LAMB, JAMES E.

James E. 'Buck' Lamb, 83, of Coxs Mills, died Wednesday, June 19, 1996, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late Augus and Effie Grady Lamb. He was a retired head sawyer and timberman. Surviving are his wife, Edna Pearl Woofter Lamb; one son, William Lamb of Elyria, Ohio; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Una Myrle Lamb. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Pastor Richard Vanhorn officiating. Burial was in Troy IOOF cemetery.

LAMB, NELLIE

Nellie Lamb, 109, of Clarksburg, died Thursday, May 30, 1996, in a nursing home following an extended illness. She was born in Clarksburg on July 18, 1886, a daughter of the late Ezra Wolfe and Alcesta Kennedy Wolfe. She and her husband supervised Harrison County Infirmary for 25 years and Harrison County Children's Hospital for two years. She was a member of Clarksburg Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, Howard M. Lamb of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Emogene Reymond of Clarksburg; one foster daughter, Carmel Hart; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; a niece, Losie Lamb Dye of Chloe; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Lamb, in 1959; two sons, Ralph and Roy Lamb; one great-grandchild; and11 brothers and sisters..

LAMBIOTTE, LOCAL

Local Lambiotte, 81, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 1995, at her sister's home in Warren, Ohio. She was born in Salem, a daughter of the late Claude and Bertie Nichalson Davis. She was a former clerk for A&P, and was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Lions Club Auxiliary, and Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church, all of Grantsville. Surviving are three sisters, Marion Claudine Naylor and Tina Scott, both of Warren, and Norma Greynolds of Clarksburg; and one brother, Charles Davis of Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lambiotte; one daughter, Linda McKown; and one grandchild. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery.

LAMPROS, STEVE, SR.

Steve John Lampros, Sr., 66, of Grantsville, died Saturday, May 11, 1996, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, following a long illness. He was born in Newport News, Va., a son of the late John and Ida Ramey Lampros. He was a veteran of World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Science, a research scientist and a former assistant medical examiner. He received international acclaim for his development of vapor fixation of human tissue now widely used by the surgeon general for cancer research. He also developed technacon, which is an automatic method of preserving tissue for pathological study. Surviving are his wife, Jacquelin Baldwin Lampros; three sons, Steve J. Lampros, Jr., of Grantsville, Ricky Lee Lampros of Atlanta, Ga., and Sgt. Peter E. Lampros of the U.S. Air Force, South Carolina; one daughter, Susan Marie Rowell of Ocala, Fla.; and two sisters, Norma Wohel and Ethel Purvis, both of Harlington, Tex. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Father Don Trannel officiating.

LANDIS, BETTY ROSE

Betty Rose Landis, 69, of Sardis, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1996, at Wetzel County Hospital, New Matamoras. She was born in Arnoldsburg, a daughter of the late Waldo and Bertha Hoskins. She was a Billy Graham counselor and member of the Child Evangelism Board. She founded and was past president of New Matamoras Historical Society. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and taught Vacation Bible School for several churches in the Akron area. She was a former member of The Chapel, Akron. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, James C. Landis; three sons, David Landis of Galion, Ohio, and Jim Landis and Phillip Landis, both of Le Mars, Iowa; four daughters, Dianne Dykes of Port Charlotte, Fla., Barbara Lynch of New Matamoras, Sharon Bagozzi of Sherrodsville, Ohio, and Joanne Landis of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Frederick Landis. Services were held at Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Robert C. Messner officiating. Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.

LAUGHLIN, SHEILA M.

Sheila M. Laughlin, 41, of Arnoldsburg, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 1996, at Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Division. She was born in Cleveland, a daughter of Carl Starcher of Coolville and Lois Cleveland of Cortland, Ohio. She was a licensed practical nurse at Calhoun General Hospital for 13 years and attended Beech United Methodist Church near Arnoldsburg. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Charles Laughlin; one son, Chas Laughlin of the home; one daughter, Sheri Laughlin of the home; one brother, Mike Starcher of Macfarlan; one sister, Sandy Marous of Munson, Ohio; paternal grandmother, Velta Starcher of Parkersburg; and maternal grandmother, Esther Sapp of Conneaut, Ohio. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Loren Price officiating. Burial was in Laughlin Family cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

LITTLE, CLARENCE

Clarence Little, 89, of Mt. Zion, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 1996, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Lewis and Nellie Elliott Little. He was a retired employee of W.Va. Dept. of Highways. He was a woodsman, a well tender, and a carpenter. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Ellenora O'Dell Little; two daughters, Betty Curry of Mt. Zion and Sharon Vannoy of Mineral Wells; five sons, Guy Little of Mt. Zion, Gail Little and Ronnie Little, both of Davisville, Denver Little of Mineral Wells and Donald Little of Sand Ridge; one sister, Gertrude Propst of Mt. Zion; two brothers, Willard Little of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Virgil Little of Morgantown; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by two sons, Dale Little and Hale Little; one sister; and four brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Paul Morrison and Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in St. Paul cemetery, Mt. Zion.

LITTLE, EMILY JANE

Emily Jane Little, 66, of Grantsville, died Monday, Mar. 4, 1996, at Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Division. She was born in Cottageville, a daughter of the late J.J. "Jed" Rhodes. She was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers and quilting. Surviving are her husband, Everett Leonard Little; one daughter, Hattie Starcher of Orma; one stepdaughter, Mayjean Lowe of Reedy; eight sons, Gerald Little of Marietta, Fred Little, Commodore Little, Joe Little, Robert "Buddy" Little and Davey Little, all of Grantsville, and Harley "Whitey" Little and Harlan "Blackie" Little, both of Spencer; one stepson, James Little of Lexington, Ken.; four brothers, Jim Little, Sam Little and David Rhodes, all of Cottageville, and Doc Rhodes of Parkersburg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven children and four sisters. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Carl Marks officiating. Burial was in Hur cemetery.

EVANS, OPAL

Opal Evans, 86, of Worthington Manor Care Center, Parkers-burg, formerly of Spencer, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 1995, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, after a brief illness. She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Florence Holland Curry. She was a homemaker and attended Union Gospel Tabernacle Church, Spencer. Surviving are two daughters, Dotty DePue of Spencer and Delores Brannon of Pineville; one stepson, Paul Evans of Arnoldsburg; two sisters, Eloise June Curry and Merlie Price, both of Spencer; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jakie Evans, in 1968; one son, Junior Allen Evans; two sisters, Garnet Curry and Mamie McBride; and one brother, Richard Curry. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Don E. Cunningham officiating. Burial was in Eventide cemetery, Spencer.

FLEMMING, ANNA L.

Anna Louise Schmid Flemming, 87, of Ravenswood Care Center, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 1995, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. She was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., a daughter of the late Karl and Catherine Frey Schmid. She was a homemaker, and formerly worked as a library assistant at Vassar College. She was active in the American Red Cross and was both a Cub Scout leader and Girl Scout leader. She served as a coordinator of the March of Dimes in New York and in Grantsville, having moved there in 1954. She was a member of Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church, and was an avid bird watcher. Surviving are one son, Dr. Albert B. C. Flemming of Ravenswood; three daughters, Yvonne Lawrence of Newborough, N.Y., Julia F. Monk of Ripley and Susan Ann Flemming of Walworth, Wis.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph C. Flemming; and one daughter, Barbara Howe Pierce. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Straight, Tucker & Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Rev. Kenneth Miller officiating, and burial Friday in Woodlawn cemetery, New Windsor, N.Y.

FLOYD, JOE L.

Joe L. Floyd, 61, of Weston, died Monday, Sept. 11, 1995, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, after an extended illness. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late Jesse and Pauline Yerkey Floyd. He was a graduate of Gilmer County High School and received a bachelor's degree from Glenville State College where he was a member of the basketball team. He received his master's degree in counseling and guidance from Ohio State University. He was a graduate of Bill McGowan Umpire School and was a professional baseball umpire. He was a former educator at Calhoun County High School and Moundsville High School, and a visiting teacher for Cincinnati Public Schools. He was employed as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Huntington, and most recently at Colin Anderson Center, Pleasants County. He was a lifelong member of Church of Christ. Surviving are one son, Mark L. Floyd of Parkersburg; one daughter, Rebecca D. Ferguson of Belpre; two brothers, Jack Floyd of Parkersburg and Jon Floyd of Fairmont; one cousin, Larry Morton of Grantsville who was raised in the home; one sister, Patty Johnson of Vincent, Ohio; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Wright. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Evangelist Eugene L. Conger officiating. Burial was in Otterbien cemetery, Gilmer County. FOWLER, EDWARD G.

Edward G. Fowler, 79, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 1995, at his residence after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born in Russett, a son of the late Frank and Elfie Barr Fowler. He retired from West Virginia Dept. of Highways with 40 years of service, having worked as a surveyor and project engineer, and was formerly employed by Bob Yoak Ford for seven years. He was a member of Grantsville Eureka Lodge 40, AF&AM, Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies, Parkersburg Nemesis Shrine Temple, and Enon Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Margaret Connolly Fowler; four daughters, Janet Connolly of Jacksonville, Fla., Regina Ice of Orlando, Fla., Vicki Conway of Houston and Debbie Ball of Grantsville; three sons, Edward Fowler, Jr., of Houston, Danny Fowler of Rock Hill, S.C., and Anthony Fowler of Grantsville; five sisters, Velma McEndree, Geraldine Wallace, Madalene Moore and Emogene Hoskins, all of Grantsville, and Oleva Gainer of Pittsburgh; and four brothers, Glen Fowler of Grantsville, Dale Fowler of Parkersburg, Victor Fowler of Huntington and Foster Fowler of Elyria, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Deward "Duke" Fowler, in 1993. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with burial in Mt. Zion cemetery, with Masonic rites.

FRAME, DORMA ETHEL

Dorma Ethel Frame, 70, of Parkersburg, died Monday, May 8, 1995, at Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Division, Charleston, after an extended illness. She was born in Munday, Wirt County, a daughter of the late Silas A. and Kanzada Sees Pepper. Surviving are three sons, Eric Newell and Silas Mark Frame, both of Annamoriah, and Dyer Frame of Munday; three daughters, Patty Bennett of Parkersburg, Neva Weaver of Grantsville and Susan Hartshorn of Munday; one brother, Willard Pepper of Orange, Texas; two sisters, Valetta Slaby of Barberton, Ohio, and Ema Belt of Ravenswood; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Services were held at Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, Munday, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Wolverton cemetery, Munday.

FREDERICK, BENJAMIN

Benjamin F. "Frank" Frederick, 88, of Big Springs, died Saturday, May 6, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg. He was born in Freed, a son of the late George Washington and Mary Jane Criss Frederick. He retired from Oakmar Oil & Gas, Marietta, with 28 years of service. He was a member of Hoy Chapel United Methodist Church, Big Springs. Surviving are his wife, Virgie Mae Richards Frederick; four sons, Dallas Frederick of Nobe, Denzil Frederick of Buckhannon, George H. Frederick of Big Springs and Roger Frederick of Weston; three daughters, Edna Jarvis of Grantsville, Evajean Sams of Big Springs and Lillian Frederick of the home; one sister, Frances Miller of Ripley; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in Masonic cemetery, Ellenboro.
