Gladys Hatfield, 94, of Rawl, W. Va., died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W. Va.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Weaver Mortuary, West Williamson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at the mortuary.
Weaver Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Freddie Lew Akers
Freddie Lew Akers, 65, of Concord, Calif., formerly of Surosa, WV, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the Bayberry Care Center in Concord.
He was born Oct. 5, 1936 at Surosa, WV, a son of Leonard Akers and Estelle Sue Harold Akers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Geraldine Sammons and Dora Akers.
Akers was a maintenance supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Akers; brothers, Jack Akers of Dayton, OH, Jerry Akers of Matewan, WV, Leonard Akers Jr., of Delbarton, WV, Claude Akers of Callahan, FL, and Andy Akers of Cincinnati, OH, and sisters, Blanch McClellan, Brenda Akers and JoAnn Rhinesmith, all of Lancaster, OH
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson with the Rev. Virgil Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. Family members and friends will be pallbearers.
Visitations will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday morning, Aug. 2, 2003, at the mortuary.

Tiffany Taylor
Tiffany Paige Taylor, 19, of Millwood, W. Va., in Jackson County, formerly of Williamson, departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at the Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, W. Va., following a short illness.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1983, in Pikeville, Ky., a daughter of Ralph and Barbara Moore Taylor of Millwood.
She was a 2003 graduate of Burch High School in Delbarton where she was a member of the homecoming court during her freshman year. She was a member of the Church of Christ by faith and had numerous friends.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Ralph Lee Taylor and his wife Jennifer Taylor of Williamson; one sister, Misty Porter of Lexington, Ky.; and grandparents Ralph R. and Betty Taylor of Ripley.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, T.P. and Estella Moore.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the Casto Funeral Home in Ravenswood, W. Va., with Ralph Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson County Memory Gardens in Cottageville, W. Va.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home.
Chester Davis
Chester Ray Davis, 78, of Whitehall, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during WWII. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Beckley Post 430 and the American Legion. He had retired from Greyound.
Formerly of Chattaroy, he was preceded in death by his parents, Soloman and Martha Davis; grandson, Jonathan Harris; siblings, Juanita Estepp, Harold Davis, Catharine Cline and Charlotte Hope Lovern.
He is survived by his children, Michael Davis and his wife, and Mary Sue Harris; grandchildren, Ann Elizabeth (Mark) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Alex, Mark and Rose Johnson and Raven Harris; brothers, James Homer Davis and Donald (Carole) Davis; sister, Faye Rupp. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio, where friends may call between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2. A private burial will be conducted at a later time.

Chester May Sr.
Chester Lawrence May Sr., 75, of Matewan, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.
Born June 14, 1928, in Harr, Tenn., to the late Chester Author May and Melinda Sue Johnson May, he was a retired electrician and a member of the First Assembly of God at North Matewan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Estle May; two brothers, Noah and Cecil May; two great grandchildren, Frankie Lee Gillman Jr. and Shawn Bradley Hannah.
Surviving are his wife, Henrietta Copley May of Matewan; sons, Chester Lawrence May Jr. (Peggy) of North Matewan, Noah Lee May of Bristol, Tenn., and Steve Collins Jr. (Rebecca) of Warner Robins, Ga.; daughters, Hattie "Linda" (Ance) Gillman of Lenore, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" (Curt) Bevins of Logan, W. Va., Teresa Faye Dunn (Bryant) of Bristol, Tenn., Sandra Ann Cummings (Larry) of Stanford, Ky., Gloria Jean Spann of Lutz, Fla., Marlene John) Orta of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Cheryl Fay Underwood (Roy) of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, Johnny May of Bristol, Tenn.; sister, Kathryn Lane of Bristol, Tenn.; 29 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, noon, at First Assembly of God at Matewan with Revs. Lowell Sparks, Jimmy Copley and Sam Saul officiating. Burial will follow at the Maynard Cemetery at North Matewan.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Rev. Hal Hevener, Rev. David Smith, Gerald Epling, John Norman, Jack Smith, Rev. Rusty Newsome, Ervin Smith and Jerry O'Brien.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the church with services at 7 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.
Mary Marcum-Allen
Mary Marcum-Allen, 77 years old, of Crum, W. Va., died Sept. 10, 2003 at 6 p.m. in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W. Va.
Born January 1, 1926 at Jenny's Creek, W. Va., she was the daughter of Lacy Marcum and Millie Perry Marcum. She was married Sept. 16, 1944, to Willis Allen.
Mary was a devoted Christian and member of the Crum Separate Baptist-in-Christ Church. She was saved the second Sunday of May 1945. Mary made many friends in her lifetime. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. She was loved by everyone.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 59 years are her sons, Bobby, Michael and Larry Allen; her daughter, Millie Allen-King; her grandchildren, Amy Allen-Napier, Kendra Allen, Chris Allen, Stephanie Martin, Kayla Allen, Jessica Allen-Lanham, David Allen and Shawn Booth, and her great-grandchildren, Courtney and Cameron Allen and Bobbi Renae Napier.
Other survivors include her brothers, Willie Marcum of Ohio, Boyd Marcum of Kermit, and Harry Lee "Buck" Marcum of Crum, and her sisters, Nancy and Pauline of Ohio.
Two sons proceeded her in death, Ervin and David Allen.
She will be at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home of Warfield, Ky., today, Sept. 12. Then she will be taken to the Crum Separate Baptist-in- Christ Church at Crum, W. Va., Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at 1:30 p.m.
The funeral will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. at the church. Ministers are Jack Small, Mack Sparks, Freddie Lovins and Josh Hall. There will be services each night.
Burial will take place in the Allen family cemetery at Crum under direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home.
Clarence Dallas Cline
Clarence Dallas Cline, 43 years old, of P.O. Box 88, Baisden, W. Va., 25608, died Sept. 10, 2003. at 2 p.m. at his home at Baisden. He was a general laborer by occupation.
Born Oct. 12, 1959. at Ieager, W. Va., he was a son of the late Herman G. and Julia M. Patrick Cline.
He also was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Florence Cline, and his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Georgia Patrick.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include: one daughter, Ashley Nicole Cline, of the home; one son, Daniel Grant Cline, of the home; one sister, Rue (French Morgan) Cline of Hanover, W. Va.; two brothers, Chassie (wife Pam) Cline of Baisden, W. Va., and Jeremy (Ashley) Toler of Smithers, W. Va.; one special niece, Katelyn Cline; and one special friend, David Ray Lester.
Friends may call at the Mounts Funeral Home at Gilbert from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Wolford and Dr. Joseph Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarence Cline family cemetery at Baisden.

Morton Gibson Sr., age 85, of Rawl, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, in the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, W. Va.

Tolbert Block
Tolbert Block, 78, of Crum, W. Va. died Sept. 20, 2003.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the Golden Spring Freewill Baptist Church, Stonecoal Rd., Crum, WV.
Visitation will start at 10 Sunday at the church and will continue all day Monday.

Kimberly Carico
Kimberly Va Harmon Carico, 45, of Lewisburg, N.C., formerly of Williamson, W. Va., was delivered to the arms of God on September 19, 2003.
Graveside services were conducted on September 21, 2003 at Mountain View Memory Gardens with Pastor Tommy Reed officiating.
Kimberly is survived by her parents, also of Lewisburg, NC and her father, Williams (Bill) Harmon of Williamson, WV.
Kim was loving and supportive of her son, Joshua Carico, his fiance, Jenna, of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Jessica (Mrs. Bucky Keaton) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandsons, Dylan, age 2, and Gavin, 10 weeks, also of Winston-Salem, N.C., and one brother, William (Billy) Harmon of Belfry, Ky. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, along with many close friends and co-workers.
Kimberly was a fifth grade elementary school teacher at Royal Elementary, Louisburg, N.C. She was also a member of the Belfry Baptist Church.

Rick Carico, 46, of Lewisburg, N.C. and formerly of Marion, Ohio passed away Friday, September 19, 2003 in Williamson, W. Va.
He was born December 31, 1956 in Coeburn, Va. to the late Worley and Carol Ruth (Turner) Carico.
He was a 1976 graduate of Ridgedale High School and worked as a purchasing agent with Franklin Regional Medical Center in Lewisburg, N.C. for over 20 years.
Surviving are a son, Joshua; a daughter, Jessica; two grandsons; a brother, Gary (Barbara) Carico of Columbus, three sisters, Brenda (Richard) Collins, Glenda Kindell and Chris (Ron) Houser, all of Marion; a half-brother, Andy (Ann) Ingle of Denton, NC; three half-sisters, Roxie (Randy) Hamilton of Castlewood, Va., Patsy (Rick) McConnell of Wise, Va., and Sharon Stansberry of Norton, Va.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 1 - 2 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home in Marion, Ohio.

Clarence Patterson
Memorial services for Mr. Clarence Patterson, 78, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Thursday, September 4, 2003, at 6 p.m. at Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church in Williamson, W. Va., with the Rev. Vint Arnold officiating. Mr. Patterson died Monday, September 1, 2003 in Alexander City.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Broadman of Reno, Nev. and Patricia A. Croston of Zanesville, Ohio; a sister, Clemma Cupp of Chesapeake, Va.; four brothers, Bob Patterson of Stockton, Ca., Russell Patterson of Pasedena, Md., Herbert Patterson of Akron, Ohio and Charlie Patterson of Pasedena, Md.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Patterson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired maintenance supervisor with the hotel industry.
