Elizabeth `Betty' Langer

A memorial service for Elizabeth Betty Langer, 88, of Sheridan will be 3 p.m. May 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Phil Wold officiating. Funeral services will be in Milwaukee at a time to be announced. Local arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Langer died May 12, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. She was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Milwaukee to John and Eva Walter, who emigrated from Hungary to the United States. She lived in various places in Wisconsin until 2001, when she moved to Dubois to be closer to her daughter. She worked at a defense plant during World War II, starting as a worker on the floor and later becoming a supervisor in a tool and die plant in West Allis, Wis., that made parts for supercharger airplane engines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Heinz Langer, and a brother, John Walter Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Wendtland of Sheridan; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 707, Dubois, WY 82513 or to Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Drive, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Georgia Mae Popp

Georgia Mae Popp, 74, of Sheridan died May 7, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Gillette. Funeral services are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Popp was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Converse County to George William and Flossie May (Faulkner) Scobee. She attended Woodland Park Elementary School in Sheridan and Sheridan High School. She married Lynn Popp on May 31, 1951, in Billings. She enjoyed cross-stitching, plastic canvas, crafts, fishing, camping, reading, hunting and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Eugene. Survivors include two sons, Robert and Dennis, both of Gillette; two daughters, Debra Popp of Sheridan and Annette Canfield of Gillette; two brothers, William Scobee of Spearfish, S.D., and Henry Scobee of Ranchester; a sister, Rose Butler of Sheridan; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gertrude M. Brace

Gertrude M. Brace, 86, of Banner died May 7, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. A private family service will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Brace was born Aug. 9, 1920, in New Leipzig, N.D., to Jacob and Mary (Klein) Hochhalter. She grew up and attended schools in North Dakota. She married Merwin Brace in 1946; they lived in Grand Lodge, Mich. She worked for Cutler Plastics in Lansing, Mich., until she retired. She moved to Eagle, Colo., for 12 years, then returned to Michigan. She moved to Sheridan in June 2006 to be near family. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, reading and making rag rugs. She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters, Mary Ann and Amy Lou. Survivors include a daughter, Dora Prince of Banner; a brother, Edwin Hochhalter of North Dakota; a sister, Delores Kuntz of North Dakota; and three grandchildren. Memorials may benefit the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Mayfield, VA 22116.

Gerald `Jerry' Townsend

A celebration of the life of Gerald Jerry Townsend, 70, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Mr. Townsend died May 5, 2007, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. He was born May 30, 1936, in Sheridan to Agnes A. (Donahue) Townsend and Cyrus C. Townsend. He attended school in Sheridan and joined the Marine Corps in 1953. He served until 1957, attaining the rank of sergeant. He married Karen Mullock on Jan. 10, 1970. Mr. Townsend was in the retail liquor business for 40 years, including 22 years in partnership at the Rainbow Bar with a brother and 18 at the Rendezvous Liquor and Lounge with his wife. He was secretary of the Wyoming State Liquor Dealers Association for four years and retired from his business in 2001. He drove the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center mini-bus from October 2002 until Oct. 1, 2005, when he resigned for health reasons. He enjoyed hunting, camping, barbecues and games with family and friends, and his dog, Precious. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick and Randy, and two brothers, Don and Darrell, all of Sheridan; a sister, Barbara Lilley of California; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801 or to Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Willard W. Given

Graveside services for former Sheridan resident Willard W. Given, 87, of Greeley, Colo., will be 11 a.m. Monday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Given died May 2, 2007, in Greeley. He was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Sheridan to Warren B. and Neil (Warriner) Given. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. He was a World War II veteran of the European Theater. He married Geraldine Beck on Dec. 29, 1943, in Sheridan. She died in 2006. A professional mechanical and electrical engineer, he started his own business in 1956 doing work in heating, plumbing and electrical designs. He lived in Salina, Kan., for one year, St. Louis for 40 years, and Cheyenne for 15 years. He was a member of Missouri Athletic Club, the St. Louis Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, St. Louis Engineer's Club, American Consulting Engineer's Council, and Rotary International. Survivors include a son, James of Morrison, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Rosalie Elizabeth Schrader

Funeral services for Rosalie Elizabeth Schrader, 65, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Keller officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks cemetery. Viewing will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Schrader died May 2, 2007, at her residence. She was born July 17, 1941, in Pierce County, N.D., to Anna and Clemens Volk. She lived in Sheridan County for 36 years. She worked in various jobs including as a waitress, food and beverage manager, and department store associate. She enjoyed her family and friends and the outdoors. She married Lee Schrader in 1991. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Darrell Bocek and Wayne Bocek; two daughters, Charlene Bocek and Lisa Maney; three stepchildren, James, Shane and Michelle Schrader; eight sisters, Mary Smith, Barbara Patterson, Sylvia Squire, Jeanette Krohn, Lorraine Altepeter, Sheila Ingram, Verrice Brossart and Laura Bradley; two brothers, Ray and Ronald Volk; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Elks cemetery Fund, 45 W. Brundage St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Ruth Amanda Hanson

Ruth Amanda Hanson, 92, of Sheridan died May 2, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Private family graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Willow Grove cemetery, Buffalo, with Phil Dillinger officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today and 8-9 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Mrs. Hanson was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Buffalo to Harry and Ruby Kershner. She grew up and attended schools in Buffalo. She married Andrew J. "Andy" Hanson on Nov. 6, 1933, in Hardin, Mont. They resided in Buffalo, where they owned and operated the Andy Hanson Sawmill for 32 years. Mrs. Hanson also was a store clerk for Coast to Coast in Buffalo. Mr. Hanson died in December 1977. Mrs. Hanson retired in 1980. She moved to Sheridan Manor a few months ago. She was a special friend of Dan Borgialli of Buffalo. She was a member of Rebekah's Lodge and Big Horn Baptist Church. An avid fisherman, she enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, four sisters, two brothers and one grandson. Survivors include a son, Ron of Buffalo, and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Senior Center Meals on Wheels program in care of the funeral home.

Patsy N. Rifenbery

Former Sheridan resident Patsy N. Rifenbery, 78, of Louisville, Tenn., died May 1, 2007, in Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tenn. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in the Maryville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be in Clearfield City (Utah) cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Smith Mortuary Co. of Maryville. Mrs. Rifenbery was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Highland Park PTO in Sheridan, Wyoming Association of Cosmetologists, and the Navy Widows Association in Sierra Vista, Ariz. She served as an auxiliary volunteer at Weber Memorial Hospital and the Life Care Center in Sierra Vista. She was an avid genealogist and historian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marble Rifenbery; a sister, Merle Crayne; and a brother, Edgar Morgan Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl R. Spencer of Louisville; a stepson, Charles Joseph Rifenbery of Georgia; two brothers, Donald Morgan of Wyoming and Robert Morgan of California; a sister, Phylis Davis of California; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Marvin O. Larsen

Marvin O. Larsen, 76, of Dayton died April 27, 2007, at his residence. At his request, no service is planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Pine County, Minn., to Oscar and Anna Louise (Steinmetz) Larsen. He grew up and attended schools in Pine County before entering the U.S. Army. He served in Germany and two combat tours in Korea. After the service, he was a self-employed truck driver and master mechanic. He traveled all over the United States until retiring to the Sheridan-Dayton area 20 years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, who died in Vietnam; and a granddaughter. Survivors include a son, Dennis of Aurora, Colo.; and two brothers, Jerry of Thompson Falls, Mont., and Larry of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Kathleen V. Williams

Kathleen V. Williams, 65, of Sheridan died April 28, 2007, according to her family. Memorial services will be announced later. She was born Feb. 2, 1942. After the death of her birth mother, she and her siblings were adopted by Rosie (Belus) and Melvin Pruett. She was a 1960 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married James Douglas on July 3, 1960. They divorced. She married Byron "Buck" Williams in 1976. He died in February 1998. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn; two sisters; and one brother. Survivors include a son, Stephen Douglas of Shepherd, Mont.; a daughter, Brenda Torrens of Sheridan; three stepchildren, Lisa, Jeff and Tony; her mother of Sheridan; and six grandchildren.

Kenneth Ronald Pederson Sr.

Funeral services for Kenneth Ronald Pederson Sr., 67, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church with Sherman Weberg officiating. Viewing will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Pederson died April 27, 2007. He was born May 26, 1939, in Arnegard, N.D., to Clifford and Pauline (Torstenson) Pederson. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard Army Reserve. He married Della Volk on June 30, 1962, in Fulda, Pierce County, N.D. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm, collecting antique tractors, carpentry, playing dominos and being with his family. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Allen, and a grandson. Survivors include his wife; five children, Deborah O'Dell, Nancy Grover and Pamela Hilling, all of Sheridan, and Loni O'Dell and Kenneth Pederson Jr., both of Gillette; his mother of Glendive, Mont.; five siblings, Helen Skogas of Rapid City, BeverlySawyer of Texas, Betty Martin of Oregon, Marilyn Woods of California and Harry Covell of Laramie; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Dale Ray Schoolcraft

BUFFALO - Former Buffalo resident Dale Ray Schoolcraft, 51, of North Dakota died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at the home of his brother in Casper following a battle with cancer. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Willow Grove cemetery with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visititation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Dale Schoolcraft Memorial Fund to help his family defray expenses.

Mark Colin Seeley

Mark Colin Seeley, 81, of Evansville died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at the home of his son. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Bustard Funeral Home of Casper. He was father of Pat Ashlock of Sheridan. He was born May 8, 1926, in Biwabik, Minn., to Fred and Francis (Neely) Seeley. He attended school through the eighth grade, then did iron work. He served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his German shepherd dogs Baron and Becca. He was a member of the Masons. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann, and a daughter, Linda. Other survivors include three sons, Steve and Scott, both of Evansville, and Mark of Mills; and another daughter, Margo of Rock Springs.

Anne Etta Matteson

Anne Etta Matteson, 80, of Buffalo died June 28, 2007, in Johnson County Health Care Center. She was sister of Ruth Searcy and Joyce Shoumaker, both of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Mrs. Matteson was born June 6, 1927, in Albany, Mo., to Clifford and Phoebe Search. She grew up and was educated in Missouri. She moved to Wyoming in 1944. She married Fred C. Rives on May 2, 1945, in Buffalo. They moved to Midwest in 1946, where Mr. Rives worked for Standard Oil Co. He died in 1965. She moved to Buffalo, where she married Verl Matteson on June 8, 1966. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters and one grandchild. Survivors include a son, Robert Rives of Battle Mountain, Nev.; two brothers, Joe and Jerry Searcy, both of Palisade, Colo.; one other sister, Wanda Wyantt of Denver; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Rehabilitation Enterprises of North Eastern Wyoming in Sheridan or Buffalo Senior Center, in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

Larry Sayer

Graveside services for Larry Sayer, 63, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Monday in Sheridan Municipal cemetery with Pastor Gordon Henderson officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Sayer died June 26, 2007, at his residence. He was born Nov. 2, 1943, in Sheridan to Charles and Marguerite Sayer. He married Stasia Petrovich here on Dec. 4, 1965. He enjoyed the mountains, fishing, hunting, woodworking, racing cars, boxing and being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lee Roy, and a brother, Gary. Survivors include his wife; two children, Leon Sayer and Tina Wilson; two brothers, Vernon of Eloy, Ariz., and Carl of Sheridan; two sisters, Goldie Steigelman and Rosie Curtis; and four grandchildren.

Roger H. Blake

Memorial services for Roger H. Blake, 69, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sheridan Sportsman's Gun Club with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Blake died June 24, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. He was born Feb. 4, 1938, in Ashland, Wis., to Hugh and Vivian Blake. He attended St. Agnes Grade School and graduated from De Padua High School in Ashland. He was a GMC maintenance man for 30 years, until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the American Trapshooting Association and a member of the Sheridan County Sportsman's Gun Club. He enjoyed trapshooting, hunting and fishing. He earned his ATA grand slam and was a member of the Wisconsin and Wyoming state trapshooting teams and an All-American in the sport. Survivors include his wife, Gayle; his mother of Milwaukee; two children, Kimberly Even and Kristine Blake, both of Michigan; two stepchildren, Dawn Borkholz of Wisconsin and Scott Kabasa of Idaho; three brothers, Gary of the Philippines, Richard of Michigan and Bob of Wisconsin; a sister, Andrea Kajfosz of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

Lena Loretta Ogg

Lena Loretta Ogg, 94, of Worland died June 27, 2007, in Worland Healthcare and Rehab Center. She was mother of the Rev. Thomas Ogg and Matthew J. Ogg, both of Sheridan. A Christian wake/rosary service will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Worland with the Most Rev. David L. Ricken, bishop of Wyoming, officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday with Thomas Ogg as principal celebrant and the priest of the Wyoming Diocese as concelebrant. Rite of Committal will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery in Worland. Arrangements are with Veile Mortuary of Worland. Mrs. Ogg was born Nov. 7, 1912, in Longmont, Colo., to Joseph Francis and Barbara Margaret (Gross) Salzman. The family moved to Worland when she was 5. She attended the Durkee School north of Worland and was a 1931 graduate of Washakie County High School. She received her teacher training from the University of Wyoming. She taught at the Deep Creek School, south of Ten Sleep, for one year and the Durkee School for five years. She married George Harper Ogg Jr. on June 8, 1937, in Basin. The couple farmed north of Worland for most of their lives. Mr. Ogg died Oct. 5, 1982. Mrs. Ogg enjoyed gardening, needlework, canning, traveling with her husband including to the Bahamas and Mexico and playing pinochle. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Leo, Nick, Joe, John and Pete; three sisters, Rose Lamb, Mary Dierks and Eva Ruby; and a grandson. Survivors include three other sons, Kenneth C. of Worland, Paul Joe of Longmont and William L. of Great Falls, Mont.; a sister, Anne Piel of Worland; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, P.O. Box 901, Worland, WY 82401-0901.
