JAMES C. CATHERMAN
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - James C. Catherman, 61, of Raintree Acres, Bridgeport, passed from this earth to join our Heavenly Father on Friday morning, Feb. 12, 1999, following an extended illness.
He was born June 18, 1937, in Frostburg, Md., a son of Catherine Logsdon Catherman Patton, Satsuma, Fla., and the late Clair M. Catherman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Paula Sue Chidester Catherman.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Peggy Sue) Jorgensen, Half Moon Bay, Calif., Mrs. Dennis (Deborah Ann) Hall; and one grandson, James Marshall Goff, both of Jarvisville.

Mr. Catherman was a member of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from the Dover Electric Company. He was a member of Late Lodge #63 A.F & A.M., Clarksburg Lodge of Perfection, Knights of Rose Croix, Valley of Wheeling, Scottish Rite Bodies. Mr. Catherman was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an active member of Bass Masters. He was a graduate of Beall High School, Frostburg, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Friends may call at the Allen Funeral Home, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. C. Michael Hopkins officiating. After the service the body will be cremated

The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to "Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs, "c/o Kids W.Va. Bass Federation, P.O. Box 806, Clarksburg, WV 26302.

ALMA L. ADAMS
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Alma Lee Adams, 68, of Fort Ashby, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born March 20, 1930, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Hetrick and Mary E. (Pittman) Hiner.

Mrs. Adams was a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital and Memorial Hospital, where she had worked for 37 years. She was a 1948 graduate of Fort Hill High School, and a 1951 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Ashby. She was a member of several nursing organizations, having served as secretary of the local group in the 1950s.

Surviving are her husband, George K. Adams; one son, Walter L. Adams and Pamela Getz, , Fort Ashby; and one sister, A. Mary Wagoner.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating.

Interment will be in the Mount Herman cemetery, Cumberland.

Pallbearers will be Tom Cruses, Denise Readd, Alan Malone, Richard Wagoner, Don Hyde and Robert Leatherman.

HAZEL M. CRITES
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Hazel M. Crites, age 82, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Friday, May 28, 1999, at her residence.
Born May 20, 1917, in Rough Run, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arlie E. Simmons and Cora (Sites) Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Crites Sr., on March 27, 1986.

Mrs. Crites was a retired registered nurse. She was employed for 30 years at the Springfield State Hospital, Sykesville, Md. She was a member of the Petersburg Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving are one son, James M. Crites Jr. of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two daughters, Donna Reel of Grafton, W.Va., and Betty Cooper of South Boston, Va.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Beulah Hinkle of New Market, Va.; one brother, Galen H. Simmons of Rough Run, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at Petersburg Grace Lutheran Church, Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fred A. Soltow Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in the South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, W.Va.

Memorials may be made to the Petersburg Grace Lutheran Church.

The Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, is in charge of arrangements.

CECIL CLARK
OLD FIELDS, W.Va. - Cecil Clark, retired Captain, U.S. Navy, age 81, of Markwood Road, Old Fields, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Born Aug. 4, 1917, in Murphy, Texas, he was a son of the late John N. and Robbie (Mathews) Clark. He was preceded in death by one sister.

He was a member of the Moorefield Lions Club, a former member of the Upper Potomac Development Corporation, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma (Lacy) Clark; two sons, Paul T. Clark, Germantown, Md., Allan C. Clark, Charlottesville, Va.; one sister, Agnes Carter, Lone Oak, Texas; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield, with the Rev. Nancy J.B. Clark officiating.

Burial will follow at the Walnut Grove Gardens near Moorefield, where military graveside rites will be accorded by a U.S. Navy Honor Detail.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield.

Memorials may be directed to the Moorefield Lions Club.

DOROTHY L. COX
WILEY FORD, W.Va. - Dorothy Louise (Puhalla) Cox, 71, of Wiley Ford, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 16, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maude Puhalla.

Mrs. Cox had been a clerk at Goldsmit-Black.

She was a member of the Highland Baptist Church and the Morning Breakers Homemakers, Wiley Ford.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil C. Cox; two sons, Joseph R. Cox and wife, Carol, LaVale, and David W. Cox and wife, Kathy, Cumberland; her father*in*law and mother*in*law, Raymond and Susie Cox, Wiley Ford.

The funeral service will be held in the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. J.W. Lancaster officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Ladies Auxiliary of the Allegany County Nursing Home, Furnace Street Extension, Cumberland, MD 21502, or to the charity of one's choice.

VIRGIE MAE BARNES
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. - Virgie Mae Barnes, 81, of Springfield, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Aug. 1, 1917, in Maysville, she was the daughter of the late Roy Dayton and Malena Jane (Phares) Keplinger.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Barnes; one son; one daughter; two sons*in*law; two brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Barnes had been a crafts leader for the Mineral County 4-H Club.

Survivors include six children, Bertha McCormick, Winchester, Va., Ada Lou Queen, Fort Ashby, Anna M. Goldizen, Maysville, Harley L. Barnes, Daniel W. Barnes, and Tamela "Susie" Peer, all of Fort Ashby; one brother; three sisters; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Marshall Carder officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 111 S. George St., Cumberland, MD 21502, or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1114, Cumberland, MD 21502.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Goldizen, William Goldizen, Mike McCormick, John Self, Calvin Nazelrod and David Barnes. Honorary pallbearer will be Josh Peer.
