Jacob A. Harsh
Jacob A. Harsh, age 23, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, November 20, 2009 at his home. He was born October 7, 1986 in Buckhannon the son of Robert L. and Carrie L. Thorpe Harsh of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents he is survived by maternal grandparents, Ray and Joyce Thorpe of Queens, WV, maternal grandmother, Violet Lucas of Freeport, PA and paternal grandparents, Joyce and Dan Brown of Buckhannon. He was preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Matthew Harsh. Jacob served with the US Army 101st Airborne in Afghanistan. Friends will be received Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from 10-11 AM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery in Barbour County, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James L. Hamman
James L. Hamman, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, February 5, 2010 at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV after a brief illness. He was born December 18, 1931 in Elkins, WV a son of the late Roy S. and Edna Channel Hamman. On October 6, 1951 he was married and devoted to Doris Babe Conley and celebrated 58 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hamman is survived by three sons, David Hamman of Snowshoe, WV, Bill Hamman and fianc Diane McDonald of Winchester, VA and Jeff Hamman of Buckhannon; one daughter, Amy Hall of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Derek Hamman of Snowshoe, Jeremy Hall of Moundsville and Joshua and Nicholas Hamman of Winchester; two granddaughters, Jessica Stump and husband Brian of Snowshoe and Hillary Hamman of Winchester; great grandson, Jayden Hall of South Carolina; one brother, Richard Hamman and wife Ernestine of Peachtree City, GA; Two sisters Anita Kiesel and husband Hank of Carmel, IN, Janet Amiott of Virginia Beach, VA; cousin Herman J. Isner of Kerns, WV and several nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by his many close friends the gang and a family who will always remember his love and caring. He has been the daily caretaker for three loyal four legged buddies, Sammy, Zale, and Teddy who will greatly miss their devoted friend. He attended WV University in 1949, served 4 years in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956, and then returned to work in Akron, OH at B.F. Goodrich for two years. Jim and his family moved to Buckhannon in 1958 to work with his father at Hamman NAPA Auto Parts store; and later when his father retired, was the owner of the business a total of 25 years. He worked at a local bank and retired after 10 years of service and worked at Shop and Save part time until the store closed. He was retired at the time of his death. Jim was active in the community from the beginning as a member and officer in Jaycees and Jaycee programs with youth, Buckhannon Kiwanis Club, was a volunteer fireman for 25 years, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Buckhannon Community Theater, Past President of Buckhannon Country Club, Buckhannon AARP, officer and trustee of the LOOM, Buckhannon Moose Lodge #598, Member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, and past president of the WV Strawberry Festival. He was an active member of Franklin Lodge #7 AF&AM, Upshur Co. Shrine Club Osiris Temple Wheeling, WV, a long time president of Upshur County Shrine Shuttle Patrol and Upshur County Chapter 34 Royal Arch Masons, American Legion Post #7 and American Legion Honor Guard. He was also a census taker for the last census, and worked the polls in primary and local elections for the past several years. Friends will be received Monday, February 8, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Mr. Hamman will lie in state from 12-1 PM the funeral hour at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Joseph Shreve officiating. Burial will follow at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside with Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 and #36. Franklin Lodge #7 AF&AM will follow with Masonic graveside rites. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospitals in Jims name at 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505 or online at www.shrinershq.org/Hospitals/Erie/. Kermit Craig Hawkins
Kermit Craig Hawkins, age 56, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born August 10, 1953 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Lida C. and Sarah Gooden Hawkins. On April 14, 1990 he married Marilyn Suder who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Hawkins and wife Megan of Avon, CO and Jamie Hawkins of Tennerton, WV; two daughters, Kimberly C. Hawkins of Beckley, WV and Dakota D. Hawkins of Buckhannon; one grandson, Christian M. Hawkins of Elkins, WV; three granddaughters, Jasmine C. Hawkins of Elkins, Veronica S. Hawkins of Avon and Sarah J. Hawkins of Tennerton; one brother, L. Kevin Hawkins and wife Jeani of Tallmansville, WV; two sisters, Imelda Osburn and husband Jack of Mt. Union, WV and Lurae Currence and husband Sonny of Queens, WV and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Myers and Marsha Brandenburg. Mr. Hawkins was a Christian by faith. He was an auto body technician, avid hunter and fisherman and loving husband, father and grandfather. Friends will be received Saturday, June 26, 2010 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Lee Hamrick
Richard Lee Hamrick, age 61, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his home. He was born February 23, 1949 in Carlise, PA, a son of the late Benjamin F. and Grace Virginia George Hamrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Daisy Cunningham. He is survived by his former wife, Julia Hamrick of Buckhannon; three sons, David S. Hamrick and wife Amanda of Buckhannon, Jason M. Hamrick of Weston, WV and Christopher J. Hamrick and fiance Kristiana Bishop of Jane Lew, WV; one daughter, Jennifer L. Knight of Louisville, OH; his twin brother, Ralph J. Hamrick and wife Nancy A. of Buckhannon, two brothers, Benjamin F. Hamrick and Tawana Linger of Camden, WV, Jesse Doddrell and wife Ann of Bath, PA and a brother in law, Robert Cunningham of Buckhannon; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Hamrick was a construction worker, an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, camping and horseback riding. He was a Baptist by faith. Friends will be received Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery at Excelsior, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Boyd Drexel Marteney
Boyd Drexel Marteney, age 85, of 18 Sedgewick St., Buckhannon, WV, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born July 15, 1922 in Upshur County, a son of the late Drexel B. and Arba Gertrude Marteney Marteney. On July 26, 1952 he married Alberta L. Nitz who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Boyd L. Marteney of Weston, WV, Gary Marteney and wife Donna of Baltimore, MD and Ryan Marteney of Buckhannon; two daughters, Victoria Abel and husband Robert of Buckhannon and Beth Ann Marteney of Buckhannon; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Crawford of Buckhannon. Mr. Marteney worked for the City of Buckhannon Street Department for many years and was a Methodist by faith. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Tuesday, April 22, 2009 from 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Marteney Cemetery on Swamp Run. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James 'Jim' Rex Harper
James 'Jim' Rex Harper, age 38, of Elkins, WV died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born July 28, 1972 in Grand Rapids, MI, a son of Rose Mary Pickens Harper of Buckhannon and the late Ordith Rex Harper. In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, Shelton, Eric and Samuel Harper all of Elkins; former wife, Gloria Shaffer of Elkins; one sister, Dena Andrew and husband Adam of Shepherdstown, WV; one nephew, Christopher Andrew of Shepherdstown; uncles, Bob Harper of Buckhannon and Steve Harper of Fairmont, WV; cousins, Donna Hull and husband Donald of Pickens, WV and Tina Hull and husband Chet of Buckhannon. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Pickens; maternal grandmother, Orpha Goldsmith; paternal grandfather, Coy Harper and paternal grandmother, Berniece Harper. Jim was a clerk for the Dairy Mart in Elkins. He was Pentecostal by faith. Jim was a big barrel of laughs; fun loving, easy going person and he will be greatly missed and was loved by all who knew him. Friends will be received Monday, January 17, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. James Lee Haskins
James Lee Haskins, age 56, of Monroe, NC died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. He was born June 25, 1954 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late John T. Haskins, Sr. and Oma Smith Haskins. He is survived by one brother, John T. Haskins, Jr., and wife Judy of Buckhannon; one nephew, Jonathan Haskins of Buckhannon; one niece, Amanda Jones and husband J.W. of Elkins, WV and one great-niece, Kourtney Jones of Elkins. Mr. Haskins was a High School Teacher at Butler High School. Friends will be received Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Big Bend Church Cemetery at Sago, WV. Richard Dale Landis
Richard Dale Landis, age 79, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. He was born April 7, 1934 in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late William Forrest and Loverna Pearl Armstrong Landis. On March 19, 1955 he married Loretta J. Sommerville who survives. Also surviving are four sons, twin son Richard W. Landis and wife Diane of Buckhannon, twin son, William R. Landis and wife Mary of French Creek, WV, David Dale Landis and wife Michelle and Anthony Ray Landis and wife Mandy, all of Buckhannon; three daughters, Lora A. Long and husband Jack and Loverna Marie Gillum and husband Max, all of French Creek and Lenora L. Landis and husband John Butcher of Weston, WV; nine grandsons, Richard Long of Elkins, WV, Michael Landis of Weston, Issiac and Issiah Landis, James Cosner and James Burr, all of Buckhannon, William J. Landis and Zachary Gillum, both of French Creek and Josh Butcher; eleven granddaughters, Lori Beth Smith and Jessica Gillum, both of French Creek, Dezaray Butcher of Weston and Brooklyn, Stormy, Trinity, Kaytlynn, Cyndi, Hannah Landis and Zarra Burr, all of Buckhannon and Roxie Butcher; several great grandchildren and one brother, James Hayward Landis of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Forrest, John and Robert Landis and one sister, Dorothy Phillips. Mr. Landis was a truck driver, a member of the Teamsters Union and a Methodist by Faith. Friends will be received 12-2 PM, Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with a funeral service following at 2 PM with the Rev. Ralph Miller and the Rev. Mike Wamsley officiating. John Marvin Ireland
John Marvin Ireland, age 58, of 12609 McCorkle Ave. Charleston, WV, died Wednesday June 26, 2013 in Gilbert, WV. He was born May 9, 1955 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late John Ray and Betty Lou Mathews Ireland. On February 4, 2011 he married Cheryl A. Connard who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Jeffrey Ireland and wife Madalene of Charleston and Mark Ireland and wife Sloan of Buckhannon; one step-daughter, Jennifer Campbell of Belle WV; three grandsons, Brett Belt of Weston, Hunter Crites and Caleb Ireland both of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Hayley Ireland of Charleston; two brothers, David Ireland of Raleigh, NC and Arthur Jay Ireland of Ronda, NC and one sister Linda Kay George of Richmond, VA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Ray Ireland. Mr. Ireland was an Independent Contractor and was a member of Slaughter Creek Freewill Baptist in Cabin Creek, WV. Vera L. Marple, age 68, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, April 21, 2008 at Wishing Well Health Center in Fairmont, WV. She was born June 18, 1939 in Curtain, WV, a daughter of the late Odie and Monna Grace Chipps Hamrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Hamrick. She is survived by one son, David W. Marple and wife Joni of Buckhannon; two daughters, Cheryl D. Marple of Fairmont, WV and Sheila L. Minick of Umatilla, FL; five grandsons, Daniel Marple, Travis Wilfong, Joshua Wilfong, Dusty Marple and Dalton Marple all of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Landon Marple of Buckhannon and three sisters, Betty Smith of Fairmont, WV, Dixie Kennedy of Buckhannon and Anna Marie Sutch of Mentor, OH. Mrs. Marple was a bookkeeper, a member of the Christian Fellowship Church and an active member of the Women of the Moose. Arlena B. Marple
Arlena B. Marple, age 76, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at her home while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. She was born August 5, 1934 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Guy S. and Frantie Wilfong Warner. On April 4, 1953 she married Monzell D. Marple who survives. Also, surviving are one daughter, Jacqueline Jackie Bennett and husband Bruce of Hodgesville, WV; one son, Mark T. Marple and wife Connie of Hackers Creek, WV; two sisters, Ethel Miller of Hunker, PA and Marlene Ledbetter of Buckhannon; one grandson, Jeremy Bennett and wife Amanda of Lawrenceville, IL; one granddaughter, Samantha Leput and husband Neil of Keyser, WV and one great grandson, Lance Leput of Keyser. Arlena worked beside her husband for many years running a dairy farm and maintaining a home. She was a member of the Heaston United Methodist Church of Hodgesville.
