He was a member of Berkeley Post 14 American Legion, and Newton D. Baker Post 896, V.F.W.
He helped with the renovation of the Boys and Girls Club.
He is survived by five daughters, Janet Braithwaite of Darkesville, W.Va., Phyllis Messcora of Inwood, W.Va., Sophonia James of Gerrardstown, Maybert Marken of North Carolina, and Sharon Ann Burkley of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two sons, Harold Lee Fields of Odenton, Md., and James F. Fields of Oregon; one brother, Woodrow Shade of Martinsburg; 16 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Veda V. Shade; two brothers, Robert and Theodore Shade; and two sisters, Virginia Owens and Dorothy Miller.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Don Preston will officiate. Burial will be in Paynes Chapel cemetery with military services by Newton D. Baker Post 896 V.F.W. and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Elsie M. Dolan
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elsie M. Dolan, 74, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at City Hospital.
Born June 25, 1925, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche McDonald Clark.
Her husband, Warren C. Dolan, preceded her in death.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Inwood, W.Va.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Lynn Millione of Columbia, S.C.; one son, Robert Wayne Dolan of Gerrardstown; one sister, Rosalie Brady of Martinsburg; one brother, Bruce W. Clark of Martinsburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Jim Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Daisy B. Edmonson
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Daisy Belle Edmonson, 104, of 600 Washington St., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Colton Villa Nursing Center in Hagerstown.
Born June 15, 1895, in Loudoun Heights, Va., she was the daughter of the late Richard A. and Minnie Belle Edwards Virts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Edmonson.
She retired as a clerk from Harpers Ferry Post Office.
She was a member of Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry.
She was a past worthy matron of Charles Town Chapter 128 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Teri VanCamp of Bolivar, W.Va.; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lita E. Soccino Trayer.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery in Strasburg, Va.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.
Lester H. Mertz
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lester Howard Mertz, 80, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Born May 11, 1919, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Dorothy Lanheer Mertz Elwood.
He was a farmer.
He is survived by a sister, Martha Waters of Greencastle, Pa.; a brother, John Mertz of Martinsburg; two half-sisters, Bessie Riner of Martinsburg and Daisey Riner of Inwood, W.Va.; two half-brothers, Robert Elwood Jr. and Clifford Elwood, both of Martinsburg; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. G. Edward Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Wilbur S. Shanholtz Jr.
INWOOD, W.Va. - Wilbur S. Shanholtz Jr., 81, of Inwood, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at City Hospital.
Born April 21, 1918, in Augusta, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wilbur S. Sr. and Nettie Mae Hott Shanholtz.
He was a retired carpenter.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.
He is survived by two sisters, Goldie Smith of Romney, W.Va., and Clara Shanholtz of Hagerstown; one brother, James S. Shanholtz of Virginia; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Thursday at noon at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Myrtle C. Weaver
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Myrtle Cecelia Weaver, 95, of Harpers Ferry, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at her home.
Born March 20, 1904, in Bethlehem, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lillian Michael Hirschman.
Her husband, George William Weaver Jr., died May 5, 1963.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Wilma Lease of Mertztown, Pa.; two sons, David Weaver of Harpers Ferry and Frederick Weaver of Norristown, Pa.; a sister, Frances Fritch of Kempton, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Dale Weaver and Jay Klein Smith; and two brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Harold L. Jones Jr. will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 1 p.m. in George Washington Memorial Park in Plymouth, Pa.
