Mineral Wells, WV
Campsie F. Eaton Scott, 93, of Mineral Wells
passed away Oct. 14, 2007, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 28, 1914, at Wadesville, a
daughter of the late Marion D. and Mandy Ella
Terrell Eaton. She was a member of the
Pettyville United Methodist Church, was a 29-
year employee of Corning Glass Works as a
glass cutter, served as a volunteer with
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for 13 years
and assisted her husband, the Rev. Seldon A.
Scott in his ministry for many years.
Surviving is her son, Larry W. Scott (Karen)
of Parkersburg; a daughter, Kathleen (Paul)
Morris of Pearland, Texas; 12 grandchildren;
22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-
grandchild; one sister, Opal Baker of Duncan
Falls, Ohio; and a son-in-law, Raymond Bennett
of Parkersburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, she
was preceded in death by two daughters,
Lilliam Sams and Phyliss Bennett; and
brothers, infant Glenn Eaton, Donald Eaton and
Dale Eaton.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Sunset
Memory Gardens. The visitation will be from 2-
4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Carla Jean West
Newport, OH
Carla Jean West, 43, of Newport went home to
Heaven to be with the Lord Oct. 12, 2007. She
passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born in Parkersburg, Jan. 6, 1964, a
daughter of Shirley M. Coats West of
Parkersburg and the late Carl E. West Sr.
Carla was affiliated with the Methodist Church
on Newell’s Run at Newport.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by
her son, James Bailey (Leisah) of Pearl City,
Hawaii; two grandchildren, Jordan and Dylan
Bailey, both of Hawaii; her fiance, Rod White
and his children, Cole White, Reed White, Joe
White and Alishia White; one brother, Carl E.
West II of Parkersburg; two sisters, Theresa
(Paul) Midcap Jr. of Parkersburg and Debra
(Peter) Freeman of England; one niece,
Priscilla (Rusty) Blosser of Parkersburg;
three nephews, Paul Midcap III of Parkersburg,
Joey Dotson and Ricky Dotson, both of
Parkersburg; one great-niece; seven great-
nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in
death by her grandparents and a great-nephew,
Baby Michael (Mikey) Midcap.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg. She will be laid to rest at
Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Olley French Young
Deerwalk, WV
Olley French Young, 85, of Deerwalk, W.Va.,
went home to be with the Lord Oct. 7, 2007, at
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Braxton County, a son of the
late James H. Young and Rebeccah Belle
Stalnaker Young. He retired from O Ames in
1984, after 42 years of service. He was a
member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church
for 58 years, having served as deacon and
Sunday School superintendent and he had been
attending Big Run Independent Church at Cairo
where he served as superintendent. French was
known as a super gardener and was loved by all
who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise Moreland
Young; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and
Gracie Young of Newark, Ohio; three
grandchildren, Jennifer (Cary) Hock of
Granville, Ohio, Tonya (Tyler) Kidner of
Sharpsburg, Ga., and Kevin (Suzanne) Young of
Newark, Ohio; he also has five great-
grandchildren, Terran Kidner, Taylor Kidner,
Britney Young, Emma Hock and Allison Hock; and
two sisters, Marjorie Hughes of Wilsie, W.Va.,
and Carol Gastkins of Maryland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his daughter, Sandra Nutter; a baby
grandson; brothers, Orville, Wiley, Berchel
and Eugene Young; and sisters, Gertrude Rose,
Gladys Clegg, Mona Sole and an infant sister.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday
at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Bernard Vandergrift
and Pastor Doug Guinn officiating. Burial will
follow at the Skidmore Cemetery near Dallison.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Donald Gene Amos
Chickamauga, GA
Donald Gene Amos, 60, of Chickamauga, Ga., and
a native of Belleville, W.Va., passed away Oct. 1, 2007, in Georgia.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving
during the Vietnam War. Don retired in 2001
from the Tennessee Valley Authority after 25
years of service. As a physicist, he played
several important roles in the start up of the
Sequoyah Nuclear Plant in the early ’80’s and
contributed substantially to its successful
operation over the following two decades. Don
was highly respected by his co-workers for his
expertise in radiation monitoring as well as
his professionalism, insight and mentoring
skills.
Don is survived by his wife of 35 years,
Brenda Amos and his two sons, Anthony Paul
Amos of Seattle, Wash., and Brian Ashley Amos
of Atlanta, Ga. His family remembers him as an
exceptionally reliable, hard working and
responsible man who was always willing to help
those who needed him. Those who knew him were
routinely beneficiaries of his pragmatic
forethought, playful humor, active involvement
and sound advice.
Don is also survived by his two
granddaughters, Chandler Amos Hyde of
Rossville, Ga., Lauren Elizabeth Amos of
Seattle, Wash.; his mother, Alice Shockley
Amos of Bridgewater, Va.; two brothers,
Phillip Reed (Jackie) Amos of Holton, Ind.,
and Kim (Kimberly) Amos of Tunnell Hill, Ga.;
two sisters, Nancy Amos (Joe) Duncan of
Bridgewater, Va., and Sueette Amos (Mike) Hupp
of Washington, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by his father, Heisel
Eugene Amos.
The funeral and burial will be 2 p.m. Oct. 9
at Pond Creek Baptist Church near his hometown
of Belleville, W.Va. Visitation will be one
hour prior to the service at the church on
Tuesday.
