Richard E. Workman, age 64, of Pine Tree Acres, Arbovale, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at his home. Born August 24, 1943, at Marlinton, he was a son of the late Grace Workman Curry.
Richard was a retired bus driver.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert L. Curry.
Surviving him are his daughter, Debbie Workman, of Marlinton; three sons, Richie Workman and Mark Workman, of Marlinton, and Steven Workman, of Christiansburg, Virginia; a sister, Barbara Ann McCarty, of Frost; and several grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Monday morning at Arbovale Cemetery by the Rev. David Rittenhouse.
Glen C. Nottingham
Glen C. Nottingham, age 60, of Durbin, died Monday, October 1, 2007.
Born March 14, 1947, at Elkins, he was the son of the late Forrest and Irene Varner Nottingham.
Glen was a farmer, an avid hunter and fisherman.
Other than his parents, Glen was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Nottingham.
Surviving him are his wife, Donean Smith Nottingham, and step-mother, Dorothy Nottingham, both of Durbin.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale, with burial in the Nottingham Family Cemetery.
Jane VanReenen Dilley
Jane VanReenen Dilley, age 92, of Warren, Ohio, passed away September 26, 2007.
She was born December 20, 1914, at West Union, near Marlinton.
She attended Marshall University and graduated from Youngstown State University. She taught in Marlinton and retired from Willard Elementary School in Warren, Ohio.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Ralph Dilley; son, John; and her parents, William and Naomi McCoy VanReenen. Also preceding her in death were eight brothers, Bernard, Albert, Lonnie, Gilbert, Porter, Forrest, Hubert, Carl, and two sisters, Ella Tyler and Margaret Barlow.
She was an active member of Todd Avenue United Methodist Church. She was also a member of State Retired Teacher's Association, Ohio Education Association, National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Survivors include her sister, Myrtle V. Frampton, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, brother-in-law, Robert Dilley, of Warren, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to Southern Care Hospice, 5401 Ashley Circle, Suite E. Austintown, OH 44515.
Viola J. Basham
Viola J. Basham, age 85, of Peterstown, died Monday, October 8, 2007, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, Virginia.
Born April 30, 1922, in Cokato, Minnesota, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Amanda Holt Johnson.
Mrs. Basham was of the Baptist faith, attending the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church and the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Greenville. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and an Amateur Ham Radio Operator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Basham; one sister, Gladys Watson; a granddaughter, Dawn Michelle Hull Prado; and her mother-in-law, Mattie Basham.
Survivors include five daughters, Janet and husband, Harold Dickson, of Lindside; Karel and husband, Bill Hull, of Peterstown, Connie and husband, Dale Gray, of Herndon, Virginia, LyAnn Zelinsky, of Marlinton, and Wilma and husband, Kenny Sprouse, of Peterstown; seven grandchildren, Tammy Miller, Missy Wright, Jason Dickson, Cassi Skiff, Brian Wickham, Desiree Sprouse, and Nicki Sprouse; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at Wickline Funeral Home in Lindside with Elder Norvel Mann and Elder Paul Williams officiating. Burial followed at Peterstown Cemetery.
Kyle C. Dilley
Kyle C. Dilley, age 85, of Charleston, died September 29, 2007, in Hubbard Hospice House after an extended illness.
He was a member of Southeast Church of the Nazarene. He was a skilled carpenter and retired from C. W. Moore Construction Company. He was an Army veteran and Purple Heart Recipient of World War II.
Mr. Dilley was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Surviving him are his wife, Doris Dilley; son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Connie Dilley, of Hurricane; son, Joseph "Joe" Dilley, of Teays Valley; three grandchildren, Stephanie Thaxton and husband, Scott, Erika Cale and husband, Eric, and J. D. "Joe" Dilley; three great-grandchildren, Lindsay Paige Taxton, Lauren Elizabeth Cale, and Preston Isaiah Cale.
The service was held October 2 at Johnson-Harding Funeral Home, Kanawha City, with pastor Ollie Parsons officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Garden of Memories.
Lowell Vernon Heisey
Lowell Vernon Heisey, age 88, of Bridgewater, Virginia, died early Sunday, October 7, 2007, at his home following a brief illness with cancer. Mr. Heisey was born October 1, 1919, in Shou Yang Hsien, Shansi Province in China, and was the son of missionary parents, the late Walter and Sue Rinehart Heisey. He graduated from Manchester College, North Manchester, Indiana, and received a Ph.D. from Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana. He was a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. Mr. Heisey was a Professor of Chemistry for 36 years at Bridgewater College, retiring in 1986. In 1986-1987 he served as a Fulbright professor in Liberia. In retirement he was active with Refugee Resettlement Programs and as a volunteer for the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In July 1, 1945, he married Hazel R. Snavely, who survives. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Maylee Heisey-Samuels, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three sons, Galen Snavely Heisey, of Torrance, California, Loren Rinehart Heisey, of San Marcos, California, and Curtis White sell Heisey, of Sudbury, Massachusetts; a sister, Frances Louise Blanchaine, of Bridgewater; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pastors Robert Alley and Wendell Eller conducted a memorial service Tuesday at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. Millicent J. Brandstetter
Millicent J. Brandstetter, age 85, of Anaheim, California, died October 12.
She is the sister of Edith Hannah, of Buckeye, and R. Sue Hollandsworth, of Slaty Fork.

Mashayla Raine Anderson
Mashayla Raine Anderson, stillborn daughter of William Arthur Anderson, Jr., and Melody Dawn Smith, of Durbin, died Friday, October 12, 2007, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
Maternal grandparents are Robert V. and Gloria A. Smith, of Durbin; paternal grandparents are William Arthur Anderson, Sr., of Richmond, Virginia, and Ada Waddy Anderson, of Charlottesville, Virginia; maternal great-grandfather is William Warner, of Bartow; and paternal great-grandfather is William Waddy, of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Funeral service was held Monday afternoon at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale by the Rev. Harold Swecker. Burial was in the Arbovale Cemetery Annex.
Virginia Ellen Tracey Crowder
Virginia Ellen Tracey Jordan Crowder, age 84, died on Friday, October 12, 2007.
Born at Mace on May 31, 1923, she was a caregiver and homemaker and member of the Zoar Baptist Church.
She passed away with her family by her side, at her granddaughter's home in West Chester, Pennsylvania , where she had made her home for the last ten years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Grace Tracey; her husbands, Hiner Bea Jordan and Tracy Binford Crowder; a daughter, Janet Grace Jordan; brothers, Roy Elwood, Wallace, Lyle, and Forrest Lee Tracey; sisters, Mary Margaret Tracey, Joella Simmons, and Shirley Jean Sharp.
She is survived by a brother, Amon Tracey, and wife, Linda, of Mace; a son, Roy Allen Jordan, and wife, Rita, of Millboro, Virginia; two grandchildren, Teresa Rene Atkins and husband, Jim, of West Chester, Pennsylvania , and Michael Allan Jordan and wife, Shelley, of Fredricksburg, Virginia; four great-grandchildren, James Ryan Atkins, Jacqueline Rose Atkins, Nolan Allen Jordan and Grace Michelle Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
Her love of life was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her extended family.
Funeral service was conducted on October 16 at the VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton with Pastor Roland Buccialia. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
Doris Jean Pingley
Doris Jean Pingley, age 70, of Durbin, died Friday, October 12, 2007, at Carillon Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Born February 1, 1937, at Cass, she was a daughter of the late Glenn and Lela Nottingham Moore.
She was of the Brethren faith and was a member of the Marlinton Moose Lodge. She was a waitress, cook and hostess. She loved crocheting, bingo, reading, cooking and was an animal lover.
Mrs. Pingley is survived by her husband, Willard N. Pingley; three sons, Ronnie David McLaughlin and wife, Donna Denise, and Michael Ray McLaughlin and wife, Barbara Elaine, both of Charles County, Maryland, and Glenn Edward Lockey and wife, Elizabeth, of Elkins; step-son, Jerry Allen Pingley, of Elkins; brother, Charles Moore and wife, Maxine, of Piscataway, New Jersey; five granddaughters, three step-granddaughters, five step-great-grandchildren, two nephews, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale by the Rev. David Rittenhouse, with burial in the Gum Cemetery.
