VESTA L. SHARP
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Vesta Louise Sharp, 87, of Berkeley Springs, formerly of Paw Paw, died Thursday, June 18, 1998 at Valley View, Berkeley Springs, following a short illness.
Born July 14, 1910, in Paw Paw, she was a daughter of the late Albert J. and Mary Frances (Cloud) Leach. Her husband, Don Sharp, preceded her in death in October 1994. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Ziler; two brothers, Howard Leach and Langford Leach; and one sister, Catherine Burkhart.
Mrs. Sharp was a member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, WSCS, and Ambrosian Class and was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 128, Paw Paw.
Surviving are daughters, Elma Kesler, Winchester, Va., Jean Clark and husband David, Paw Paw; stepdaughter Donna Snyder, Cumberland, Md.; stepson James Sharp, Paw Paw; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Fraley-Kimble Funeral Home, Paw Paw, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, Sunday, June 21, 1998, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Nancy Ward officiating. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.
Pallbearers will be Steve Kesler, Lang Moss, Jeff Riggleman, David Clark, Jim Sharp and Charles Leach.
The Fraley-Kimble Funeral Home, Paw Paw, is in charge of arrangements.
A. MILDRED SHARPLESS
BLAINE, W.Va. - Amy Mildred Sharpless, 88, of Blaine, died Monday, March 9, 1998, in the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.
Born Sept. 11, 1909, in Blaine, she was a daughter of the late Otha and Anna (Beckman) Sharpless.
Mildred was a registered nurse and midwife who delivered more than 600 babies. She worked with her father in the Sharpless Funeral Home family business, and following his death operated the business for 17 years until her retirement in 1972.
She was a member of the Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, Kitzmiller, Md.; the Order of the Eastern Star, Westernport, Md.; Calanthe Temple 8, Pythian Sisters, Piedmont; and the Royal Neighbors of America, Camp 5218, Keyser.
She was a graduate of Kitzmiller High School, Class of 1927, and a 1930 graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Cumberland, Md. She did post graduate work at Western Reserve University and Maternity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Surviving are a number of cousins and nieces.
Friends will be received at the David A Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Landaker officiating.
RONALD C. SHATZER
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Ronald C. Shatzer, 60, of Ridgeley, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 17, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edgar F. and Lola Pearl (Haines) Shatzer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Louise Shatzer, Aug. 17, 1997.
Mr. Shatzer was retired from the Potomac Edison Company, Cumberland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are one daughter, Deborah Blankenship and husband, Joseph, Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; two sons, Brian Shatzer, at home; Frank Nicol and wife, Mary Rose, Ashton; one brother, Royce Shatzer and wife, Norma, Cumberland; five sisters, Phyllis Mullenax and husband, Bob, Satsuma, Fla.; Charlene Lanier and husband, Dean, Westerville, Ohio, Linda Pompilius and husband, Denny, Mount Pleasant, Mich., Carol Shatzer, Cumberland, Sharon Golden and husband, Eddie, Carpendale, W.Va.; and five grandchildren, Jordan, April and Taylor Blankenship, Bruceton Mills, and Blake and Danielle Nicol, Ashton.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
DELPHIA I. SHAW
KEYSER, W.Va. - Delphia Irene Shaw, 79, of Route 2, Keyser, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home, Cumberland, Md.
Born on May 11, 1919, at Keyser, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Sally Ann (Lease) Hayes. Twice married
, she was preceded in death by both husbands, Wood Gardener and George William Shaw. She also was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Shaw was a homemaker and was Baptist by faith.
Surviving are one brother, Grayson Hayes, Fort Ashby; one sister, Edna Urice, South Daytona Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, David Moyer and Heidi Moyer; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. William Blair officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
CURTIS Q. SHEFFLER
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Curtis Quinton Sheffler, 72, of Short Gap, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at his home.
Born in Patterson Creek, he was the son of the late Quinn R. and Lillian (Long) Sheffler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jackson Sheffler; and one sister, Ruth Witsell.
Mr. Sheffler was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Methodist by faith.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Maxine Lorraine (Brant) Sheffler; three daughters, Victoria Lee Hall, Clarksburg, W.Va., Sheila Rea Emerick, Short Gap, and Alexis Yvonne Shirey and husband, Douglas, Short Gap; one son, William Jackson Sheffler, Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Matthew S. Hill, Melanie S. Hill, Jennifer L. Shirey, Cody D. Shirey, Brea N. Emerick, Timothy Sheffler, Kurtis R. Sheffler; and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Emily Hill.

Burial will be conducted at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

JOSEPH E. SHEPHERD
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Joseph E. Shepherd, 81, of Carpendale, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, Md.
Born Jan. 30, 1917, in Ridgeley, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Ethel M. (Shaffer) Shepherd. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Maffley and Elsie Jones; and one brother, Louis "Frank" Shepherd.
Mr. Shepherd retired from the Chessie System Railroad in 1984 after 30 years of service. He also was a former employee of the Celanese Corp. He was an active member of the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren. Mr. Shepherd was an avid hunter and gardener, and enjoyed spending time in the mountains of St. George, W.Va.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Catherine I. (Helmick) Shepherd, Ridgeley; one daughter, Betty J. (Shepherd) Lambert and husband Dwight M., Ridgeley; one son, Joseph R. Shepherd and wife Donna, Parsons; two granddaughters, Cathy D. (Lambert) Flanagan and Lisa M. Lambert, both of Ridgeley; one grandson, Joseph R. Shepherd Jr. and wife Debbie, Parsons; two great-granddaughters, Amber Lynn Flanagan and Andrea Lee Flanagan, Ridgeley; one sister, Agnes C. Miller and husband Vernon, Cumberland; and two brothers, Robert K. Shepherd and wife Grace, Ridgeley, and Charles W. Shepherd, Cumberland, Md.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Dietz officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Joseph R. Shepherd Sr., Joseph R. Shepherd Jr., Edward F. Shepherd, Raymond Shepherd, William Shepherd, Robert F. Shepherd and Clarence Hawse.
