THOMAS J. CONLON
KEYSER, W.Va. - Thomas J. Conlon, 70, of 500 Carskadon Lane, Keyser, formerly of Piedmont, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at his residence after a long illness.
Born on July 23, 1928, at Elk Garden, he was a son of the late Thomas L. and Eva L. (Harris) Conlon. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Vada L. Shuck and Clydetta Canfield Walker.
Mr. Conlon was the retired owner and operator of the former Colonial Flower Shop in Piedmont, now known as the Flower Bay. He continued to work there with Barbara Wilson until his health prevented him from doing so. He also was a retired journalist, serving as editor and news editor for the Mineral Daily News-Tribune and was a correspondent for the Cumberland Evening Times. A 1946 graduate of Keyser High School and a 1948 graduate of Potomac State College and later from West Virginia University, Mr. Conlon was a past president of the Potomac State College Alumni Association and was the recipient of the 1988 Potomac State College Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. In the 1970s he was named Keyser's Citizen of the Year for his civic contributions.
Mr. Conlon was also a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport, Md., where he served several years as choir director, a post he also held at the Church of the Assumption in Keyser.
Surviving are three nephews, David Canfield, Carlisle, Pa., Jack Canfield, Charleston, and Richard Shuck, Antioch; and one niece, Patricia Leatherman, Romney.
Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
A Service of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, with Father James Hannon officiating.
The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

CHARLES W. BECK, SR.
KEYSER, W.Va. - Charles William Beck, Sr., 77, of 45 Old Orchard Drive, Keyser, died on Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at his residence.
Born on Dec. 15, 1921, in Keyser, he was the son of the late Carl Louis Beck and Anna Katherine (Robey) Beck.
Mr. Beck was retired from ABL where he was a Development Technician. He was a World War II U.S. Army Airforce veteran. He was a member of the Assumption Church, a member of Queens Point VFW Post 6775, McCoole, and a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport.
Surviving are his wife, Mary M. (Higgins) Beck; his son, Charles W. Beck, Jr., and wife, Barbara, Keyser; his daughters, Katie Kesner and husband, Bob, Keyser, and Melinda Riggleman and husband, Walter, New Creek; his 10 grandchildren, Shannon Beck, Andy Beck, Brent Kesner, Bridget Kesner, Joshua Coffman, Jacob Coffman, Chaissy Coffman, Jordan Coffman, J.R. Riggleman, and Rikki Riggleman; and his eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at 11 a.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R., officiating.
REVEREND EDWARD LOUIS BISHOP
HIGH VIEW, W.Va. - The Rev. Edward Louis Bishop, 63, of Route 1, Box 405, High View, died on Monday, May 24, 1999.
Rev. Bishop was born on March 16, 1936, in Hannibal, N.Y., a son of the late George and Martha Grey Bishop.
He was a pastor of the Ebenezer Christian Church Disciples in Gore, Va. He graduated from Cornell University in Ithica, N.Y. He retired after 22 years as a Lieutenant Colonal in the U.S. Army, having served two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Capon Valley Ruritan Club, where he served as past president and secretary, and he currently served as treasurer. He was voted 1998 District Ruritan Member of the Year. He was secretary of the John Brill Scholarship Fund. He was president of the Hampshire County Democratic Club where he served as a board member of the Executive Committee. Rev. Bishop was also secretary of the regional board for the Christian Church Disciples in Lynchburg, Va.
He was married
to Phyllis Kump on Nov. 2, 1985, in High View. Surviving with his wife are two sons, George E. Bishop, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., David A. Bishop, Elmira, N.Y.; four daughters, Sherryl A. Van Norstrand, Cato, N.Y., Karen Shampine, Chapel Hill, N.C., Kimberely Bishop, Reston, Va., Michele Eiker, Richmond, Va.; one step-daughter, Deborah Ellington, Lexington, S.C.; four brothers, Albert Bishop, Zephyrhills, Fla., John H. Bishop, Greenville, S.C., Franklin C. Bishop, Manlius, N.Y., Robert H. Bishop, Michigan; one sister, Lucy M. Landis, Mount Dora, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 30, 1999, at 3 p.m. at the Timber Ridge Christian Church in High View. Officiating will be the Rev. Gregory R. Kenney, the Rev. Walt Lunblad, and the Rev. Warren Brubaker. Inurnment will be private.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 29, 1999, at the Ebenezer Christian Church in Gore, Va., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

BLANCHE MAY BLACKBURN
AUGUSTA, W.Va. - Blanche May Blackburn, 91, of HC 71, Box 120, Augusta, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at the residence of her daughter, Betty Smith, in Augusta.
She was born Nov. 8, 1907, in Romney, the daughter of the late William Bowman and Etta Mae Davis. She was also preceded in death by two sons, William W. 'Jack' Blackburn and Harold Blackburn; and one great-grandchild.
She was retired from the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind. She was a member of Romney United Methodist Church, Ebenezer Homemakers Club, and West Virginia Association of Retired Service Personnel.
She was married
to John Blackburn, who died in 1957.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Smith, Augusta; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon and John Ward, Minister, officiating.

HELEN S. CORBIN
AUGUSTA, W.Va. - Helen S. Corbin, 72, of Augusta, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
She was born on July 24, 1926, in Moorefield, a daughter of the late Robert and Flossie (Duncan) McDonald. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anna F. Hines; and a sister, Gladys Nesselrodt.
Mrs. Corbin was a resident of Augusta for 30 years, having moved from Baltimore, Md. She was the former co-owner of the East End Tavern in Augusta.
She is survived by her companion, George H. Saville, Augusta; a son, Robert J. Corbin, Baltimore; three grandchildren, Brenda L. Racey, Winchester, James L. Brooks Jr., Morgantown, Robert A. Corbin, Baltimore; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine Maggio, Baltimore.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, May 4, at 1 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Stiltner officiating.
MARY L. CROSTON
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Mary Leona Croston, 91, of Romney, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at the Hampshire Health Care Center, Romney.
Born June 28, 1908, in Green Spring, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Linnie Florence (Biser) Allen. She also was preceded in death by her husband, C. Delvin Croston on April 30, 1997; four brothers, Leroy L. Allen, Edgar E. Allen, Irvin G. Allen, and W. Willard Allen.
Mrs. Croston was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Points, and former member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Romney.
Surviving are two sons, Richard L. Jackson, Newark, Del., and James B. Jackson, North Haven, Conn.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Tuesday, Dec. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Delbert Poling officiating.
