Joyce Lee Crawford, 55 of Pedro, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at his residence.
Born Nov. 21, 1945, at Gladwater, Texas, she was a daughter of the late James and Margarett Green Jervis.
Survivors: sons, Steve Scott, Circleville, Ohio, Charles and Everett Scott, both of Akron, Ohio; brothers, Tom, James and Gary Jervis, all of Gilbert; sisters, Myrtle Ann Jervis and Elizabeth Milford, both of Gilbert, Dorothy Groskope, Milwaukee, Wis., Alice Hall, Coal Grove, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez, Ky., with Minister Bruce Dunford officiating.
Visitation: 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Brida Grimmett
Brida Effie (Smith) Grimmett, 92, of Bruno, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, after a short illness.
Born Jan. 11, 1908, at Horsepen, she was a daughter of the late Larkin and Parthenia Hatfield Smith.
She was a member of the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Roy Grimmett; daughter, Nevada Walker; son, Rev. Roy L. (Peanut) Grimmett; ten brothers and sisters; four grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Surviving: daughters, Nancy L. Harvey and Bertha L. Mullins, both of Bruno; sons, Rev. Robert F. Grimmett, Bruno and Leslie Ed Grimmett, Man; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church in Man with Rev. Jackie Grimmett and Rev. Clarence Fortner officiating.
Visitation: 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Carl Looney
Carl Looney, 79, of Morristown, Tenn., died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Morristown Heritage.
Born Jan. 9, 1922, in Pike County, Ky., he was a son of the late Calvin and Lizzie Looney.
He was employed at Great Lakes Steel, an Air Force and Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 5266 and Moose Lodge 1486.
Survivors: wife, Lucille Looney; son, Carl Looney Jr., Lincoln Park, Mich.; stepchildren, Linda Cross and Robert Carson, both of Morristown; sisters, Nobie Mullins and Millie Wright, both of Kentucky, Betty Gazzaroni and Dean Mullins, both of Michigan; and two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, Johnson Memorial Park.

Chestlee Maynard Newsome, 88, of Laurel Creek, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Williamson Memorial Hospital.
Born April 12, 1912, in Paintsville, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Ira and Jettie Hensley Maynard.
She was also preceded in death by: husband, Charlie Newsome; brother, Woodrow Maynard; and sister, Elsie Maynard.
She was a homemaker and member of the Church of the Living God His Name Jesus Christ, Laurel Creek.
Survivors: sister, Pearl Maynard, Laurel Creek; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at Chafin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph McCoy officiating.

Stephanie Ann Wright, 33, of 502 Gum St., Williamson, died Friday, March 30, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington.
Born Dec. 11, 1967, at Williamson, she was a daughter of John W. and Vera Johnson Wright of McAndrews, Ky.
She was formerly employed by Timothy Koontz as a secretary, a graduate of Belfry High School, attended Southern West Virginia Community College and Kee College of Business in Virginia and a member of Christ Temple Church.
Survivors in addition to her parents: ex-husband, Robert Ford; sons, Robert, Deboris, Benjamin and Jonathan, all of McAndrews; and sister, Magnolia V. "Maggie" Boone, Norfolk, Va.
Funeral: noon Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Christ Temple Church, Williamson, with Elder Thomas Moore officiating.

Rebecca VanHoose
Rebecca Ellen Qualls VanHoose, 94, of Chattaroy, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 3, at Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 30, 1906, at Greenup County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Charles Harrison Qualls and Edna Tackett Qualls Thompson.
She was a member of the New Philadelphia United Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
VanHoose was also preceded in death by her husband, William VanHoose; sons, Thomas Irvin VanHoose and William VanHoose and her sister, Ora Ramey.
Survivors: children, daughter and son-in-law, with whom she made her home, Paul and Linda Henson, William Edward VanHoose, Hoffman Estates, Ill., Ruben Sherman VanHoose, Williamson, Emily Marcum, Somerset, Ky., Eva Cochran, Ravenswood, Ora Wellman, Williamson, Rosie Mae Taylor, Circleville, Ohio; brother, Leonard Qualls, Ashland, Ky.; sister, Laura Bennett, Paris, Ky.; grandchildren who were her daily companions, Lisa Yates, Michael Henson, and Kelly Dotson and special friends, Dr. Max Tan and Wilma Brewster and her caregiver, Gloria Shortridge and is also survived by a special daughter in law, Mary Henson, who also served as a care provider; 42 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Vernal Staten
Vernal Andrel Staten, 83. of Rt. 4, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Dixie Stacy Staten.
Born in Chattaroy, he was a son of the late Joseph Jefferson and Chloe Curry Staten. Mr. Staten was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy, and was a retired Mechanical Engineer with Babcock and Wilcox, NNFD.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby S. Brockhoff.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Lynd D. (Clara) Staten of Appomattox; one daughter, Sandra S. (Jerry) Smiley of Bridgewater; two sisters, Amber S. Tickle of Huntington and Agnes S. Hatfield of Buskirk, Ky.; four grandchildren, Jerrica Smiley (Tommy) Long, Scott V. (Beth) Smiley, all of Bridgewater, Stacy Staten (Neal) Devlin, Christina M. Staten of Appomattox; and one great-grandson, Brett Smiley.
Graveside services were held at the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mitch Luckie officiating.
