BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Charles W. Lownie, 74, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born April 27, 1925, in Lawrenceville, N.J., he was the son of the late Robert and Manerva Sommers Lownie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea Helen McDaniel, who died in 1995.
He was retired from Lawrenceville Prep School as a plumber and recently retired from Cacapon State Park, Berkeley Springs, in general maintenance.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4019 in Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by one son, Charles W. Lownie, Jr., of Yardley, Pa.; one sister, Manerva Thompson of Hieghtstown, N.J.; one brother, Carl Lownie of Washington Crossing, N.J.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Lownie, Roy Lownie and Larry Lownie.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Wayne Frum will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
Wilbur R. Bond
BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Wilbur R. "Flick" Bond, 78, of Spruce St., died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 9, 1920, in Bakerton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Samuel Howell and Anna Mills Bond.
He was a 1938 graduate of Harpers Ferry High School, where he was a lifetime member of Alumni Association.
He worked as a timekeeper with Standard Lime Company in Millville, W.Va. and later worked with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and in 1965 was appointed postmaster at Harpers Ferry until his retirement in 1981. He was then associated with the Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry and John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick, Md.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army assigned to the 30th Infantry Division as a medical supply sergeant. He received the Bronze Star and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He played baseball for the Jackson-Perks Post 71 American Legion, Charles Town, W.Va. He also coached amateur baseball and fast-pitch softball for many years including several appearances in the ASA Fast-Pitch World Series in Appleton, Wisc.
He was a member of Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry.
He was a Past Master of Logan Lodge 25 A.F&A.M., Harpers Ferry, Jefferson Chapter 5 Royal Arch Masons at Charles Town, Potomac Commandery 5 Knights Templar, Shepherdstown, W.Va., Grand Convention of Anointed High Priests of W.Va., Past Commander of Jackson-Perks Post 71 of the American Legion, Charles Town, life member of Friendship Fire Company, for 47 years having served as President and Chief at Harpers Ferry, Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Veterans Association, 30th Infantry Division Tar Heel Chapter, N.C. and A.A.R.P.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bettie Hoffman Bond; one daughter, Elizabeth Lee Auvil of Inwood, W.Va.; two sons, William Samuel of Cedar Park, Texas and Charles Wayne Bond of Centreville, W.Va.; one sister, Leota Alderton of Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Frances Bond, Elizabeth Thelma Bond and Genevieve Gifft.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends this evening and on Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Logan Lodge 25 A.F&A.M. All Master Masons are requested to meet at the Lodge Hall on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Margaret S. Dunn
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Margaret S. Dunn, 87, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, in City Hospital.
Born Aug. 19, 1912, in Shockeysville, Frederick County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Albert Marshall and R. Brunaugh Shockey Mason.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas T. "Tommy" Dunn.
She was a 1932 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
She was formerly employed with Martinsburg Paper Box Company.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one sister, June Mason Hornbaker of Hagerstown; one niece and one nephew.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Richard E. Webb
RANSON, W.Va. - Richard Eugene Webb, 63, of Ranson, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born March 31, 1936, in Millville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Earl and Eva Manuel Webb.
He retired from American Woodmark and he worked for J&L Stone Company, Blair, W.Va., for 26 years.
He was of Methodist faith.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3522.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Shorty" Virginia Webb; three sons, Stanley Eugene Webb of Hagerstown, Richard Addison Webb of Ranson, and Todd Allen Webb of Charles Town, W.Va.; four stepsons, Herbert Slusher of Weyers Cave, Va., Larry Slusher of Charles Town, Cliff Slusher of Inwood, W.Va., and Steve Slusher of Shannandale, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Kim Turner of Inwood; one sister, Mary Gaynor of Charles Town; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Yontz and four brothers, Robert Webb, Paul Webb, Charles Webb and Edgar Webb.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Assembly of God Church, Ranson. The Rev. William Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Dorothy Randall
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Dorothy Randall, 78, of Bunker Hill, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born July 12, 1921, in Paterson, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Claire Visbeck Lentz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Randall.
She retired from Charlie's Radiator Works, Paterson, as a secretary and was an independent exhibitor of horses.
She was a member of Reform Church, Wyckoff, N.J.
She is survived by one daughter, Eliazabeth Aliucci of Charles Town, W.Va.; one son, Charles Randall of Bunker Hill; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Elizabeth Weibrech Lentz.
Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at George Washington Memorial cemetery, Paramus, N.J.
