SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Felicia Henderson Cogan, 67, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 1, 1932, in DeQueen, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Marguerite Lee Henderson.
Her husband, Myles I.C. Cogan, D.D.S., died Oct. 7, 1997.
She was a cum laude graduate of Hockaday School; received a B.A. from University of Tulsa; and a M.A. from Trinity University, both with honors. As an undergraduate, she was president of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a member of Mortar Board, the leadership honor society.
She spent six years as a newspaper feature writer on the staff of Tulsa Daily World and the San Antonio Light. She was selected to be a member of the press corps traveling on Trans World Airlines' 1958 inaugural trans-Atlantic passenger jet flight.
She taught for five years at Southern Methodist University; and in 1971 joined the English faculty at Lord Fairfax Community College, Middletown, Va., retiring in 1997 as an associate professor.
She served as Liberal Arts program head and director of the honors program. In 1977, she founded Shenandoah Valley Writers' Guild and was a board member. She was listed in the Marquis Who's Who Among Teachers, received the Master Teacher Medal from the National Community College Leadership Program, and received the President's Medal of Commendation from LFCC.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Shepherdstown, and a lay reader, and a member of the Altar Guild and Vestry.
She was president of the Millbrook Orchestra Auxiliary and secretary of the Millbrook Orchestra Board; president of the Jefferson County Republican Women's Club; regent of the Pack Horse Ford Chapter; Daughters of the American Revolution; treasurer of United Daughters of the Confederacy; and DC (adult leader) of Shenandoah Valley Pony Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Courtenay Cogan Diederich of Middletown, Md.; and three grandchildren, Marc Diederich, William Diederich, and Clare Diederich.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Trinity Episcopal Church Columbarium, Shepherdstown. A private service will be held.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Parish Room at Trinity Episcopal Church, German Street, Shepherdstown.

Mildred F. Butts
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mildred Frances Jacobs Butts, 79, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 7, 1920, in Purcellville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Lula Grace Painter Jacobs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas Butts.
She was a seamstress for Jefferson Manufacturing.
She was a member of Tomahawk Christian Church.
She was a member of Moose Lodge 120.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel Butts of Woodbridge, Va., and Don Butts of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a brother, Luther Jacobs of Martinsburg; and four grandchildren .
She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Butts; two sisters, Gladys Bowers and Evelyn Johnson; and two brothers, Kenneth Jacobs and Lester Jacobs.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thomas G. McCabe
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Thomas George McCabe, 90, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.
Born May 10, 1909, in Petoskey, Mich., he was the son of the late George and Mary McKinnley McCabe.
He was formerly employed by the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by one son, Terrance Thomas McCabe of Durham, N.C.; and one granddaughter, Shannon M. McCabe.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Harris; and one brother, Albert McCabe.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Culpeper National cemetery in Culpeper, Va. The Rev. Leo Zonneveld will officiate.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
John W. Edwards
INWOOD, W.Va. - John Walter Edwards, 82, of Inwood, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at City Hospital.
Born June 11, 1917, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late George and Ella Hess Edwards.
He was retired from Lewis and Kilmer Orchards.
He was a member of United Commercial Travelers and AARP.
He was a Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife, Elinor Saville Edwards; a son, James W. Edwards of Inwood; three grandchildren, Jamie Edwards, Kimberly Barrett and Jessica Shafer; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Shafer; three sisters and five brothers. He was the last of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Revs. John E. Wright and Walter F. Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in Arden United Methodist Church cemetery, Arden, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arvilla V. Drummond
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Arvilla Virginia Drummond, 64, of Route 4, Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Jan. 29, 1935, in Middleburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence W. Sr. and Blanche Carter.
She was a former cook at FLOC Wilderness School at Harpers Ferry.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Charles E. Drummond Sr.; five daughters, Carolyn P. Frye and Loma L. Drummond, both of Harpers Ferry, Sharon M. Wentzell of Front Royal, Va., Cindy L. Meeks of Smithville, Tenn., and Vickie V. Drummond of Ranson; three sons, Charles E. Drummond Jr. of Ranson, John W. Drummond of Inwood, W.Va., and Allen Drummond Sr. of Harpers Ferry; five sisters, Georgia Herndon and Edith Grimes, both of Leesburg, Va., Margaret Butler of Mt. Airy, Md., Doris Jean Butler of Jacksonville, Fla., and Patricia Woodward of Sterling, Va.; three brothers, Lawrence Carter Jr., of Hamilton, Va., Daniel Carter of Elkridge, Md., and James Carter of Newport News, Va.; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Marcum.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ranson, Leetown Pike, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Mike Withem will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry and Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Juanita J. Starner
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Juanita Jewell Starner, 67, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at her home.
Born Dec. 21, 1932, in Rose Hill, Va., she was the daughter of the late William Edgar and Emma Houndshell Moore.
From 1980 until 1985, she was employed by Pleasant Living Nursing Home in Edgewater, Md. She worked for the Anne Arundel Board of Education from 1986 until 1989 in food service. She also was a homemaker.
She was a Methodist.
She is survived by her former husband, Richard LeRoy Starner Sr.; four daughters, Carol Peek and Patricia Smith, both of Glen Burnie, Md., Bonnie Starner of Millersville, Md., and Rose Mary Starner of Odenton, Md.; two sons, LeRoy Starner and Darryl Starner, both of Edgewater; a sister, Connie Elswick of Berkeley Springs; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Levi Moore, Emmett Moore and John Moore.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Donald Smith will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
