, William Smith.
Mrs. Leffler was owner of Leffler's Restaurant and attended Dove Street United Methodist Church in Clarksburg.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, Inc. in Buckhannon. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. William C. Eskew Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner cemetery.
Agnes L. Rogers
PENNSBORO -- Agnes Lucille Rogers, 79, of Ellenboro, died Friday, April 23, 1999, in Parkersburg.
She was born Jan. 22, 1920, near Pennsboro in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Henry C. and Amanda Bode Schulte.
Her first husband, George Jones, and her second husband, James Preston Rogers, both preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Lillian Kay Thornton, Dover, Del., Patricia A. Zinn, Pennsboro, and Virginia R. Terry, Little Hocking, Ohio; three sons, James P. Rogers Jr., Tucson, Ariz., Samuel C. Rogers, Harrisville, and Dewey W. Jones, Yawkey; two brothers, Floyd Schulte, Ellenboro, and Joseph Schulte, Tucson; one sister, Rebecca Nielsen, Barstow, Calif.; and 14 grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jo Clair Babb and two sisters, Mary Schulte and Lucille Jones.
Mrs. Rogers retired from the former Colin-Anderson Center of St. Marys, where she worked as a nurse's aide. She was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1939 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Ellenboro.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Harrisville Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Perine officiating. Interment will be in the Masonic cemetery at Ellenboro. Friends may call at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, after 5 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Monday at the Harrisville Baptist Church.

Ernest E. Berry
SHINNSTON -- Ernest Edwin "Ernie¨ Berry, 69, of Wyatt, died Friday, April 23, 1999, in Fairmont General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born March 21, 1930, in Wyatt, a son of the late John C. and Ora Griffin Berry. His wife, Shirley Ashcraft Berry, whom he married Sept. 5, 1959, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Tammy) Elza and Mrs. Duke (Debbie) Mayle, both of Wyatt; three grandchildren, Kellie Mayle, and Caitlin and Jacob Elza; one sister, Katheryn Moore, Bingamon; one sister-in-law, Lyda Berry, Bingamon; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by one brother, John C. Berry Jr. and one sister, Barbara McDougal.
Mr. Berry was retired from Consolidation Coal Co., Whetstone Mine No. 20. He had been a miner for 35 years. He graduated from Mannington High School in 1946.
He was a member of St. John's Lodge No. 24, A.F.&A.M., the Loyal Order of the Moose, No. 929, Shinnston, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, Wheeling Consistory and attended the Wyatt United Methodist Church.
Friends were received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Toni Beecher officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF cemetery, Wyatt.
