SPRING-MARIAH FERTIG
KEYSER, W.Va. - Spring-Mariah Grace Fertig, 16, of Route 1, Box 224-A, Keyser, died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 135 in Westernport.
Born on April 27, 1981, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Gregory L. and Spring (Giles) Fertig of Keyser.

Miss Fertig was a Junior at Keyser High School. She was a member of the Keyser High School Band, serving as percussion captain, and was a member of the cross- country and basketball teams, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, and Junior Classical League.

Miss Fertig was a member of the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church, Keyser. She was a Girl Scout for ten years and served as a counselor at Camp White Rock for three years.

Surviving in addition to her parents are one brother G.B. Fertig, at home; paternal grandfather, Wendell Fertig, Keyser; maternal grandparents, Robert and Roberta Giles, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Grace and Glen Brooks, New Martinsville, W.Va.; three uncles; one aunt; and several cousins.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.

The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.

CARL F. BENNETT
KEYSER, W.Va. - Carl Frank Bennett, 61, of 580 W. Piedmont St., Keyser, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born May 23, 1936, in Seneca Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late Carl H. and Sabina E. (Kelly) Bennett.

Mr. Bennett was a retired supervisor for Roadway Express, Akron, Ohio. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having attained the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Keyser, and a member of the Kelly Mansfield Post No. 52 American Legion, Piedmont.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine B. (Shillingburg) Bennett; three sons, Richard Bennett, Brunswick, Ohio, Stephen Bennett, Tallmadge, Ohio, and Carl Bennett II, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; one stepson, William Corbin Jr., Mogadore, Ohio; one sister, Joan Manginell, Chili, N.Y.; two brothers, Gordon Bennett, Gaston, Tenn., and William Hawkins, Auburn, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Brother Luke Stone, T.O.R., officiating.

Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Westernport.

Full military honors will be accorded at graveside by various veterans organizations.

The rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

HARLEY W. GOLDEN
BRISTOL, W.Va. - Harley W. Golden, 92, formerly of Raccoon Run Road, Bristol, died Friday, June 6, 1997, at Clarksburg Continuous Care Center following a long illness.
Mr. Golden was born March 19, 1905, at Freeman's Creek, Lewis County, a son of the late John E. and Grace (Rymer) Golden. On July 9, 1994, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ruby (Richards) Golden. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Roscoe and Hayward Golden.

Surviving is one son, R. Wayne Golden, Bristol; one daughter, Shelia Golden, Keyser; three grandchildren, Mrs. Michael (Debra) Duffelmyer, Williamstown, Mrs. Timothy (Linda) Criss, Clarksburg, and John E. Golden, Charleston; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsey Criss, Lance Duffelmyer, and Conner Golden; and one sister, Wavelene M. Harbert, Salem.

Mr. Golden was retired from the maintenance department of Salem-Teikyo University. He was the second oldest living member of the Enon Baptist Church.

Friends will be received at the Harbert Funeral Home, 289 W. Main St., Salem, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lillian Simmons and the Rev. H. Gene Burnside officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery at Salem.

Memorial donations may be made to the Enon Baptist Church, Route 2, Box 231, Bristol, WV 26330.

EVERETT F. GIBBS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Everett F. Gibbs, 84, of 116 S. Mineral St., Keyser, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born on April 14, 1913, at Roanoke, Va., he was a son of the late William Edward and Elizabeth Cabel (Anderson) Gibbs.

Mr. Gibbs was a retired veteran's assistance officer with the Veterans Administration. He was a 1931 graduate of Allegany High School, and a 1935 graduate of Potomac State College. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Keyser; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 14; and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae (Naughton) Gibbs; and one sister, Ruth "Jackie" Altobello, Keyser.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, TOR, as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Thomas cemetery, Keyser.

A rosary/prayer service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

MARY P. BENNETT
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Mary Pearl Bennett, 85, of Fort Ashby, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at the Dawn View Manor Nursing Home. She and her sister, Ruth I. Miller, left together, hand in hand, to join Jesus in heaven.
Born Feb. 23, 1912, in Buck Valley, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ira and Katherine (Wertz) Smith. In addition to her parents and sister, Mrs. Bennett also was preceded in death by her husband, Conda E. Bennett, and her daughter, Shirley Ann Bennett.

Mrs. Bennett was a cook in local restaurants. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Fort Ashby VFW Post 6667 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president. She also served as past president of the Fourth District.

Surviving are her son, Donald Bennett and wife Nancy, Carlisle, Pa.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fort Ashby VFW will conduct a joint memorial service for Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Bennett at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

A joint funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Riley, Ron Hershberger, Eddie Willison, Doug Wolford, Ron Evans, and Steven Wotring.

JOHN T. BEVANS
PAW PAW, W.Va. - John Thomas Bevans, 67, of Paw Paw, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Sept. 3, 1930, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Constantine and Ruth (Wentling) Bevans.

Mr. Bevans was Catholic by faith.

Surviving are two sisters, Constance B. Laign, Virginia Beach, Va., and Jane B. Slusher and husband William, Bowie, Md.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 11 a.m. to noon.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at noon with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cumberland.
