Ramona Ruth Berry

Ramona Ruth Richards Berry, 78, formerly of Hadley Lane, Fairfax, Va., died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley.

She was born Aug. 2, 1928, to John W. and Clara Beasley Richards, who preceded her in death.

She was graduated from Mount Hope High School and attended Beckley College. She was a member of Xi Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority while in Beckley.

She married Maj. Eugene Victor Berry in 1958, who preceded her in death in 1994.

She was employed by the United States Army as secretary in the Office of the Secretary of the Army at The Pentagon until her retirement. She was a member of the Arlington Ladies, the Fairfax Republican Party and St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Fairfax.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Charles and Warren Richards; sisters, Julia Steplowski, Freda Kennedy, Willie Tyree, Sarah Johnson, Geraldine Biggs and Betty Robinette; and nephews, Jim Johnson, Bill Johnson and Bob Kennedy.

Surviving her are nephews, Charles Richards of Boones Mill, Va., Ann Rene Vokonas of Chesapeake, Va., Mary Ann Sheehan of Hopewell, Va., Patty Atkins of Charleston, Richard Long of Huntington, Joe Long of Ghent, Dr. Charles Sisson of Huntington, Ruth Blackburn of Lago Vista, Texas, Mike Cook of Blacksburg, Va., and Susan Berry, David Berry, Pam Johnson and Chuck Cook, all of Virginia; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, Va., with graveside rites at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Arlington National cemetery.

Linda Lou Bailey Chambers

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Mrs. Linda Lou Bailey Chambers, 63, passed away peacefully Friday, April 21, 2006, at her home in Fayetteville, N.C., after an extended illness.

Linda was born in Belva on Oct. 31, 1942. The youngest of eight children, she graduated in 1960 from Gauley Bridge High School and lived the majority of her life in Gauley Bridge, and then Peterstown.

While raising her children, she earned her real estate license and became a broker/co-owner of Chambers Realty in Narrows, Va. After retiring to Fayetteville, N.C., Linda became an active member of the Cross Creek Garden Club.

In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Linda will be remembered as a talented chef, gardener, seamstress, decorator, quilter, artist, photographer, craftswoman and singer. Her beautiful smile and thoughtful, affectionate ways will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, William Martin Bailey and Lula Mae Copenhaver Bailey of Belva; her sister, Betty Bailey VanMeter of Belva; and her brothers, James Warren Bailey of Wilmington, N.C., and William Edward Bailey of Cleveland, Ohio.

Linda leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Bill Jack Chambers; her daughter and son-in-law, Joni Kincaid Lamb and Robert Lamb of Richmond Hill, Ga.; her son and daughter-in-law, Carson and Bridget Chambers of Goose Creek, S.C.; and her son, Cody Chambers of Bluefield. Linda dearly loved her two precious grandsons, Ethan and Conner Chambers, also of Goose Creek. Her surviving siblings include Walter Bailey of Chambersburg, Pa., Robert Bailey of Fayetteville, N.C., Virginia Bailey Ratliff of Brooks and Norma Bailey Smith of Shady Spring. She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews, as well as their children.

Edna Josephine Crotty

LOOKOUT — Edna Josephine Crotty, 87, passed away Friday, April 28, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 30, 1918, at Lillybrook, and was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Effie Cutlip Carr.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Ansted, a retired outreach worker with the Fayette County Commission on Aging and of the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rush Carey Crotty; three sisters; and a grandson.

Survivors include four daughters, Caron L. Dobbs of Freeport, Texas, Elaine Sue “Penny” Legg of Lookout, Louella Jane Howlett of Bradley and Rebecca Gene Campbell of Beaver; a sister, Phyllis Soto of San Gabriel, Calif.; a brother, Eugene Carr of Ruskin, Fla.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial service is pending.

BIRCH RIVER — Billy Dodrill, 82, died Friday, April 28, 2006.

Bobby Frank ‘Bob’ Herndon

LEWISBURG — Bobby Frank “Bob” Herndon, 70, of Lewisburg, passed away Friday, April 28, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ethan Tyler Lowe

Ethan Tyler Lowe, much cherished and beloved newborn son of Joshua and Jennifer Lowe, went home to be an angel forever on Friday, April 28, 2006.

Ethan was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, James Vernon Richardson; and great-aunt, Vickie Lynn Richardson Arthur.

Ethan will be greatly missed and forever remembered, not only by his loving parents, but his grandparents, Robbie and Denise Milam, Carol Richardson and Norman Stephens, Joe and Rebecca Wood, and Lester Lowe; his great-grandparents, James and Mary Richardson, Jerry and Melva Wood, William O. and Ann Tolliver, and Buddy and Carol Milam; his uncle, Cody Lowe, and aunt, Cara, and uncle, Jonathan Hayton; as well as numerous great-uncles, great-aunts and cousins.

Never forgotten and always loved, our son, Ethan.

Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. today at Tolliver cemetery, Twin Falls State Park, Saulsville, with the Rev. William O. Tolliver officiating.

Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, by 1:15 p.m.

Mitchell ‘Lenny’ Plumley

Mitchell “Lenny” Plumley, 28, of Beckley, passed away at 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006.

He was born Oct. 11, 1977, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Survivors include his father, Ronald Plumley of Beckley; mother, Susan Tilley of Beckley; his wife, Lena Plumley; and a stepson, Johnny Clement.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Darrell McNeely officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Tuesday at the funeral home.

James L. Puckett Sr.

OAK HILL — James L. Puckett Sr., 74, passed away Friday, April 28, 2006, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.

Born March 8, 1932, at Vale in Greenbrier County, he was the son of the late Loren C. Puckett and Lovie Dietz Puckett.

James was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was also a former Fayette County deputy sheriff with over 12 years of service and was a Mason with the Grand Lodge of West Virginia AS and AM, Midland Trail Masonic Lodge No. 166 AF and AM of Rainelle.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Brenda Puckett; children, James L. Puckett II of Spring Dale, Patricia Williamson and husband, Lex, of Charleston, Kristie Alexander and husband, John, of Princeton and Tina Wilson of Virginia; a sister, Betty Lazear of Ohio; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Pete Lokant officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret Billings Sentz

CHOTEAU, Mont. — Margaret Billings Sentz, 97, of Choteau, formerly of Hinton, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, in Choteau, where she resided with her son Gene and his wife Linda.

Born Aug. 17, 1908 in Afton, Va., she was the daughter of the late Rev. E.W. Billings and Mabel Pace Billings.

Margaret spent most of her younger life in Virginia and graduated with an A.B. degree from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond in Virginia. In 1931 she moved with her family to Hinton. She taught school in both Richmond and in Summers County. She was married to A.F. “Pete” Sentz on June 3, 1937, in Washington, D.C.

Margaret was active in church and community activities, and was a member of the Delphi Club and the Stitch and Chatter Club. She formerly served First Baptist Church of Hinton as music director and organist, and also was youth director, Sunday school teacher and deaconess emeritus. She was a great supporter and promoter of the youth work and missionary outreach of her church, and her church family and friends remained in her daily prayers until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.F. “Pete” Sentz, in 1986, and by her only sister, Mary Billings, in 1980.

She is survived by two sons, Gene F. Sentz and wife, Linda, of Choteau and Thomas E. Sentz and wife, Judy, of Summersville; two grandchildren, Sarah H. Sentz of Choteau and Andrew F. Sentz of Summersville; and a great-grandson, Thomas A. Sentz of Summersville.

Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Ronald Cobb, pastor of First Baptist Church of Hinton, officiating. Burial will be in Monte Vista Park cemetery, Bluefield.

Friends may call 11:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Men of First Baptist Church of Hinton will serve as pallbearers.

The family suggests donations be made in Margaret’s memory to First Baptist Church of Hinton, 108 Temple St., Hinton, WV 25951, or to Choteau United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 108, Choteau, MT 59422.

Charles A. Shrewsbury

ROCK — Charles A. Shrewsbury, 74, of Bicknal Flats Road, Rock, died Friday, April 28, 2006.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Friends may call 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton.

Friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:45 a.m.

George Edwin Toney

George Edwin Toney, 60, of Sullivan Road, Glen Morgan, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.

Born in Beckley on Aug. 11, 1945, he was the son of the late Fred Edwin Toney and Mildred Marie Thornton Toney.

Mr. Toney was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of Verizon, where he was a cable splicer technician. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Mr. Toney loved woodworking, fishing, and was an avid coin collector. He dearly loved his grandchild.

He was greatly loved and will always be remembered by his wife, Laura Ann Shirkey Toney; sons, George Edwin Toney Jr. of Lakeland, Fla., and Michael David Toney and wife, Sonda, of Shady Spring; his brother, Roy Roger Toney and fiancee, Bonnie Brown, of Lakeland; sisters, Carrie Derringer and husband, Edward, of Mabscott and Wanda Perry and husband, Robert, of St. Augustine, Fla.; a granddaughter, Abigail; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Delmas Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Dearnell, Ron McCormick, Bob Hart, Rick Holliday, Norman Shirkey, David Shirkey and Rob Perry.
