Bernie R. Cooper, 87, of Vienna, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Wood County, the son of the late Delbert John and Jessie Myrtle Calhoun Cooper. He was superintendent of Vaughts Chapel United Methodist Church, Leachtown. He was formerly employed by B&O Railroad, and retired after 41 years with American Viscose Corp., and after 18 years with Vaughan Funeral Home. Surviving are two sons, Franklin L. Cooper, Sr., of Mineral Wells and Clarence E. Cooper of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Sharon R. Terrell of Sommerville, N.C.; one step-daughter, Doris K. Dean of Vienna; one sister, Irene Johnson of Grantsville; two brothers, Harold Cooper of Newark, Ohio, and Ritchie Cooper of Elizabeth; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and special friends and caregivers, Jan and Gene Chadock. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy E. Barnett Cooper, in 1968; his second wife, Anna Mildred Vanscoy Cooper, in 1997; and one brother, Rolla P. Cooper. Services were held at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Thomas Deane and Rev. Nancy Hamm officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Clarence Cottrell, 84, of Crummies Creek, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late William R. and Tilda Marks Cottrell. Surviving are his wife, Wavaline Hardway Cottrell; two sons, Thomas Hardway and Jerry L. Cottrell, both of Sand Ridge; three daughters, Julie Lamp of Big Springs, Marilyn McKenney of Summersville and Cathy Lamp of Grantsville; three step-sons, David Sagle and Ronnie P. Sagle, both of Waverly, and Billy Hardway of California; four brothers, Ernest Cottrell of Little Hocking, Ohio, Cecil Cottrell of Reedy, and Guy Cottrell and Shirley Cottrell, both of Indiana; and three sisters, Aella Roupe of Chloe, Goldie Rush of Minnora and Effie Mae Wallbrown of Sand Ridge. He was preceded in death by one son, Stanley Cottrell. Graveside services were held at Cottrell Family cemetery, Crummies Creek, near the family residence, with Rev. Allen Smith officiating.

Greta A. Cottrell, 70, of Elizabeth, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Orma, the daughter of the late Harry and Jessie Hunt Eisman. She was a member of Pine Twist Baptist Church and was the last member of the Eisman family. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, John W. Cottrell, Sr.; two sons, Brad Cottrell of Petroleum and Hal Cottrell of Offutt, Neb.; one daughter, Alice Kent of Sandyville; one half-brother, Dale King of Grantsville; eight grandchildren; five great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, John Cottrell, Jr.; one granddaughter, Teressa Cottrell; and three brothers, Ivan, Bob and Williard Eisman. Services were held at Matheny-Pomroy Funeral Home, with Rev. Gladson Grim officiating. Burial was in K of P cemetery, Elizabeth.

Opal G. Cottrell, 71, of Chloe, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Dallas and Amy Brannon Hicks. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Surviving are her husband, Paris A. Cottrell; one daughter, Norma Schartiger of Arnoldsburg; two sons, Roger Cottrell of Belva and Clinton Cottrell of Chloe; five sisters; two brothers; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister. Graveside services were held at Eventide cemetery, Spencer, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating.

Rex Cottrell, 69, of Marion, Ind., died Saturday, Apr. 17, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late William and Tilda Marks Cottrell. He lived in Marion for several years before retiring from GenCorp with 25 years of service in 1990 and returning to West Virginia. He went back to Marion in August, 1998. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and attended Orma Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Kathelene "Kay" Mace Cottrell; two sons, Steven Cottrell and Tom Cottrell, both of Marion; two daughters, Deborah Cottrell of Marion and Bunny Moore of Sweetser, Ind.; five brothers, Clarence Cottrell of Sand Ridge, Earnest Cottrell of Little Hocking, Ohio, Cecil Cottrell of Reedy and Guy Cottrell and Shirley Cottrell, both of North Grove, Ind.; three sisters, Zella Rush-Rupp and Goldie Rush, both of Minnora, and Mae Wallbrown of Sand Ridge; 19 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Rick Cottrell. Services were held in North Chapel, Marion, with Rev. Kenneth Sandefur officiating. Burial was in Grant Memorial Park, Marion.

Tony Cottrell, 50, of Scenic Hills, Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of Lawrence and Cleo Cottrell Lawson of Elizabeth. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed by Westfield Insurance Co. He was a member of River City Runners Club and taught aerobics at YMCA, Parkersburg. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Lou Ann Milliman Cottrell; one son, Todd Cottrell of Mineral Wells; one daughter, Shannon Cottrell of Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Cody and Amber Cottrell of Mineral Wells; and two brothers, Russell Cottrell and Rondal Lawson, both of Elizabeth. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Valery Johnson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Nickie Cottrell-Casteel, 61, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, in Rae-Ann Westlake Nursing Home, Westlake, Ohio. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Thurman and Nellie Finchman Cottrell. She was a homemaker. Surviving are one daughter, Loretta Graham of Cleveland; one son, Bobby Lee Nichols of Mt. Alto; four sisters, Rosalee Goodrich of Orma, Helen Moss of Cleveland, Frances Anderson of Spencer and Mary Lou Clemons of Normantown; five brothers, Claudie Cottrell of Elyria, Ohio, Arlie Cottrell of Harmony, Spencer Cottrell of Spencer, Lenard Cottrell of Looneyville and Holly Lee Cottrell of Clover; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Blanchard D. Cottrill, 72, of Chloe, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at his home. He was born in Webster County, the son of the late Aristotal and Martha Lambert Cottrill. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 21 years of service and was a veteran of Vietnam. He was also retired from Kern County Water System, Bakersfield, Calif. Surviving are his wife, Eula G.
