Roger Messer
Roger L. Messer, 44, of Huntersville, N.C., formerly of Beaver, Ohio, passed away April 28, 2004, in the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, N.C.
He was born July 9, 1959 in Logan, W. Va. He was the son of the late Ronald and Mandy Finley Messer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his mom, Flossie Irene Estep of Chattaroy, W. Va.; sons, Carl Wayne, Shawn and Roger Jr. of Ohio; daughters, Jennifer of Charlotte, N.C. and Nancy Brooke, Kayla and Destiny, all of Ohio; brother, Jerry Donald Messer of Jackson, Ohio; sisters, Letha Hensley of Columbus, Ohio and Barbara Mullins of Huntersville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Luther and Raymond; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Sunday, May 2, 2004, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Clifford Rawls officiating. Burial will follow in the Maynard cemetery at Dingess, W. Va.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 - 9 p.m.

Ramona Hooker
Ramona McCoy Hooker passed away Monday, May 10, 2004, after suffering a long illness. She was born August 18, 1938, in Matewan, W. Va.
She was a graduate of Matewan High School and Marshall University with a degree in education. She moved to Atlanta in 1962 and began a long career teaching at Lakeside High School in Dekalb County.
In 1971 she was named the State Star Teacher in Georgia. After retiring from teaching she began a successful career in real estate working for ReMax Executives.
She was an active member of First Christian Church of Atlanta. A very warm, generous loving wife, mother and friend, she was loved greatly and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Henrietta McCoy and Robert Ward McCoy, Sr. of Matewan, W. Va.
Survivors include husband Paul Hooker of Atlanta; son, Robert Hooker of Atlanta; daughter, Rebecca Hooker of Cumming; brother, Robert Ward McCoy, Jr. of Matewan, W. Va.; brother, David Mark McCoy of Matewan, W. Va.
A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Tucker, Ga., Saturday, May 15, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in her hometown of Matewan, W. Va. Details to be announced.
Carl Booten
Carl S. Booten, 81, of Valley View, Williamson, formerly of Aflex, Ky., died on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 25, 1923, in Pike County, Ky., a son of the late Luther and Effie Alderman Booten. He was a retired coal miner from U.S. Steel, a member of the UMWA and a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Delsie Booten; one sister, Juanita Slater; two brothers Cecil Booten and Dean Booten; and one son-in-law, David Stacy.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Stacy of Aflex; four grandchildren, Karen (Paul) Thacker of Williamson, Donny (Carlin) Justice of Turkey Creek, Ky., David (Melissa) Justice of Aflex, Ky., and Dustin (Marsha) Stacy of Chattaroy; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2004, at the Mountain View Memory Gardens in Huddy, Ky., with Glen Nolan officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hatfield Funeral Home in Toler, Ky.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Home.
Norma Taylor
Norma Taylor, 88, of New Market, Tenn., formerly of Delbarton, a loving mother and friend to all, passed away May 10, 2004 at the UT Medical Center.
She was born June 9, 1915 at Johns Creek, Ky., the daughter of the late Thomas and Laura France. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Taylor; son, Dock Taylor; daughter, Shirley Taylor; and two grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Mary Taylor.
She is survived by sons, Jim and Jerry Taylor, both of Delbarton, Bob and wife Liz Taylor, Bill and wife Louise Taylor, Joe and wife Pat Tay-lor, all of Dandridge, Tenn.; daughters, Judy and husband Jack Gillum, and Kathy and husband Millard (Red) Fielden, both of New Market.; 29 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Thursday., May 13, 2004, with Bro. David Fergusson officiating. Burial will follow in the Taylor cemetery at Varney.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening, from 6 - 9 p.m., with special services starting at 8 p.m. with Bro. Gary Starr Jr. officiating.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Doris Ray
Doris Marie Ray, 57, of Meador died on Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Facility in Phelps, Ky.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Ray; and three brothers, Wayne Fierce, Kenny Fierce and Johnny Fierce.
She is survived by two sons, Mikey Ray and Eugene Ray, both of Meador; one daughter, Mary Burnett of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Ronnie Fierce of Columbus; one sister, Phyllis Fierce; one granddaughter, Carol Marie Burnett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Ky., with the Rev. Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Meador.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Doris Ray

Mary Staton
Mary Katherine Gillman Staton, 62, formerly of Christiansburg, Va. passed away Monday, May 10, 2004 in Wilmington, Ohio.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, John and Teresa Staton of New Lebanon, Ohio, and Terry Staton of Salem, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jeff Satchwell of Wilmington, Ohio; seven grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Betty Gillman of Radford, Va.; and a sister-in-law, Patsy Gillman of Caldwell, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Donald Trout officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.

Michael Childers, 46, of Newtown, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at his home.

June White
Mrs. June Elaine White, 63, of Tazewell County, Virginia died peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on May 2.
She was born November 29, 1940, in Bluefield, Virginia and born again April 16, 1977. She was the daughter of the late William Everett and Janie Prince Pertee. A Graduate from Virginia Tech with a Masters in Education, June taught school in Buchanan County from 1978 to 2002. Her favorite years teaching were those at Whitewood High School.
June was a published poet, writer, and genealogist; but, above all else her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ was cherished most. June lived her life for the glory of God. Her steadfast love and faithfulness to the Lord inspired many. Being a woman of the upmost excellence, she fought a good fight and finished her course while keeping her faith as she pressed toward the mark of the high calling of God.
Living family members include: Sisters: Nancy Lowe and Bucky McConnell; Son Philip Lester and wife Geralann Lester; Daughter: Jane Lester; Grandson: Zachary Lester; Spiritual Son: Greg Stanley. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Zachary Lester, Greg Stanley, Babu, Chris Jenks, Dr. Pillai and Dr. E Khuri.
Visitation at Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton, W. Va., will begin at 6 p.m. May 3, 2004, with funeral services at 8 p.m. Reverend Ricky Cole will be officiating. Private family gravesite burial will be the following day at Maple Hill cemetery in Bluefield, Virginia.

William Cantrell Sr.
William Earl Cantrell Sr., 75, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Huntington, W. Va.
Born August 31, 1928, in Dingess, W. Va., to the late William Goble Cantrell and Corda Marie Evans Cantrell, he was the owner of Cantrell Sheet Metal. Mr. Cantrell was a member of Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist Church. He was a disabled Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Opal Mae Damron Cantrell; brother, Jack Cantrell; sisters, Pearl Macy Cantrell and Helen Cantrell.
Surviving are his son, William Earl Cantrell, Jr., Gate City, Va.; daughter, June Gail Browning and her husband Albert, of Delbarton, W. Va.; five grandchildren, Jenny Lynn Cantrell, Marissa Cantrell, Albert Dean Browning II, Belinda Parsons and Beverly Jo Ballou; two great grandchildren, Zachary and Jordan Browning.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2004, 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Wayne Runyon officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery, West Williamson. His family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Emma Eastes
Emma T. Eastes, of West Union, W. Va., departed this life May 3, 2004, in Salem, W. Va.
She was born August 31, 1916, in Wayne County, W. Va., a daughter of the late Oscar M. and Hester Marie Akers Adkins.
She is survived by two daughters, Emma Jo Dotson and husband, Arthur of West Union, W. Va. and Marilynn Johnson and husband D. Lee of MAdison, W. Va.; one son, Tom Eastes and his wife Anita of Barboursville, W. Va.; one brother, Oscar M. Adkins of Humboldt, Tenn.; grandchildren, Beth and Shell Hoskinson, Tom and Sandi Dotson, Ron and Stephanie Eastes, Rachel and Richard Johnson, Dawn Eastes, T.J. and Melissa Eastes, Isaac Miller, Aaron Miller, Joshua Miller, Debra and Jason Hladik, Delaina and Mike Foust, Dixzie Johnson, Diann Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Daina Johnson, Dillon Johnson, Denham Johnson, Deanna Johnson, Derik Johnson, Dustin Johnson, David Johnson, Jr.; and great grandchildren, EmmaLee, Elizabeth and Simon Hoskinson, Amethyust, Malachi and Zachariah Hoskinson, Ryan Miller, Taylor and Hannah Eastes, Jacob Johnson, Sydney Eastes and Emma Ruth Foust.
She was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband, Rev. Thomas J. Eastes, whom she married
May 14, 1939; and one brother, John M. Adkins.
Mrs. Eastes had been in Christian education as a youth director and was co-director of Mountain Ministries for the West Virginia Baptist Convention. She had a masters degree in Christian education.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Oceana, W. Va. Graveside service will bein the Woodmere cemetery in Huntington, W. Va. at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2004. Parker Lester
Parker Lester, 59, of Baisden, W. Va., (Gilbert Creek), passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born August 22, 1944, in Baisden, Ky., to the late Lee Lester and Pearl Murphy Lester, he was a coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Lester and Eckol Lester; and two sisters, Thelma Cline and Elma Lester.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Lester; one daughter, Linnea Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; two brothers, Lee Lester Jr. of Baisden, W. Va., and Dexter Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; one sister, Alma Lester of Baisden, W. Va. He is also survived by his dog, Buffy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2004, 1 p.m., at Full Gospel Church of God, Baisden, W. Va., with Rev. Jonas Trent and Rev. Larmen Mounts officiating. Burial will follow at the Lester Family cemetery, Gilbert Creek.
Serving as pallbearers are Marvin Joe Bradford, James Lester, Nathan Hatfield, Brandon Sammons, Steve Dotson, Jamie Lester and Michael Sims.
Honorary pallbearers are Keith Lester, Conrad Lester, Nathaniel Jab Trent, John Thompson and Michael Mangus.
