Elma M. Stanley
Vienna, WV
Elma M. Stanley of Vienna passed away Sept.
14, 2007, following an extended illness.
She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the
late Charles and Rae Somerville Hickman.
Elma was a member of the Broadway Baptist
Church and had worked for 33 years as a
secretary at Tygart Elementary School and was
a former employee of American Viscose. She was
a former member of the Parkersburg Womans
Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the
Wood County Retired Employees Association.
Surviving is her son, Stephen T. and Judy
Stanley of Vienna; three grandchildren, Carol
Pfahl and her husband, Dave, of Sterling,
Mass., Kelly Hortman and her husband, Lee, of
Raleigh, N.C., and Dr. Stephen Stanley and his
wife, Susan, of Williamstown; six great-
grandchildren, Braden and Ellis Phahl, Katie,
Abby and Casey Stanley and Hannah Hortman; one
sister, Elizabeth Headley of Parkersburg; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Robert M. Stanley in 1966; two brothers,
Robert L. Hickman and Ed Hickman; and a
sister, Garnet Hunt.
The funeral service for Elma will be 2 p.m.
Monday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Duane Porter
officiating. Burial will follow at Parkersburg
Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-8
p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Lena T. Hawk Ohse
Parkersburg, WV
Lena T. Hawk Ohse, 88, of Parkersburg passed
away Sept. 14, 2007, at Worthington Manor.
She was born at Gay, W.Va., a daughter of the
late Lewis Halbert and Nora Elizabeth Thomas
Hawk.
Lena was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Ohse (Kathy) of
Waverly and Billy J. West (Cindy L.) of
Parkersburg; one daughter, Edith Fay Miller of
Parkersburg; a foster daughter, Virginia Armel
of Parkersburg; and numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Isaiah M. Ohse; three sons, Walter, Johnny and
Jimmy Ohse; a brother, Bill Hawk; and a
sister, Alma Sams.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m.
Monday at the Wadesville Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Kimes Funeral
Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg.
Charles Foster Litton
Mineral Wells, WV
Charles Foster Litton, 76, of Mineral Wells
passed away Sept. 12, 2007, at Camden-Clark
Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 24, 1931, at Ona, W.Va., a
son of the late Perry Virgil and Hattie Mae
Drake Litton.
Mr. Litton retired from DuPont in 1991 and was
a former employee of Eureka Pipeline. He was
an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and
gardening. He was a graduate of Walton High
School and served in the United States Air
Force during the Korean War.
Surviving is his wife, H. Genevieve Perkins
Litton; one son, Bob Litton and his wife,
Teresa, of Mineral Wells; a daughter, Kim
Litton Tribble and her husband, Dale, of
Huntington; two grandchildren, Kristy Litton
Cramlet and Eric Litton; a great-grandson,
Austin Litton; one brother, James Willard
Litton of Parkersburg; three sisters, Ruth
Lowther and her husband, Bill, of Parkersburg,
Hazeline Furr of Lakewood, Ohio, and Arlene
Wilson of Magnolia, Ark.; and several nieces
and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by two brothers, Oral Litton and Paul
Litton; and two sisters, Maxine Hall and Ruby
Morris.
The funeral service for Mr. Litton will be 11
a.m. Saturday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth
St., Parkersburg, with Pastors Paul Williams
and Bob Watkins officiating. Burial will
follow at the Mt. Herman Cemetery in Roane
County. The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m.
today at the funeral home.
Edith Angus Perdue Williams
Belpre, OH
Edith Angus Perdue Williams, 93, of Belpre,
formerly of Parkersburg, passed away Sept. 11,
2007, at Arcadia Nursing Center, where she had
been a resident for the past three years.
She was born July 20, 1914, in Jackson County,
a daughter of the late Ed and Alice Dailey
Angus.
Edith was of the Methodist faith, was a
homemaker and enjoyed attending church
services and helping other people.
Surviving are two sons, Bill Perdue and Robert
Perdue, both of Belpre; five grandchildren,
Mark, Michael and Luanna Perdue and Vickie and
Phillip Reynolds; five great-grandchildren;
one sister, Lucille Maddox of Sandyville; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first
husband, Leslie Perdue; her second husband,
Bill Williams; four brothers, Herbert, Homer,
Willy and Ernest Angus; and four sisters,
Goldie McCauley, Ethel Weekley, Clarestine
Wilkinson and Annie McCauley.
The funeral service for Edith will be 1:30
p.m. Friday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth
St., Parkersburg. The Rev. David Holdren will
officiate with burial to follow at the
Rockland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4
p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home
Ben G. Powell
St. Mary's, WV
Ben G. Powell, 30, of the St. Marys area
passed away Sept. 9, 2007.
Cremation arrangements are being made with
Kimes Funeral Home & Cremation Services of
Parkersburg.
Earl Russell Modesitt
Washington, WV
Earl Russell Modesitt, 89, of Washington,
W.Va., and a resident of Eagle Pointe for the
past four years, passed away Sept. 7, 2007, at
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
Earl was born April 3, 1918, at Walker, a son
of the late John Sherman and Jessie Mae
Modesitt. He retired from Johns Manville
Corporation and was a former longtime employee
of the FMC Corporation. He had served with the
U.S. Navy during World War II (Seabeas) (57th
Battalion). He was a wonderful father and
enjoyed raising a garden.
Surviving are two sons, Okey Ankrom of
Washington, W.Va., and James Ankrom of Newton,
N.J.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Bean of Granbury,
Texas; five grandchildren, Phaedra Retnan,
Bessie and Shane Ankrom and Molly and Abigail
Ankrom; and two great-grandchildren, Devon Ray
and Mia Rose Retnan.
Earl was recently preceded in death by his
wife, H. Grace Tanner Modesitt; two brothers,
Leonard and Cecil Modesitt; and a sister, Sue
Curry.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Bernard “Dobby”
Thrash officiating. Entombment will follow at
the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum of Sunset Memory
Gardens. The visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8
p.m. Monday.
