George D. Boone
Parkersburg, WV
George D. Boone, 79, of Parkersburg, passed
away July 26, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial
Hospital.
He was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Wood County, a
son of the late Elmer Clay and Sophia Anna
Beorn Boone.
George had owned and operated service stations
in the Parkersburg area and a tire business in
Ripley. He had served in the Army Air Force
during the Occupational Period following World
War II, was a member of the American Legion
Post 15 of Parkersburg and enjoyed reading
history books.
Surviving is his wife, Roberta V. Lieber
Boone; two sons, Douglas E. Boone and his
wife, Stephanie, of Parkersburg and Gregory
Scott Boone and his wife, Tammy, of Cape
Coral, Fla.; a daughter, Beth Anne Carter and
her husband, Shaun, of Parkersburg; 11
grandchildren, Chad Boone, Jeremy Boone,
Joshua Boone, Robert Boone, Ryan Boone,
Abigail Boone, Sarah Boone, Benjamin Carter,
Jacob Boone, Matthew Carter and Meredith
Carter; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Boone;
one sister, Luelva Looney of Vienna; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by a son, Rodney Brooks Boone on Dec.
26, 1976; eight brothers; and six sisters.
The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with his nephew, the Rev. Kent
Boone officiating. Burial will follow at the
Hopewell Cemetery with military rites
conducted by the American Legion Post 15.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today
at the funeral home.
Vernice M. "Patty" Hickman
Rt 1 Elizabeth (Jackson County), WV
Vernice M. "Patty" Hickman, 72, of Route 1,
Elizabeth (Jackson County), passed away July
23, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in
Parkersburg.
She was born March 11, 1935, at Windy, W.Va.,
a daughter of the late Hugh and Ethel Merle
McPherson Corns. She was a member of Lochart
United Methodist Church, was a member of the
Sandyville Senior Citizens and was a homemaker.
Surviving are her sons, David Corns of
Elizabeth, Harold L. Hickman of Elizabeth and
John Max Hickman and his wife, Connie, of
Parkersburg; three daughters, Jackie West and
her husband, Nile, of Parkersburg, Cheryl West
and her husband, Leo, of Rockport and Karen
Freshour and her husband, Jake, of Mineral
Wells; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-
grandchildren; and a brother, Billy Corns of
Beaver Creek, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Richard "Pete" Hickman; and an infant son,
Allen Keith Hickman.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at
the Lochart United Methodist Church on Route
21 with the Rev. Annette Carper and the Rev.
Vera Archer officiating. Burial will follow at
the Pine Hill Cemetery in Ripley. Visitation
will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral
home, and from 11 a.m. until service time
Thursday at the church.
Evelyn C. Wooddell
Parkersburg, WV
Evelyn C. Wooddell, 91, of Parkersburg passed
away July 20, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial
Hospital.
She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Pennsboro,
Ritchie County, a daughter of the late
Ella “Peggy” Spiker Clark and Lon Clark.
Evelyn raised her children before working
outside the home and then for many years was
employed at Buckeye Mart in Athens, Ohio.
Later she opened her own craft and needlework
shop, “Nanny’s Nook” at The Plains, Ohio, near
Athens.
Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn Currey
and husband, Wayne, of Parkersburg; two sons,
William “Bill” Wooddell and wife, Stephanie,
of Athens and James “Jim” Wooddell and wife,
Jane, of McArthur, Ohio; eight grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Jackson D. Wooddell;
a son, Jackson C. Wooddell; and a brother,
Junior Gale Clark.
Evelyn attended Trinity United Methodist
Church in Parkersburg and was an active member
of the Willing Workers Class there. She loved
the Lord, her family and her many, many
friends. Her grandchildren and great-
grandchildren, who knew her as “Nanny, ” were
such a great joy to her.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at
Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St.,
Parkersburg, with Pastor Jim Burdette
officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory
Gardens, Route 50 West, Athens, with committal
service at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 6-9
p.m. Monday at the Kimes Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the staff of
One West and the Transitional Care Unit at
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for the loving
care that was extended to her over the past
two months.

Elizabeth Burk Guinn
Parkersburg, WV
Elizabeth Burk Guinn, formerly of Fairview
Avenue, and a resident at Wyngate Assisted
Living, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg.
She was born March 26, 1913, at Petroleum,
Ritchie County, W.Va., to Robert and Rebecca
Burk. A graduate of Parkersburg High School
and Western College at Oxford, Ohio, she had
taught at Washington Junior High and later at
Parkersburg High School. Mrs. Guinn had been a
member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church
for more than 80 years. She was also a member
of PEO and the Parkersburg Women’s Club.
In 1937, she married Vernon “Bus” Guinn, who
preceded her in death in 1986.
She is survived by Robert (Terri) Shohan of
Honolulu, Hawaii, and Dorothy (Doug) Browning
and Paul (Cheryl) Shohan of San Francisco,
Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and
two sisters, Evelyn Burk and Helen Shohan.
A memorial service for Elizabeth Guinn will be
held at Kimes Funeral Home in Parkersburg at
the convenience of the her family. The service
will be followed by a committal service at Mt.
Olivet Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
