MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edith Alberta Shirley Jones, 79, formerly of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Parrish, Fla.
Born July 11, 1920, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Russell and Anna Mazie Canby Shirley.
She worked at Interwoven Mills, Peoples Drug Store and Perfection Garment Co. and retired from Corning Glass Works in 1978.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church,
She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 738, V.F.W. Chapter 896, Retirees Club of Corning and American Flint Glass.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Ann Hoover of Winchester, Va., and Louise Cline of Parrish; two sons, Charles Elwood Jones of Middleway, W.Va., and Gary Dennis Jones of Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thurman Lee Shirley and Harry Lester Shirley.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Robert S. Hill Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sonny C. Gray
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Sonny Claye Gray, 21, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000.
Born April 25, 1978, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Homer I. Gray and Faye Saville, both of Martinsburg.
He was a 1997 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, W.L. Saville and Lucille Saville of Martinsburg; stepfather Keith Custer of Martinsburg; three sisters, Lisa Gray Kirby, Donna Gray and Sabrina Gray, all of Martinsburg; two brothers, David Gray and Ronnie Gray, both of Martinsburg; and aunts.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Homer and Mona Gray.
Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Shane Wilt will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery with military graveside services conducted by members of Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW, Berkeley Post 14 American Legion and Amvets Post 38.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Susan I. Alger
RANSON, W.Va. - Susan Irene Hill Alger, 51, of Ranson, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md.
Born April 1, 1948, in McComb, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Grayson William and Anna Lee Carlisle Hill.
She was an accessions librarian at Charles Town Library. She also was a homemaker.
She was a member of Charles Town Baptist Church.
She was a member of Moose Lodge 948.
She is survived by her husband, David Lee Alger; two daughters, Jennifer Gayle Butrick of Ranson and Gwendolyn Sue Butrick of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a son, Douglas Ray Butrick of Hagerstown; three sisters, Judith A. Slusher of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Nancy G. Weakland of Erie, Colo., and Debra Kaye Stottlemyer of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Gregory W. Hill of Martinsburg and Terry Hill of Ranson; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Lynn Penwell.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Charles Town Baptist Church in Charles Town. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery in Charles Town.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home in Ranson.
Michael S. Feltner
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Michael Scott Feltner, 5, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 15, 1994, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of John Duwel and Mary Jean Feltner of Martinsburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Deshawn Tyler Cook of Martinsburg; grandparents Amy Lynn Johnson of Hagerstown and Joseph R. Feltner Sr. of Florida; and great-grandmother Imogene Fowler of Martinsburg.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Douglas J. Hollida will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Enid W. Strider
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Enid Willard Strider, 82, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Hill Crest Manor in Kearneysville, W.Va.
Born July 8, 1917, in O'Fallon, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Napoleon Bonaparte and Edna Spering Willard.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Col. Nicholas "Sam" Samuel Strider.
She had worked as a secretary for FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover; and was executive secretary to the Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army.
She was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Forty and Eight Society; Wayside Garden Club; volunteered at Meals on Wheels and Jefferson Memorial Hospital; and during World War II was a gray lady volunteer.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine Talbott Schwalenberg of St. Genevieve, Mo.; three sons, Dr. Michael Willard Strider of St. Leonard, Md., Steven Craig Strider of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Scott Douglas Strider of Manassas, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Minor.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Charles Town Presbyterian Church, Charles Town. The Rev. William Everhart will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va., at a later date.

Paul W. Rickel
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Paul W. "Hobart" Rickel, 76, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 17, 1923, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Charles W. And Ruth N. Jones Rickel.
He retired as a mobile engineer servicer for the VA Medical Center in 1985, after 25 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW; and Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eva F. Cloud Rickel; a daughter, Carolyn R. Miller of Martinsburg; a sister, Peggy L. Unger of Martinsburg; four brothers, Charles W. Rickel Jr. of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Raymond E. Rickel of Falling Waters, W.Va., Robert K. Rickel of Martinsburg and Donald F. Rickel of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose M. Rickel Foltz; and two brothers, Thomas Rickel and Calvin L. Rickel.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Chaplain Donald E. LaFaber will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery with military services by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where members of Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
