BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Veronica Elizabeth Thompson, 88, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Baltimore, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Eden Enterprises, Berkeley Springs.
Born June 11, 1911, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Mary Katherine Goraney Gallagher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendall Thompson.
She was a graduate of Baltimore City public schools.
She was a homemaker. She had worked as a meat packer with Esskay Foods in Baltimore.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs, and Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, Baltimore.
She was a member of Senior Citizens Club in Baltimore.
She is survived by a son, Michael John Gallagher of Baltimore; two granddaughters, Laurie Levinski of Baltimore and Christine M. Gallagher of Glen Burnie, Md.; nieces and nephews.

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - William Nelson "Billy" Adams, 42, of Great Cacapon, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 30, 1957, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of William Leroy Adams of Great Cacapon, and the late Ellen Pearl Divelbliss Adams.
He was a 1976 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He worked as a machine operator in the cleaning department of Rayloc in Hancock.
He was a protestant.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Joy Denise Farris Adams; two sisters, Deborah Kay Adams of Great Cacapon, and Anna G. Stotler of Berkeley Springs; one niece; two nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Steven R. Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Great Cacapon cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 10 a.m.
Charles S. Washington
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Charles Sylvester "Bess" Washington, 80, of Franklin St., died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born Dec. 12, 1919, in Bolivar, W.Va., he was the son of the late Mary Bertha Washington.
He was retired from Badger Powhatan Company, Ranson, W.Va.
He was a member of Baltimore Temple King Apostle Holiness Church of God, Ranson.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Blondell S. Washington; six daughters, Joan Castro of Charles Town, W.Va., Sylvia Davis of Martinsburg, W.Va., Beatrice Jones of Forestville, Md., Selma Fleming and Kimberly Hosby, both of Ranson, and Sheila Willis of Manassas, Va.; two brothers, Donald Diggs and Otis Diggs, both of Las Vegas; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, David Washington, Eugene Washington and Linwood Washington.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Baltimore Temple King Apostle Holiness Church of God, W. 3rd St., Ranson. The Elder Sterling Porter will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Garden, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Ellen Louise Myers, 90, of Charles Town, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Shenandoah Health Village Center.
Born Oct. 25, 1909, in Grayson County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ellis G. and Mattie J. Kelly Hill.
She was a graduate from School of Nursing, Lexington, Va.
She retired from Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va., as a registered nurse, after 52 years of service and prior to that at Charles Town General Hospital.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town.
She is survived by two sons, Howard William Byers of Charles Town, and David G. Myers of Front Royal, Va.; a sister, Pauline Henry of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, John A. Hill of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Funk, Helen Starr and Donna Alger; and a brother, Fred Hill.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James A. Long Sr., 90, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at City Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1909, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William M. and Margaret Hasson Long.
His wife, Mary Pearl Turner Long, preceded him in death.
He retired from B&O Railroad.
He was a member of House of the Lord.
He is survived by five daughters, Marsha Lynn Long Krebs of Oklahoma, Becky Fowler of Martinsburg, Tina Marie Long of Baltimore, Mary Catherine Stargle of Jamestown, Ky., and Faye Bittorie of Blairton, W.Va.; two sons, Ronald Douglas Long Sr. of Martinsburg and James A. Long Jr. of Faubush, Ky.; two sisters, Louise Dick of Martinsburg and Norma Williams of Key West, Fla.; two brothers, James O. Long of Inwood, W.Va., and Frederick Long of Hagerstown; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Victor Long and Clifton Long; three sisters, Ann Norrington, Mary C. Myers and Vivian Long; and two brothers, William Long II, and Garland Long.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Robert F. Caplinger Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
