Keith Marion Shoumaker

Keith Marion Shoumaker, 86, of Sheridan died Nov. 8, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Mr. Shoumaker was born May 31, 1921, in Buffalo to Wiley and Evelyn Shoumaker. He grew up and attended schools in Buffalo and was a 1939 graduate of Johnson County High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Army Air Corps in North Africa, England and Italy during World War II. He was discharged in spring 1945. He married Joyce Searcy on Dec. 7, 1945, in Hardin, Mont. They made their home in Buffalo, where Mr. Shoumaker ranched and served as Johnson County assessor for 16 years. The family moved in 1978 to Wright, where he worked for Rocky Mountain Energy mining uranium. He retired in 1986, and the family returned to Buffalo until moving to Sheridan in 2003. Mr. Shoumaker had resided in Sheridan VAMC's nursing facility for a year. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and past member of the American Legion. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed horses, spending time in the mountains and hunting. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and an infant sister. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a son, Michael Shoumaker of Gillette; a daughter, Lennetta Fivecoat of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Johnson County Library, Big Print Books Program, in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Terry Weiss

Memorial services for former Sheridan resident Terry Weiss, 41, of Evanston will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheridan with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Weiss died Nov. 6, 2007, in Evanston of natural causes. He was born Sept. 2, 1966, in Murdo, S.D., to Richard and Carol Weiss. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Norris, S.D., and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, S.D. After graduating at the top of his high school class, he joined the Army in 1985 in Fort Benning, Ga. He was honorably discharged. He enjoyed travel, books, cars, movies and spending time with children. Survivors include his parents of Dayton; and two sisters, Michelle Garhart of Newcastle and Kathy Bettcher of Sheridan.

Mildred Herrick Lindquist Taylor

Former Sheridan resident Mildred Herrick Lindquist Taylor, 93, of Worland died Nov. 4, 2007, in the Wyoming Retirement Center there. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Worland with Pastor Sean Matako officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery in Worland. Mrs. Taylor was born Dec. 3, 1913, in Iowa to Edgar and Minnie (Osborn) Herrick. Her parents died of the Spanish flu in 1918, and she was raised by her older sisters. She attended country schools, where she enjoyed playing baseball at recess. She also enjoyed dancing. She married Milo Lindquist in 1930. The family moved to the West Coast in 1944, and Mrs. Taylor and her husband worked in the Kaiser shipyard in Vancouver, Wash. The couple divorced in 1945, and Mrs. Taylor moved to Oregon with her children. She married Horace Tex Taylor in 1948, and they moved to Worland, where she worked at Simons grocery store and Gambles. In 1958, the family moved to Sheridan, where Mrs. Taylor worked at Sears. She and her husband later managed a trailer court and were assistants at senior citizens' apartments here. Mr. Taylor died in 1987, and Mrs. Taylor returned to Worland to live near one of her daughters. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles, a brother, and six sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Elsie St. Clair, Marjorie Harward and Deanna Hammond; two stepchildren, Iris Reynolds and Ronnie Taylor; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandson. Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Humane Society in care of Bryant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.

Katherine Martini Reed

Funeral services for Katherine Martini Reed, 94, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Mrs. Reed died Nov. 1, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She was born Sept. 25, 1913, to George and Caroline (Oberbach) Smith in a rock house on Tongue River. The home is still there. Mrs. Reed attended school at Piney and later at Murphy Gulch, where the family built a home in 1922. In 1928 she attended one year of high school in Gillette while living with her sister. She finished high school in Sheridan while working for Dr. Veach for room and board. She received her Normal Training certificate through a postgraduate program and taught all eight grades in a one-room school on Murphy Gulch in 1934 and 1935. She married Henry E. Hank Martini in Billings on May 19, 1934. He died Dec. 29, 1971. Mrs. Reed married Harold Reed on Dec. 8, 1985. He died Dec. 29, 1995. Mrs. Reed was a member of First Christian Church since 1943 and also belonged to Odd Fellows, Eagles, Homemakers and Good Sam's RV Club. She volunteered at the hospital and Sheridan Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed gardening, church activities, volunteer work, television game shows, crossword puzzles, writing in her daily journal, reading the Bible, and spending time with her family. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Moe Martini; a daughter, Jean Bennett; two brothers; three sisters; and four grandsons. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Taylor of Yuma, Ariz., and Judy Lawrence of Greenfield, Mo.; a son, Jerry Martini of Sheridan; a sister, Dorothy Anderson of Olympia, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit First Christian Church.

Mary Matejovitz

Mary Matejovitz, 93, Sheridan, died Nov. 5, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. A memorial service will be later with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born March 24, 1914, in Kooi to Joseph and Frances (Mates) Matejovitz, she married Louis Matejovitz on Nov. 20, 1932, in Monarch. Mrs. Matejovitz belonged to Holy Name Catholic Church and Burlington Northern Railroad Auxiliary. Her husband, a brother, and three sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Louise Mae Roush of Pueblo West, Colo.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. The family thanks the Westview staff for its care of Mrs. Matejovitz.

Cecile Almira (Bilter) Sanborn

Former Sheridan resident Cecile Almira (Bilter) Sanborn, 74, of Richmond, Maine, died Nov. 2, 2007, in her residence following a long illness. At her request, no formal services will be held. She was born May 11, 1933, in Skowhegan, Maine, to John F. Bilter and Lena Mae (Cobb) Bilter. She grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., Portland, Maine, and Gray, Maine, where she graduated from Pennell High School in 1951. She joined the U.S. Air Force soon after graduation. After a short term in the military, she returned to Maine and worked as a waitress. She married Raymond W. Sanborn on Aug. 18, 1958, in Portland, Maine. They returned to Gray and later lived in Sheridan and Topsham, Maine, before moving to Richmond in 1991. Mrs. Sanborn spent much of her life as a homemaker and mother. She was a cribbage player and trivia buff and enjoyed raising exotic fowl. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Michael and John, and a grandson. Survivors include her husband; six daughters, Sheril Lillard, Kaye Bouchard, Cynthia Sanborn, Rae Hoskins, Lori Woods and Cecile Greenman; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Adeline Maud Bono

BUFFALO - Adeline Maud Bono, 77, of Buffalo died Nov. 4, 2007, in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Murphy as celebrant. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery with graveside committal services to follow. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Kenneth T. Calkins

Former Sheridan resident Kenneth T. Calkins, 62, of Denver died Nov. 2, 2007, in Denver after a long battle with cancer. His wife, Sandy, and son and daughter-in-law Seth and Jasmine will have a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church. A celebration of Mr. Calkins' life will follow at the home of Susan Brayton, 610 Jefferson St. Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. John's, 1320 Everett Court, Lakewood, CO 80215.

Thelma Mae Sorensen

Thelma Mae Sorensen, 70, of Sturgis, S.D., died Nov. 2, 2007, in Sturgis Regional Health Care Center. She was mother of David Sorensen of Sheridan and Kevin Sorensen of Dayton. Mass of Christian Burial was this morning at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis. Burial will be later. Arrangements are with Kinkade Funeral Home in Sturgis. Mrs. Sorensen was born in Wagner, S.D., to John and Dorothy (Payer) Hron. She married Merl Sorensen in 1957, and the family moved to Sturgis in 1962. She and her husband were divorced in 1978. She enjoyed hiking, playing cards and spending time with friends and family. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and the Homebound Ministry. She worked as deputy registrar of deeds for nine years, in medical centers for 18 years, and at Pamida for five years. Survivors include a third son, the Rev. Bryan Sorensen of Martin, S.D.; a daughter, Valerie Meirose of Sturgis; her mother of Baraboo, Wis.; two sisters, Wilma Leonard of West Baraboo, Wis., and Joan Kniffen of Livermore, Colo.; a brother, Bob Hron of Virginia Beach, Va.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kenneth M. Lee

BUFFALO - Kenneth M. Lee, 89, of Buffalo died Oct. 31, 2007, in Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Russ Murphy officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., with military graveside honors. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Christina A. Belder

Former Sheridan resident Christina Ann Belder, 36, Watkins, Colo., died Nov. 1, 2007, in Watkins after a short illness, her family announced. Cremation has taken place, and services will be scheduled later. Born Aug. 17, 1971, in Northfield, Minn., to John A. and Marcia Belder, she enjoyed travel, animals, and nature, and the outdoors. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Marcia and Leland Leslie of Sheridan; her father of Batesville, Ark.; and a brother, John R. Belder of Memphis, Tenn. Memorials may benefit Lunch Together/Soup Kitchen in care of First Christian Church, 102 S. Connor St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Edna P. Maxted

Edna Phyllis Maxted, 81, Sheridan, died Dec. 27, 2007, in Dickinson, N.D. Viewing is 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church, the Rev. John Jackson officiating, with burial in Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Gearldean Kelly

Gearldean Kelly, 80, Buffalo, died Dec. 26, 2007, at Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo. Private services are Thursday in Willow Grove cemetery, Buffalo. Memorials may benefit Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Adrienne `Adie' Irene

Adrienne Adie Irene, 83, Sheridan, died Dec. 25, 2007, at Sheridan Manor. Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor William Heine officiating. Interment of cremains will be at a later date in Elk Mountain. Born June 23, 1924, in Laramie to Bernard and Carrie Mae Irene, she graduated from Laramie High School in 1942 and attended the University of Wyoming, where she belonged to Pi Phi Sorority. She married Warren Cowdin in 1944 in Laramie; they divorced. She married Louie Irene in 1972, and they ranched in Leo until he died. She retired to Sheridan in 1984. A member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Mrs. Irene was a Wyoming history buff and also enjoyed music, flowers, her garden, nature, and spending time with her grandchildren, who all knew her as Boo. She was known as a great cook. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Fluty. She was the special friend of Gene Hauf of Casper, and the late Olin Sims was her special nephew. Survivors include three children, John Cowdin of Medicine Bow, Carol Mayfield of Casper, and Cathy Bohnsack of Sheridan; a sister, Mary Benson of Laramie; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Rock Creek Fire Department, Arlington Route, McFadden, WY 82083 or St. Joseph's Children's Home, P.O. Box 1117, Torrington, WY 82240. Condolences may be sent to the family at 1413 Emerson St., Sheridan. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Cleo Nadene Zowada

Cleo Nadene Zowada, 78, Sheridan, died Dec. 24, 2007, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, Buffalo, the Rev. George Tellez officiating, followed by graveside services at Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 8-9:30 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Born Jan. 31, 1929, in Upton to Wray and Leora Case, she moved as a child with her family to Sheridan, where she grew up and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1946. She married Walter Dude Zowada on Nov. 17, 1946, in Sheridan. They resided in Monarch. They moved to Sheridan for a short time and later to Buffalo, where they lived and worked at the Highway Department maintenance camp on Pole Creek for 30 years. They retired in 1984 and moved into Buffalo. Mr. Zowada died in April 2007, and Mrs. Zowada moved to Sheridan. A charter member of the Creative Fiber Guild, she also belonged to Big Horn Mountain Polka Club, Snow Buffs Snowmobile Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Homemakers Guild, and National Rifle Association. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, shooting small-bore rifles, hunting artifacts, gardening, knitting, quilting, and cross-stitching. In addition to her husband, a sister preceded her in death. Survivors include two brothers, Dawson Case of Ranchester and Tom Case of Sheridan; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit Buffalo Senior Center in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Lawson R. Ott Jr.

Burial will be Thursday in Black Hills National cemetery, Sturgis, S.D., for Lawson R. Ott Jr., 57, Buffalo, who died Dec. 19, 2007, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Born Aug. 2, 1950, in Boston to Mr. and Mrs. Lawson R. Ott Sr., he served in the Army from 1970 until his honorable discharge in 1972. Memorials may benefit any program that assists veterans. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

William D. Sheehan

William D. Bill Sheehan, 98, Buffalo, died Dec. 21, 2007, at Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo, the Rev. Pete Johnson officiating. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home, Buffalo. Interment will be in Chicago. Memorials may benefit Amie Holt Care Center in care of Adams Funeral Home.
