WANDA M. FLINN FRIDDLE
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Wanda M. (Flinn) Friddle, 72, of Petersburg, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Grant Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 15, 1925, in Belleville, Wood County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Olin Flinn, Sr., and Anna Marie (Toomey) Flinn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. "Pete" Friddle, Jr., on June 3, 1994; three brothers, William Flinn, James Olin Flinn, Jr., and Bobby Gene Flinn; one sister, Beulah Schriver.

Wanda was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and member of the Order of Eastern Star, Moorefield Chapter 102.

Surviving are two sons, Charles H. Friddle III and wife, Penny, Elkins, W.Va., and S. Todd Friddle, Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. James (Phyllis) Cole, Petersburg; six grandchildren, Holly and Jennifer Cole, Charles H. "Chip" Friddle IV, Katherine, Molly and Austin Friddle; one sister, Ruth Arbogast, Petersburg; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Main Street United Methodist Church, Petersburg, on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Meredith Ball and the Rev. Don Scofield officiating.

Private interment will be in Olivet cemetery, Moorefield, W.Va.

Family will receive friends following the memorial service at Main Street United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grant Memorial Hospital Building Fund; Mountaineer Athletic Club, Strength and Conditioning Department, P.O. Box 0877, Morgantown, WV 26507; Boy Scouts Troop 88, sponsored by First United Methodist Church, Kerens Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

LETA S. DAUGHERTY
AUGUSTA, W.Va. - Leta Susan Daugherty, 89, a resident of Hampshire Memorial Hospital Long-Term Care Center, Romney, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997.
Born in Augusta on Sept. 2, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Walker Haines and Miriah Virginia (Hiett) Haines. She also was preceded in death by her husband Riley A. Daugherty on Jan. 28, 1997; three brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Daugherty had been a cook at the Augusta Elementary School for 20 years. She was a member of the Tearcoat Church of the Brethren, Augusta.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Una Daugherty; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Dolan officiating.

Interment will be at the Tearcoat cemetery, Augusta.

Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Kesner, Chester McKee, Robbie Patterson, Jay Kesner, Troy McKee and Junior Timbrook.

JOHN D. BREHANY
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - John Darnley Brehany, 89, of Ridgeley, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at his residence.
Born July 3, 1908, in Pekin, Md., he was the son of the late James P. Brehany and Jeannette (Darnley) Brehany. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Brehany; one son, William L. "Bill" Brehany; and one sister, Anona Brehany.

Mr. Brehany served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a graduate of Catherman's Business School. Mr. Brehany had worked as an accountant, and had been employed by Grant Lumber Supply from 1929 to 1937, Cessna Lumber from 1937 to 1951, South Cumberland Planing Mill from 1951 to 1964, and the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company from 1964 until his retirement in 1973.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ridgeley, Fort Cumberland Post No. 13 American Legion, Aerie No. 245 FOE, and Council No. 586 Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are one sister, Kathleen Sullivan, Vero Beach, Fla., three grandchildren, Scott Brehany, Pensacola, Fla., Kelly Meharg and John Franklin, both of Montgomery, Ala.; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Kent Durig as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medical Eye Bank of Maryland, 815 Park Ave., Baltimore, MD 21201-9990.

JOSEPH R. EVANS
AUGUSTA, W.Va. - Joseph Riley Evans, 86, of Augusta, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997 at the residence of his granddaughter, Sharon Hott.
He was born in Romney, W.Va. on Oct. 30, 1910, the son of the late William Oscar Evans and Anna Corbin Evans.

Mr. Evans was a farmer. He was an Honorary Member of American Legion Post 91 and the VFW Post 1101, both of Romney.

His former wife, Clara Ruckman Evans, survives, and two daughters, Vesta Bowman, Augusta, and Sylvia Kibler, Front Royal, Va.; one son, Garland Evans, Stephens City, Va.; two sisters, Susan Zirk, Short Gap, W.Va., and Francis Valentine, Ridgeley, W.Va.; one brother, George Evans, Youngsville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997 at 11 a.m. with Daniel Stiltner, Minister, officiating.

Pallbearers will be Richard Hott, William Taylor, Rodney Evans, Ronald Boyer, Kenneth Evans, and Jody Southerly.

Interment will be in St. Luke's cemetery, Romney.

BAKER D. BRELSFORD
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Baker Davis Brelsford, 79, of Short Gap, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at the Hospice Unit at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 20, 1917, in Levels, he was the son of the late John B. and Hattie (Saville) Brelsford.

Mr. Brelsford was a retired laborer with Local 616, having worked with the Walter N. Yoder and Sons Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap; a 50 year charter member of Short Gap Fire Department; a 30 year charter member of the Short Gap Lions Club. He was a member of Short Gap Senior Citizens, and Woodmen of the World Lodge 6, Cumberland.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Frances (Haines) Brelsford; one son, Rodney Brelsford and wife Diane, Short Gap; two daughters, Donna J. Pyles and husband Glen, and Vicki Dawson and husband Jim, all of Short Gap; one brother, John Brelsford Jr. and wife Louise, Short Gap; one sister, Nellie Carder and husband Alvin, Short Gap; six grandchildren, Tami Dennis and husband Michael, Todd Pyles and wife Doniele, Mark Dawson, Chad Dawson, Troy Brelsford and Holly Brelsford; and four great-grandchildren, Justin Dennis, Cameron Dennis, Brennan Pyles and Ellison Pyles.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap, on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Sumner Sawyer and the Rev. John Glessner officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Ashby cemetery.

The Short Gap Fire Department will hold a memorial service on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Woodmen of the World memorial service at 7:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Short Gap Fire Department.

Serving as pallbearers are Douglas Brelsford, Terry Brelsford, Marshall Carder, Robert Everett, David Haines and Tom Pyles. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Short Gap Fire Department and the Short Gap Lions Club.

ROY N. EVERETT
JUNCTION, W.Va. - Roy Nathan Everett, 86, of Junction, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Center, Martinsburg.
Born Sept. 15, 1910, in Sector, he was a son of the late George Washington Everett and Mary (Smith) Everett. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Delphia (Davey) Everett, on April 23, 1995; three brothers, Gilbert F. Everett, Gip Everett, and Jesse Everett; three sisters, Virginia Evans, Oranna B. Davey, and Orlena Haines.

Mr. Everett was self-employed as a farmer. He was a member of the Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Purgitsville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are one son, Roger R. Everett Sr., Purgitsville; one daughter, Phyllis Lewis Everett, Romney; and one grandson, Roger R. Everett Jr., Purgitsville.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be at the funeral home on Friday, May 2, 1997, at 1 p.m. with Glen R. Hamric, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Liller cemetery, Davey Road, Purgitsville.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Veterans Organizations of Hampshire County.
