HILDRED O. REED
NEW CREEK, W.Va. - Hildred O. Reed, 71, of HC 75, Box 127, New Creek, formerly of Points, W.Va., died June 21, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Sept. 26, 1926, in Points, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Cavert Merritt and Elta Hott Merritt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Reed, on March 6, 1987; one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Reed was a housewife.

Surviving are three daughters, Cornelia Reed Vance and Mrs. Karen Reed Davis, both of Maysville, W.Va.; Mrs. Dona Bennett, Seneca Rocks, W.Va.; three sons, Haven Reed, New Creek; Dana Reed, Cabins, W.Va.; Gale Merritt, New Creek; two sisters, Doris Eye and Gyneth Raines, both of Romney, W.Va.; two brothers, Cavert Shull Merritt, Cabins; Clark Merritt, Leesville, La.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, W.Va., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Landis officiating. Interment will be at Maysville cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Maysville Volunteer Fire Company.

EDITH L. REEL
KITZMILLER - Edith Lillian Reel, 91, of Kitzmiller, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, in Lynchburg, Va.
Born Sept. 13, 1906, in Wabash, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha (Simons) Davis. She also was preceded in death by her husband Guy L. Reel.

Mrs. Reel was a member of the Kitzmiller Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are one son, Harold Harvey, Bullshead City, Ariz.; two daughters, Betty Wolf, Kitzmiller, and Janet Elmore, Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Donald Davis, Baltimore; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The body is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, where friends will be received on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Kitzmiller Assembly of God Church with the Rev. James Mou officiating.

Interment will be in the Kalbaugh cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.

JAMES M.K. REID JR.
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - James M.K. Reid Jr., age 82, of Petersburg, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at Grant Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 5, 1915, in Romney, he was the son of the late James M.K. Reid Sr. and Alice (Keller) Reid.

Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee (Hull) Reid on Jan. 19, 1989. He was also preceded in death by one brother, George A. Reid.

Mr. Reid was a graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown. He was assistant administrator of Grant Memorial Hospital until his retirement in December 1982. He was an elder of Petersburg Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of Petersburg Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M. He was a 50-year member of Petersburg Lodge I.O.O.F. No. 408. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, James M.K. Reid III and Patricia, Dumfries, Va.; one grandson and wife, James M.K. Reid IV and Kimberly, Bristow, Va.; one sister, Agnes Strawderman, Petersburg; one brother, John Keller Reid, Petersburg; one niece, Mary Ann Reid, Charlottesville, Va.; two nephews, Thomas Reid Strawderman, Charleston, and George A. Reid Jr., Sarasota, Fla.

Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Petersburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donald G. Scofield Jr. and the Rev. Robert Field officiating.

Burial will be private in Lahmansville cemetery, Lahmansville.

Memorials may be made to Petersburg Presbyterian Church, the Grant Memorial Hospital, or to Lahmansville cemetery.

CHARLES B. ``CHUB" RICEWICK
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Charles Blake ``Chub" Ricewick, 71, of Carpendale, formerly of Springfield, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998 at his residence.
Born Dec. 31, 1926, in Green Spring, he was the son of the late Charles Clarence and Beulah Virginia (Shaw) Ricewick.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton and Franklin Ricewick; and two sisters, Betty ``Rosie" Dean and Shelby Jean Chunka.

Mr. Ricewick was a retired heavy machine operator for Region 8.

He was a member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department, and was the forest fire warden for the Department of Natural Resources.

Mr. Ricewick cherished his two children and four grandchildren. Those surviving are his son, Allen Blake Ricewick and wife, Alice, Odenton; his daughter, Trina Sue Ratcliff and husband, Jeffrey, Petersburg; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ricewick, Sean Ricewick, Marissa Ratcliff, and Ashlyn Ricewick; two brothers, James D. Ricewick, Cumberland, and Robert D. Ricewick, Ocala, Fla.; one sister, Helen V. Landis, Fort Ashby; and his former wife, Barbara ``Susie" Ricewick, Romney.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating.

Interment will be in Forest Glen cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be nephews Danny Ricewick, Jamie Ricewick, Dale Brakeall, Kenny Kline, Rodney Rose and Doug Miller.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert Everett, Bob Parsons, Leldon Lee, Richard Grace and Ike Grimm.

BEATRICE C. SOMERS
WILEY FORD, W.Va. - Beatrice C. Somers, 84, of Wiley Ford, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1914, in Sleepy Creek, she was the daughter of the late Howard F. and Viola (Kesecker) Fox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph B. Somers; and one son, George K. Somers.

Mrs. Somers was a homemaker. Surviving are three daughters, Yvonne Ogg and husband, Joseph, Damascus, Md., Jean Kramer and husband, Kenneth, Baltimore, Md., Kay Morin and husband, Paul, Oldtown, Md.; one son, Ralph B. Somers and wife, Marian, Frederick; one daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Somers, Altoona, Pa.; two sisters, Leona Carbaugh, Hedgesville, Neva Richwine, Carlisle, Pa.; two brothers, Ray Fox, Cherry Run, Hennis Fox, Berkeley Springs; nine grandchildren, Brian Somers, Jeffrey Somers, Kristi Waite, Stephen Ogg, James Kramer, Robert Kramer, Dana Crowe, Kevin Somers, Adam Somers; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Miracle Center, Hedgesville, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery, Hedgesville.

GARLAND W. "LEFTY" SPANGLER
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Garland Wayne "Lefty" Spangler, 65, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Ridgeley, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at the Hospice Unit of Veterans Hospital, Tucson.
Mr. Spangler was the son of the late Nellie B. and Gerald Spangler.

Upon his request, the body was cremated. Interment will be at Eckhart cemetery.

NELSON R. "FUZZ" SPENCER
PAW PAW, W.Va. - Nelson R. "Fuzz" Spencer, age 64, of Paw Paw, died Monday evening, May 4, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va., following a short illness.
He was born Dec. 5, 1933, at Paw Paw, a son of the late Clifton and Ada (Washington) Spencer.

He was a lifelong resident of Paw Paw and was a U.S. Army veteran. He also was a retired employee of Cooper Industries of Winchester with 28 years' service, and was a member of UAW #149 of Winchester.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby (Gales) Spencer; sons, Nelson R. Spencer Jr., Paw Paw, Robert E. Spencer, Harpers Ferry; daughters, Sandra Johnson, Martinsburg, Patricia Spencer, Winchester; a sister-in-law, whom he raised, Cynthia Y. Summers, Winchester; a brother, Clifton S. "Bean" Spencer Jr., Cleveland, Ohio; sister, Mildred "Millie" Harris, Pittsburgh, Pa.; grandsons, Jeremy, Jordan, Stephen II and Robbie Jr.; granddaughters, Keneshia and Lyndiah.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 1998, at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Hill cemetery in Paw Paw.

Friends may call Thursday, May 7, 1998, at the Fraley-Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fraley-Kimble Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
