M. MURIEL HAINES
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - M. Muriel Haines, 87, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Sept. 19, 1910, in Romney, she was the daughter of the late Franklin B. and Laberta Frances (McDonald) Messick. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, John F. Fields; her second husband, Howard E. "Pete" Haines; one son; and two daughters.

Mrs. Haines was a member of the Forest Glen United Methodist Church, Green Spring, and attended the Springfield United Methodist Church, Springfield.

Surviving are two sons, David E. Haines, Keyser, and Phillip P. Haines, Fort Ashby; two daughters, Bernice Fields Miller, Reston, Va., and Evelyn E. Haines Keck, Tallahassee, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating.

Interment will be in the Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

E. JEAN LEATHERMAN
KEYSER, W.Va. - E. Jean Leatherman, 70, of Route 4, Box 25, Keyser, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born on March 23, 1928, at Beryl, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Nora (Bias) Knott. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis and Orville Knott; and a special niece, Betty Raines.

Mrs. Leatherman was retired as a transportation aide with the Clary Street Developmental Workshop with 12 years' service. She was a 1946 graduate of Piedmont High School and was an active member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband, William E. Leatherman; one daughter, Joyce Fike and husband, William, Charles Town; one sister, Lorraine Riley, Keyser; two grandchildren, Bradley Fike and fiancee, Anastasia Betterton, Colorado Springs, Colo., Holli (Fike) Dolly and husband, Brian, Flintstone, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Brian; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Keyser Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Fritz officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Keyser Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 729, Keyser, WV 26726.

FLOSSIE HALLER
ARBOVALE, W.Va. - Flossie Haller, 92, of Arbovale, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at home with her five children at her side.
Born March 13, 1906, in Mount Liberty, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Mattie (Daugherty) Wagner.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roy "Jack" Haller, on Sept. 10, 1989; four brothers, Delbert Wagner, Leonard Wagner, Russell Wagner and Fred Wagner; and two sisters, Dora Jones and Madge Everson.

Mrs. Haller was a member of the Church of Christ and the Arbovale Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Haller, Jackson, Ohio, and Robert Haller, Akron, Ohio; three daughters, Marie Fetters, Ellerslie, Md., Shirley Schartiger, Ridgeley, and Lynda Lease, Cumberland, Md.; one brother, Scott Wagner, Belington; two sisters, Mildred Bartlett, Philippi, and Vesta Weese, Belington; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The body will then be taken to the Wright Funeral Home, Philippi, where friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the Wright Funeral Home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Minister Larry Arnold officiating.

Interment will be in the Stringtown cemetery, Belington.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Butch Haller, Berk Haller, Tim Haller, Mark Haller, Paul Haller, Mike Haller, Richard Fetters and Allen Fetters.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe McFalls and Billy Lockard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital Hospice, 600 Memorial Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502.

AMBY HARPER HALTERMAN
NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. - Amby Harper Halterman, 97, of New Martinsville, formerly of Moorefield, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 2, 1998, at the Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood.
Mr. Halterman was born Jan. 28, 1901, in Rig, the son of the late Jehu and Eursula (Simmons) Halterman. Also preceding him in death were five sisters and two brothers and one grandchild.

Surviving are his wife, Ada Park Halterman, New Martinsville; two daughters, Gwendolyn Lee Stickler, New Martinsville; and Geraldine H. Breinig, Moses Lake, Wash.; four sons, Granville Park Halterman, Oakland, Md.; Phillip Jehu Halterman, El Centro, Calif.; Lorenza Bean Halterman, Rowlesburg; and Fredrick Roscoe Halterman, Charlotte, N.C.; four sisters, Elsie Chipley, Chloe Hawse, and Wade Bean, of Moorefield; and Jose Bensenhaver, Rig; three brothers, Roscoe Halterman, Huachucha City, Ariz; Emmett Halterman, Maysville; and Ferguson Halterman, Moorefield; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Halterman was a clerk, service and sales person for various businesses in Moorefield, a member, church vester, senior warden and trustee of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, a member of the Moorefield Volunter Fire Company and Moorefield Town Council.

Friends may call anytime after 5 p.m. Saturday at the Elmore Chambers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends there from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Elmore Chambers Funeral Home with Father Don Raih officiating. Burial will follow at the Asbury Church cemetery in Beans Settlement.

Memorial donations may be made to the Moorefield Episcopal Church or Newhouse cemetery, Rig, WV.

JOHN M. HAMILTON
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - Judge John M. Hamilton, 76, of 206 N. Elm St., Moorefield, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at his residence.
Born Dec. 12, 1921, in Grantsville, Md., he was the son of the late George and Losie (Knotts) Hamilton. He also was preceded in death by one son; and two brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Porter) Hamilton; one son, John Mark Hamilton, Petersburg; one daughter, Susan Hamilton Rogers, Cabins; one brother, George Hamilton, Charleston; four sisters, Eileen Whitman, Big Chimney, Naida Ellison, Norwood, Pa., Johanne Carpenter, Circleville, Ohio, and Jeanette Bearden, Waynesboro, Va.; one grandson, John Daniel Rogers, Jacksonville, Fla.; and one great-grandson, Austin Matthew Rogers, Jacksonville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church, Moorefield, with the Rev. Ted Osgood officiating.

Burial will follow in the Olivet cemetery, Moorefield, with military graveside rites accorded by the Moorefield Veterans Honor Guard, and Masonic graveside rites accorded by Moorefield Lodge 29 AF & AM.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield, and the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A military memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Judge Hamilton was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Service during World War II in the Philippine Islands and other parts of the Pacific Theater, and received the rate of Aviation Machinist Mate Flight-Engineer 1st Class, and was a qualified aerial gunner and combat air crewman. He was a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church; member of Moorefield Lodge 29 AF & AM; member of the Denny-Moyers-Pratt Post 9606 VFW; member of the West Virginia Judicial Association; member of the West Virginia Bar Association; member of the Hardy County Bar Association, and held Senior Judge Status in the State of West Virginia, and was a past president of the Moorefield Lions Club.

Judge Hamilton received his law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1950, and holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree. Before being elected as judge in 1976, he practiced law for several years as partner of the late Ralph J. Bean of Moorefield.

Before his election as judge, Hamilton served two terms as Prosecuting Attorney of Hardy County, and was active in the Democratic Party, having served as president of the Hardy County Young Democratic Club and in 1964, he became chairman of the Hardy County Democratic Executives Committee.

Memorials may be made to the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company or the Fraley Ambulance Service.

MARY E. LECHLITER
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Mary Elizabeth Lechliter, 83, of the Old Furnace Road, Ridgeley, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at her residence.
Born Nov. 2, 1915, in Levels, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Delbert Powell Sr. and Mary Edna (Moreland) Powell.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Emor Lechliter, in 1993; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one brother; and two sisters.

Survivors include three sons, John Lechliter, Fort Ashby, Thomas Lechliter, Ridgeley, and Calvin Lechliter, Carpendale; two daughters, Esther Bucy, Wellersburg, Pa., and Shirley Pyles, Fort Ashby; two brothers, John Powell, Ridgeley, and Floyd "Joe" Powell Jr., Corriganville, Md.; three sisters, Pauline Baldwin, Ridgeley, Helen Brown, Silver Springs, Fla., and Iona Baldwin, Ridgeley; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Darrell Tichinel officiating.

Interment will be in the Ginavan cemetery, Paw Paw.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeff Lechliter, Brian Lechliter, Troy McKenzie, Calvin D. Lechliter Jr., Jason Pyles, Adam Pyles and Dwight Lechliter.
