MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Anna Grobosky, 56, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born April 1, 1943, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of John Mason Watson Sr. of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and the late Anna Ruth Hammond Watson.
She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church in Shepherdstown.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Michael L. Grobosky; a daughter, Heather L. Miller of Martinsburg; a sister, Sandra Abrell of Dumfries, Va.; a brother, John Mason Watson Jr. of Martinsburg; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Covenant Baptist Church. The Revs. Michael Lowrey and Harry C. Young Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The casket will be taken to the church on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
William T. Nebel Sr.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - William T. Nebel Sr., 85, of Shepherdstown, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Feb. 19, 1914, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William E. and Mary Ellen Justice Nebel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary I. Thompson Nebel.
He retired as a journeyman mechanic.
He was a member of IAM.
He is survived by a daughter, Joan Harriette Souders of Valrico, Fla.; a son, William Thomas Nebel Jr. of Shepherdstown; a sister, Louise McCarl of Pennsylvania; a brother, Harry Frank Nebel of Stanley, Va.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Blue; and three brothers, Peter Nebel, Henry Nebel and James Nebel.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md. The Rev. Alva Thompson will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Melvin I. Potter
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Melvin I. Potter, 78, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born April 21, 1921, in Sleepy Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late Michael E. and Carrie Fox Potter.
He retired from DuPont Industries after 29 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II with Merrill's Marauders on the Burma Road.
He was a member of Faith Bible Church, Hedgesville.
He was a member of Jr. O.U.A.M. Council 117; Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60; and Pleasant View Community Center.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Youngblood Potter; three daughters, Linda Rudy of Jefferson, Md., Carol Miller of Manassas, Va., and Diane Fox of Hedgesville; two sons, Jerry Potter of Berkeley Springs and Michael Potter of Hedgesville; four sisters, Edith Weigle of Cherry Run, W.Va., Icie Schane of Tampa, Fla., Lenore Reed and Clara Mae Hovermale, both of Clear Spring; four brothers, Curtis Potter of Hagerstown, Cecil Potter of Hancock, Lester Potter and Sherman Potter, both of Hedgesville; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Rinard; and a brother, Ercel Potter.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Snyders Bible Church, Route 9 east of Berkeley Springs. The Revs. Joseph Mercer and Gary Kerns will officiate. Burial will be in Snyders Church Cemetery with military rites by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. Jr. Order Lodge will conduct a service at 6:45 p.m. The funeral home will be open from 1 p.m.

Michael E. Sheely
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Michael E. Sheely, 40, of Falling Waters, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 25, 1958, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Robert Sheely of Herndon, Va., and Beverly Hockenberry Schmidt of Falling Waters.
He was a 1977 graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School.
He was employed at Roach Oil.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Susan Kauffman Sheely; his stepmother, Susan Rissler Sheely of Herndon; his stepfather, Joseph Schmidt of Falling Waters; one sister, Carolyn Griffith of Italy; two brothers, Robert Craig Sheely of Germany and Keith Sheely of California.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cassandra Sheely; and a sister, Cynthia Sheely.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. John V. DiBacco, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dwight M. Mechem
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Dwight Miles Mechem, 82, of Great Cacapon, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at his home.
Born April 23, 1917, in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late Clinton G. and Gladys Allemong Mechem.
He was retired from T. H. Compton Corp. in 1980 after more than 50 years. He was named Mack Truck Driver of the Year in 1977 and was West Virginia Motor Truck Association Driver of the Year.
He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.
He was a member of Jr. O.U.A.M. Council 117, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and DeFord Masonic Lodge 88.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pearl C. Holliday Mechem; one daughter, Monna Lea Hurst of Great Cacapon; one son, Phillip Owen Mechem of Great Cacapon; one sister, Esther McBee of Berkeley Springs; two granddaughters; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth H. Mechem; two brothers, Gladstone Mechem and Glenn Mechem; and a grandson, Dwight Arthur Mechem.
Graveside services and burial will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Mount Nebo Cemetery. The Rev. Hennis Fox will officiate.

Pauline G. Lydard
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Pauline Grace Lydard, 70, of Charles Town, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at the residence of Tina Willis, Inwood, W.Va., under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born Nov. 28, 1928, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Paul Upton and Mary B. Myers Gordon.
She formerly owned and operated Peddlers Paradise Store in Charles Town.
She was a member of Shenandoah United Methodist Church in Millville, W.Va.
She is survived by one son, Robert Thompson of Charles Town; one sister, Helen Pollinger of Olney, Md.; two grandchildren, Carolyn Thompson and Bobby Thompson; three nieces, and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Burrell.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Millville United Methodist Church, Millville. The Rev. James Hamrick will officiate. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation.
